2 Pilipinong doktor kasama sa mga nakatawid ng Rafah Crossing

  • last year

00:00 After waiting for several weeks,
00:02 the Rafah Border was allowed to cross
00:04 almost 400 foreign nationals
00:06 from Gaza to Egypt.
00:08 22 staff of the humanitarian organization
00:13 Doctors Without Borders were allowed to cross.
00:15 Two of them were Filipino doctors
00:18 who were introduced by Darwin de la Cruz
00:20 and Rejidor Esguerra.
00:21 It's good news that we've been able to get our two
00:24 Filipino colleagues out.
00:25 They were both medical coordinators
00:27 with our organization.
00:28 That's a very key role for us.
00:30 They're responsible for the way we implement
00:33 our essential life-saving medical care.
00:35 300 more staff of Doctors Without Borders
00:38 were left in Gaza.
00:39 And according to the group,
00:41 the volunteers who were crossing the war zone
00:43 were not joking.
00:45 They're doing okay.
00:45 It's been a very traumatic situation,
00:47 very tough for everybody within the team.
00:49 And continues to be, of course,
00:52 for all of our Palestinian colleagues.
00:53 I think that they're relieved to be able to get out,
00:58 but they're also very keen to go through the process
01:03 that we'll have waiting for them.
01:04 That's debriefings.
01:05 We're going to check on them physically,
01:07 make sure that they've got the support that they need,
01:09 and then essentially make sure that they can debrief.
01:12 From the Rafah border,
01:14 the two doctors headed to Arish,
01:16 a city in Egypt,
01:17 and then they'll be brought to Cairo
01:19 for their next mission or journey.
01:22 According to the DFA,
01:23 the organization is in charge of all the needs
01:26 of the two doctors.
01:27 They're not going home to the Philippines,
01:29 because that's how it is.
01:33 Doctors without borders,
01:35 they're moving around.
01:36 But they're in touch with their families.
01:39 They're in contact with their families.
01:40 The DFA explains that because thousands of foreign nationals
01:44 are going through the process of berification
01:45 who want to leave Gaza,
01:47 it's possible that they'll be allowed to enter
01:50 the Egyptian border by batch.
01:51 At present, only 115 Filipinos are waiting
01:54 to cross Egypt and go home to the Philippines.
01:57 Only 11 have yet to make a decision.
02:00 Before the Egyptians receive them at the border
02:06 for their visa processing,
02:10 they need permission from the Israeli authorities.
02:13 Approvals are being released little by little,
02:17 maybe 500 a day at most.
02:19 We're making the diplomatic representations.
02:22 My target today,
02:25 but if we can, as soon as possible,
02:28 maybe today, tomorrow, weekend, tomorrow evening.
02:31 Philippine Ambassador to Israel Junie Lailo
02:35 met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog
02:37 and expressed his hope that the Philippines
02:40 will allow our fellow Filipinos to cross Gaza.
02:44 It's just a call, a traditional call of an ambassador.
02:46 But of course, because this is happening,
02:48 we are going to mention the situation
02:52 for the welfare of our Filipino citizens in Gaza.
02:57 The DFA is also studying the possibility
03:00 of raising the alert level in Israel
03:02 to Alert Level 2.
03:04 This means that non-essential activities
03:06 and not sending new OFWs are prohibited.
