00:00:00 This is Desmond Johnson on the Believe in Carolina Panthers Podcast, here on the Believe
00:00:21 Podcast Network, the #1 podcast network for professionals.
00:00:25 I've been waiting 6 weeks, 7 weeks, I finally used this music.
00:00:32 Carolina Panthers, your Carolina Panthers are no longer winless.
00:00:48 1-6 on the season, 15-13 winners over the Houston Texans and their rookie quarterback
00:01:06 CJ Stroud.
00:01:07 I want to get everybody excited, it's Tuesday morning, it's Believe in Panthers, what else
00:01:13 would you expect?
00:01:14 Desmond Johnson, Skylar Callahan, Jonathan Stewart in the house.
00:01:18 Man, I'm so happy with this team right now.
00:01:22 Love Carolina!
00:01:23 It's going to help us feel a little better about ourselves.
00:01:27 15-13 winners on Sunday, at home, Hall of Honors, Julius Peppers, Moose Mohamed get
00:01:34 in, good day all around.
00:01:38 Just a good day, now granted some things could have went a little bit better, but we got
00:01:41 the dub, which is what we were looking for.
00:01:43 We'll go to the box score, we'll check that as well.
00:01:46 Panthers next game up, Panthers taking on the Colts this Sunday, hosting that one as
00:01:50 well.
00:01:51 We've got the Believe in Colts host coming in, around 11-15, we'll give us a preview
00:01:56 of that.
00:01:57 Of course we're going to check the box score on this one.
00:01:59 The trade deadline is today at 4 o'clock.
00:02:01 We've got a couple of guys on our "hit list", like guys that wouldn't mind if they do get
00:02:06 traded off and we pick a little something something up on the back end.
00:02:10 And Skylar actually has a list of guys most likely to be traded, so we'll talk a little
00:02:14 about that as well.
00:02:16 Then we're going to get into this offensive line.
00:02:18 They gave up six sacks on Sunday to a team that I think didn't have hardly any sacks
00:02:25 coming into the game.
00:02:27 We got to fix whatever's going on there.
00:02:30 Of course we're live, of course if you want to participate in the show you can.
00:02:34 Go to the YouTube channel over at youtube.com/@tobaccaroadsportsradio or on the Facebook watch page at the Tobacco
00:02:40 Road Sports Radio page.
00:02:42 Believe in Panthers Twitter, I believe you can go there as well.
00:02:44 And you can comment just like Panther Pickle C3.
00:02:46 "Stewart, we need a great lead block and fullback.
00:02:48 Maybe trade for all Ravens Patrick Ricard."
00:02:51 I don't even know who that is, but he sounds like a fullback.
00:02:54 Whoever you are.
00:02:55 Got a fullback name.
00:02:56 Patrick.
00:02:57 Patrick Ricard.
00:02:58 I'm happier than Huggy Bear at a happy hour.
00:03:03 Says Clay Wright.
00:03:04 Jamie Revis checking in as well.
00:03:05 What do you all think about eight, what?
00:03:07 Adrian Peterson wants to return.
00:03:09 How old is Adrian Peterson?
00:03:12 38.
00:03:13 He's 38 years old?
00:03:16 I bet he still looks great too.
00:03:20 Yeah.
00:03:21 Hershey Walker.
00:03:22 You know how Hershey Walker was running around in the '50s?
00:03:23 He still play?
00:03:24 I feel like he can, I definitely feel like if you want, if Adrian Peterson wanted to
00:03:30 suit up for a game behind an offensive line that had it, yeah.
00:03:39 But I'm not going to put Adrian Peterson behind an offensive line that's trying to figure
00:03:45 it out.
00:03:46 Us.
00:03:47 I want him to walk away from the game.
00:03:50 Yeah, right.
00:03:51 Enjoy life, Adrian Peterson.
00:03:52 Enjoy life, man.
00:03:53 Don't be worried about coming in 30.
00:03:54 If you want to go in, you know, who's the best offensive line in the league right now?
00:04:00 Eagles?
00:04:01 Yeah.
00:04:02 Yeah, if you want to go over there and run behind them, have at it.
00:04:07 Yeah, but if you want to go to like, I don't know if it's a good idea, AP.
00:04:15 I don't know.
00:04:16 But before we get to the pot score, a quick word from our sponsors over at Bet Online.

00:04:51 Bet Online where the game starts and where we normally start is the box score from the
00:04:54 previous game.
00:04:55 I was just telling Skylar backstage I didn't realize that James Harden got traded while
00:04:58 I was sleeping last night to the Clippers.
00:05:03 I thought he didn't want to play with Russell Westbrook.
00:05:05 Remember he's on that team?
00:05:06 I thought he was trying to get away from him and he's been traded back to the same squad
00:05:11 where Russell is like twice in the past like four years.
00:05:14 So I don't know what I don't even know how it's going to work with Paul George, James
00:05:17 Harden, Russell Westbrook, Kawhi Leonard.
00:05:20 That's almost the same player like times four.
00:05:22 So I don't know.
00:05:23 They all play the same.
00:05:25 So that's the NBA.
00:05:26 That's back in the house.
00:05:27 They got too many little guys.
00:05:28 Yeah, it's just I want old school Joel and beads.
00:05:33 I want like centers like back to the basket type basketball and that's not coming.
00:05:36 Are you a Clippers fan?
00:05:38 No, I'm Lakers all day.
00:05:40 Clippers are like the little brother.
00:05:41 They'll never Clippers as long as they exist.
00:05:44 You started you started to sound like you you had too much to say about these Clippers.
00:05:48 Yeah, I don't care for them.
00:05:52 They're in the same building.
00:05:53 They're like rentals like a film stadium.
00:05:56 The box score Texans Panthers Panthers win 1513 going to one and six in the season one
00:06:02 and two at home.
00:06:03 The Texans dropped the three and four and we start off with this whole CJ Stroud versus
00:06:07 Bryce Young thing because it felt like that's what we were hearing from everybody going
00:06:11 into the game that had doubts about Bryce Young and Bryce Young outplayed CJ Stroud.
00:06:17 Now granted, I didn't think CJ Stroud played a bad game, but it felt like the defense was
00:06:22 extra salty on Sunday, which I kind of predicted.
00:06:24 I thought they might be a little bit more up for this game because it was CJ Stroud
00:06:28 on the other side.
00:06:29 16 for 24 only threw for 140 yards 81.9 rating on the day QB are 72.
00:06:37 He had to we got two sacks on CJ Bryce 22 for 31 to 35 throwing down the field a little
00:06:44 bit longer with a touchdown.
00:06:45 No interceptions 103.6 rating but six sacks by the offensive line and let's just start
00:06:52 right there.
00:06:53 What do we need to what are we doing?
00:06:55 What do we need to do?
00:06:57 What can be fixed with the office?
00:06:59 Listen, I'm gonna tell you this.
00:07:01 We got the best quarterback in the league that can play under stress.
00:07:09 That's what we saw on Sunday.
00:07:12 We saw Bryce Young play a brilliant game and within himself, you know, I'm saying like
00:07:22 I was looking like if anybody looked at Jimmy G last night Raiders.
00:07:31 I literally sat there and watch this watch that game last night only because I was like,
00:07:37 man, I wonder if he's gonna escape the pocket.
00:07:40 Like is he gonna is he going to make something happen or is he's gonna sit up there and act
00:07:43 like he got the best line in the NFL right now?
00:07:50 Like at some point you gotta you gotta just you know, nut up man like and figure that
00:07:57 out because you just you're not helping your team when you supposed to manage the game
00:08:03 and part of management is understanding who's in front of you who's around you and how you
00:08:07 gonna get the ball out.
00:08:09 Bryce Young is figuring that out and he seems like a guy that that that leads, you know,
00:08:18 without pointing fingers and without accepting excuses.
00:08:22 No, I'm saying like, hey, we gotta find a way you find a way to win and yesterday or
00:08:27 a Sunday.
00:08:28 That was one of them games that you seen back in the day.
00:08:31 I'm cardiac cats.
00:08:32 When I found a way to win, you take that six minute drive, you know, you stay with it is
00:08:41 ugly again, two yards here, three yards there, dump it out to the running back.
00:08:45 He fight for the extra yards like feeling comes up with a great catch like, right?
00:08:52 Yeah, man.
00:08:53 I mean, you gotta have those dog verse dog like interactions throughout some courses
00:09:01 of the game and that's what we saw Carolina Panthers.
00:09:04 I'm glad you mentioned cardiac cats because Sunday was the first game this whole season
00:09:10 while the game was going on while I was like, we're gonna figure out a way to win this game.
00:09:13 Like it had that vibe to it, like even though we were down most of the game and it was never
00:09:18 out of pocket, but especially fourth quarter, we got to the fourth quarter.
00:09:21 I was like, we can win this game.
00:09:22 We're going to win this game.
00:09:23 I don't know how exactly they're going to do it because they have been able to run the
00:09:25 ball all day, but we're going to win this game.
00:09:27 And when they needed to do it and they got down the field, it made it happen.
00:09:32 Two things though with the offense.
00:09:34 First let's just start off with my guy here.
00:09:36 Well, he's not my guy, but he get quantum.
00:09:39 You may need to find a left tackle move.
00:09:41 Picky the left guard.
00:09:42 We could have did that when Brady Christian was still active and because he played left
00:09:46 tackle in college, he was, I think he was the highest rated left tackle coming out of
00:09:48 college and for whatever reason, Matt rule moved him to left guard.
00:09:51 I said his arms were too short or whatever that was a couple years ago, but he can play
00:09:56 both sides.
00:09:58 And now you guys can do you have a person, Skyler's or a person on the roster that can
00:10:04 play left tackle besides Icky.
00:10:06 That's healthy enough.
00:10:07 Yeah.
00:10:08 So we're kind of stuck.
00:10:10 And we can, and we can bag on that rule, which I mean, people can have, have the right to
00:10:15 do that.
00:10:16 But I mean, James Camp and played a factor into that too.
00:10:19 And they could have made that switch like you said before the season.
00:10:21 So obviously this staff still sees Brady is the same thing as a guard.
00:10:25 So, but I do think like when Icky came out of NC state, he had played a little bit of
00:10:30 garden college and a lot of people around the NFL actually projected him to be better
00:10:35 as a guard at this level than tackle.
00:10:37 And before you pop that, that comment up from the fan, I was actually going to mention that
00:10:42 because look, it doesn't matter if he's playing left tackle or left guard, you've got to find
00:10:48 a way in the future to put your best five out there in front of Bryce Young.
00:10:52 And if that's him moving to left guard and you finding another solution at left tackle,
00:10:56 so be it.
00:10:57 Who cares where you drafted him?
00:10:58 If he's one of the best five guys out there, just find a way to get him in the best position.
00:11:02 Yeah.
00:11:03 Yeah.
00:11:04 You got to put the best, you got to get your players in the best position to win.
00:11:07 And that's what coaching is all about.
00:11:09 Being able to dissect your players, understand the strengths and weaknesses and put them
00:11:16 in the best position to win.
00:11:18 He had a bad day on Sunday.
00:11:22 He's been struggling, man.
00:11:25 I mean, sophomore slumps are a real thing.
00:11:30 You can add that into the mix that he's got the pressure of protecting the number one
00:11:36 quarterback drafted.
00:11:39 There's a lot that can go into it, but no excuse.
00:11:42 And I'm pretty sure he's responding the best that he can.
00:11:48 You know what I'm saying?
00:11:50 He doesn't strike me as a guy that doesn't care.
00:11:53 It's tough to play the offensive line positions, let alone left tackle.
00:11:58 The blind side.
00:11:59 In the NFL.
00:12:00 So, again, some dogs out there, right?
00:12:05 So hopefully the coaching staff and Icky, just keep at it, man.
00:12:13 Keep working.
00:12:14 We've got to find a way to make things happen up front.
00:12:18 Because right now, as you can see, we can win games.
00:12:22 And one thing to keep in mind, too, last year when he started to play good, that's when
00:12:27 they went to that downhill running attack where they were just running the ball 40 times
00:12:30 a game.
00:12:31 He struggled in the early parts of that season when they were that spread offense.
00:12:35 And remember, we were like, what are you doing?
00:12:37 You have Christian McCaffrey, you have Deontay Foreman, you have Chuba Hubbard, and you're
00:12:40 not running the ball.
00:12:42 And the offense struggled.
00:12:44 He struggled.
00:12:45 They went to that new identity with Steve Wilkes and Ben McAdoo, and he started to play
00:12:49 better.
00:12:50 So it's almost like he doesn't necessarily fit in a true spread offense at left tackle.
00:12:56 He may do as well as a downhill attack.
00:12:58 That's exactly what it feels like.
00:12:59 It felt like he got drafted for one thing, but now it's like the rug's been pulled out
00:13:02 from underneath him, and he's being asked to do things that he wasn't drafted for.
00:13:06 But he's got the talent.
00:13:07 Yeah, new coaching staff, new scheme, for sure.
00:13:11 The other one that we need to discuss on offense is the curious case of running back Miles
00:13:15 Sanders.
00:13:16 Miles Sanders.
00:13:17 This is a Gerts 2 question.
00:13:18 What do you do?
00:13:19 What do you do?
00:13:20 Do you trade off the offensive line?
00:13:21 And if you do, who's going to take him?
00:13:29 Because we were the only ones to give him that contract in the first place.
00:13:31 We kind of outbid ourselves to give him what we gave him.
00:13:34 It was four years, $25 million, something like that.
00:13:36 But he's a good running back.
00:13:39 I don't want to start us off saying he's a horrible running back or something like that.
00:13:42 He's a good running back.
00:13:43 He got that money for a reason.
00:13:44 I just don't think he fits in what we're trying to do.
00:13:46 I think there's something called, we talk about this every week.
00:13:56 When you have our situation, you're supposed to hit the reset button and you make do with
00:14:01 what you got.
00:14:03 Because the truth of the matter is that you have a coaching staff that has their scheme
00:14:09 and has their beliefs in how they run things, right?
00:14:11 Offense, defense, special teams.
00:14:16 And then you're born into leadership roles with players that might not necessarily be
00:14:27 the guys that fit your criteria.
00:14:29 You know what I'm saying?
00:14:31 So you look at the offensive line like we just discussed.
00:14:36 The depth there for the things that they want to do.
00:14:39 Run and zone schemes.
00:14:42 You look at the defensive side of the ball.
00:14:44 They played lights out.
00:14:45 It sounds like they're starting to click.
00:14:47 It sounds like they're starting to understand what's being asked of them in a 3-4 defense.
00:14:55 You talk about OC changes.
00:14:57 Not changes in the sense of guys getting fired or whatever, but from the head coach to now
00:15:05 the true OC call on the plays.
00:15:08 So there's just a lot of elements when it comes to everyone's expectations from these
00:15:15 players and why they've been brought here.
00:15:18 You can say the same thing about the tight end.
00:15:23 Yeah.
00:15:24 Yeah.
00:15:25 And so going back to Sanders, he's not a bad running back.
00:15:33 It's not like he's out there just willy-nilly like, "Oh man, I'm just not talented anymore."
00:15:37 No, this guy, if you've seen him play for the Philadelphia Eagles, you've seen the things
00:15:43 that he can do, especially when it comes to getting him in space.
00:15:47 Right?
00:15:48 Now, let me ask you guys a question.
00:15:51 Has there been a lot of space?
00:15:53 No.
00:15:54 No.
00:15:55 Okay.
00:15:56 Okay.
00:15:57 So if there's no space for him to do what he has been brought here to do, then we can't
00:16:04 go back and forth with this whole thing of Miles Sanders this, Miles...
00:16:08 No, Miles Sanders is still the standard as far as the type of running back that you want
00:16:13 in the backfield.
00:16:14 But so is Chuba Hubbard, right?
00:16:17 Chuba Hubbard and Miles Sanders, you can see the complete difference in how they run.
00:16:24 They both can do similar things, catch the ball in the backfield, break tackles.
00:16:30 But Chuba Hubbard, he tick a little different.
00:16:34 The boy hit the hole, he running hard, and it's almost like he runs with a chip on his
00:16:42 shoulder.
00:16:43 And he's got better catching out of the backfield too, because that was the-
00:16:45 Catching out of the backfield?
00:16:46 Yeah, absolutely.
00:16:47 I mean, I think the first year, everybody was saying he was struggling out of the backfield.
00:16:54 But the way I see it now is just, for the season that the Panthers are in right now,
00:17:00 with depth issues and all, Chuba Hubbard is the answer.
00:17:05 And then as things progress, you'll start seeing a mixture of both.
00:17:11 What I would like to see is Raheem Blackshear.
00:17:15 I've been saying it all along.
00:17:17 He had a good day too.
00:17:19 He don't got to play running back.
00:17:21 Put him at slot.
00:17:22 Do something.
00:17:23 Make him be Chanel.
00:17:27 Have him in motion, doing all kinds of stuff.
00:17:31 Because the way he runs the ball, he's got a little dog in him.
00:17:35 I don't know what type of dog you want to call it, but it's a dog.
00:17:38 Barking.
00:17:39 And so we need guys like that on offense that can really ignite things and get things going.
00:17:45 And if you look at Chuba's numbers from Sunday, it's not good either.
00:17:50 So it's not like it's one guy clearly dominating.
00:17:55 Chuba's played well, but the run game as a whole, it can't get going without those big
00:17:59 guys up front doing something.
00:18:00 But I do want to point out though, because I know a lot of people are probably making
00:18:04 it out to be like, "Oh my God, it's such a bad, bad play by Chuba."
00:18:09 When he got trucked in pass protection and Bryce rolled out and hit Thielen downfield,
00:18:17 it looks bad.
00:18:18 Don't get me wrong.
00:18:19 He got creamed.
00:18:20 Yeah, he got creamed.
00:18:21 But the difference is in years past with Chuba, that guy would have ran right through him
00:18:26 and stayed on his feet and got to the quarterback.
00:18:30 What Chuba did there was if he was going down, he was bringing the defender down with him.
00:18:35 That's a huge difference.
00:18:36 If you're going to get creamed, you might as well let the guy come with you.
00:18:38 And it bought Bryce enough time to get that ball down the field.
00:18:42 I will say, one of the things I was looking at in this game was, would there be different
00:18:46 types of plays being called than what we're used to?
00:18:48 And I didn't catch that vibe at all.
00:18:50 Sorry, they're doing some kind of street cleaning or something outside right now.
00:18:55 I will say that six-minute drive, it seemed very focused.
00:19:04 Yes.
00:19:09 I think for everybody else, we were probably like, "Man, hurry up and get rid of the ball.
00:19:14 Why we running that?
00:19:15 Why we running that again?
00:19:16 We need to get downfield."
00:19:17 They had a plan and they stuck with it.
00:19:21 And so I think kudos to the OC for just really understanding what was at stake and what he
00:19:27 had in his pocket and what he knew that he was going to be able to deliver with Bryce
00:19:32 Hennigan.
00:19:33 I think he knew that their best way to win that game is if they did what they did, just
00:19:38 take up all the clock.
00:19:39 Because if they gave the ball back to Houston, all they would need is a field goal.
00:19:44 Yeah.
00:19:45 To keep the kids in the game.
00:19:46 Yeah.
00:19:47 I did notice there was a little bit more pre-snap movement than what we've been seeing,
00:19:52 which is what we've been asking for.
00:19:53 Just give us a little more window dressing so that we have an idea of what's going on.
00:19:57 But the base plays and stuff, pretty much what they've been running all year.
00:20:00 We haven't really had a problem with the playbook.
00:20:02 It was more along the lines of execution and where is Bryce going with the ball.
00:20:06 It felt like Bryce had more leniency to go downfield with it if he felt comfortable with
00:20:11 it.
00:20:12 There was a couple times the feeling.
00:20:13 I think it was that 40-yard pass to Mingo that broke.
00:20:17 He had some spots where he hadn't thrown it that far before and he was doing it there.
00:20:21 I don't think that's necessarily because Thomas Brown was the offensive play caller.
00:20:23 I just think that it felt like they had more time to really process what they were doing.
00:20:28 I did hear Frank Wright, somebody asked him the question in the postgame about, "Did you
00:20:32 feel like you had more time to devote to the other parts of the team?"
00:20:35 And things like that.
00:20:36 He was like, "Yeah, he did feel like he had more time for time management and to find
00:20:40 out what the defense is up to and special teams and that kind of stuff."
00:20:43 So it feels like they're kind of figuring out everybody's roles and what they're supposed
00:20:47 to do.
00:20:48 And I can understand Frank Wright not wanting to give up play calling because that's what
00:20:51 he does.
00:20:52 He's won a Super Bowl doing it.
00:20:53 I can understand him being reluctant to hand over the playbook for something like this,
00:20:59 but then I also understand realizing that maybe you're doing too much.
00:21:04 Let me back off a bit.
00:21:06 Being a man and being able to say, "You know what?
00:21:09 This ain't working.
00:21:10 Let's fix this.
00:21:11 I'm part of the problem.
00:21:12 Let's do this.
00:21:13 Let's do that."
00:21:14 And try to find a solution that feels like what they've been doing over the past couple
00:21:15 of weeks and you get a win to show for it.
00:21:17 And a part of the schedule where, honestly, guys, we were looking at it even when we did
00:21:21 our predictions back in the preseason.
00:21:24 This was the part of the schedule where we felt like Carolina could really start to rattle
00:21:27 some wins together.
00:21:28 And it's actually gotten a little better because we're not going to see Anthony Richardson
00:21:31 on Sunday.
00:21:32 He's out for the season.
00:21:33 And I was more worried about him than Gardner Minshew.
00:21:35 No offense to Gardner Minshew, but you're not Anthony Richardson, man.
00:21:38 He's a little bit different to guard.
00:21:41 And then the next week is Chicago.
00:21:42 I don't know if Justin Fields is playing or not.
00:21:44 Doesn't he have a hurt thumb or something like that?
00:21:47 So he might not be playing either.
00:21:49 So this was the little ... And then you got down.
00:21:51 They're going to have to stop Deontay Foreman, though.
00:21:54 If they put him on the field, Chicago is weird about playing him for some reason.
00:21:58 That's a dude I wish they would trade to bring back because that would solve a lot of problems
00:22:02 in the backfield here.
00:22:03 We need that big power back.
00:22:04 If you're not going to use him, trade him back.
00:22:06 Just trade him to us.
00:22:08 Desmond, Desmond, we need space.
00:22:10 We need space.
00:22:12 These offensive linemen don't know how to help.
00:22:14 Okay, okay.
00:22:15 So don't bring anyone here.
00:22:16 Don't let them come by here.
00:22:17 This is actually ... We were talking about this before.
00:22:23 Let's just let our guys figure it out because they've been here.
00:22:26 They've been figuring out how to run behind the offensive line.
00:22:28 The offensive line is going to get better.
00:22:30 So let's just hang off the running backs, man.
00:22:34 Hang off them, man.
00:22:35 They're doing their thing.
00:22:36 We had a Terrence Marshall sighting, caught a pass in this game.
00:22:39 I actually thought ... I didn't think they would suit him up.
00:22:42 He was asking for a trade, but they got him out there playing.
00:22:44 It's the weirdest situation with him.
00:22:45 The trade deadline's today at four.
00:22:47 We'll see if anybody comes knocking for that.
00:22:51 But Miles Sanders and Hayden Hurst are the two names that first come to mind where I'm
00:22:56 like, "Are they going to be on this roster tomorrow?"
00:22:58 I just don't know who would bite on Sanders.
00:23:00 With Hurst, that's actually something you could probably flip and get a third or a fourth
00:23:05 out of.
00:23:06 He's a pretty dependable young tight end.
00:23:07 We just can't figure out what to do with him.
00:23:09 And Tommy Trimble is advanced.
00:23:10 He's gotten better from last year.
00:23:12 He's taken some of his snaps.
00:23:14 He's been out of his space.
00:23:16 I think if they had known that Trimble was going to take this leap, that they probably
00:23:20 wouldn't have signed Hurst.
00:23:21 They would have just let Trimble be the number one tight end and roll that way and save the
00:23:24 money.
00:23:25 But you got a couple of dudes to watch later on today to see what happens.
00:23:29 I will say this, though, and Frank Wright and Bryce Young did great jobs not throwing
00:23:36 Miles Sanders under the bus as much as they could.
00:23:38 That fourth and two on that drive in the fourth quarter where Bryce is thrown to Thielen and
00:23:44 Sanders ran the wrong route and almost ran in the way of the route, that would have...
00:23:49 Can you imagine if Young throws that pass, it looks perfect.
00:23:56 Miles Sanders is running the wrong route.
00:23:57 It hits him in the back or something.
00:24:00 The drive is over.
00:24:01 The game is over.
00:24:02 Houston takes it over on downs.
00:24:04 You got to go in that post game and explain what the hell just happened.
00:24:08 Why is Miles Sanders running randomly across this route?
00:24:11 It's like because he ran the wrong route.
00:24:12 Twitter X or whatever, X Twitter.
00:24:14 I'm never calling it.
00:24:15 I'm never calling it.
00:24:16 I'm calling it Twitter forever until it dies.
00:24:19 I'm never calling it X.
00:24:22 Get you Elon Musk.
00:24:23 I ain't doing it.
00:24:24 You can't buy me.
00:24:25 I'm calling it Twitter.
00:24:26 Man, shout out to the kicker, Eddie.
00:24:27 Eddie Pinero.
00:24:28 Pinero.
00:24:29 Eddie Money.
00:24:30 Every time I see Pinero, I think of Pinero bread.
00:24:35 I don't know why.
00:24:37 But man, look, Pinero bread.
00:24:40 Y'all need to go ahead and give this man a deal.
00:24:43 Sign him up, man.
00:24:44 Sign up Eddie Pinero for a Pinero bread deal.
00:24:47 Corporate, if y'all hear this message, reach out to his agent or me.
00:24:51 Y'all need to sign that deal because my man's coming in clutch.
00:24:55 Hold on.
00:24:56 My man's coming in clutch.
00:24:57 I'm going to sign you up.
00:24:58 I'm going to sign you up.
00:24:59 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:00 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:01 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:02 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:03 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:04 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:05 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:06 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:07 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:08 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:09 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:10 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:11 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:12 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:13 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:14 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:15 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:16 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:17 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:18 I'm going to sign you up.
00:25:20 I don't think J.A. Jaya is playing anymore.
00:25:22 I was about to say J.A. Jaya.
00:25:24 Yeah.
00:25:25 Boy, that's a long time ago.
00:25:27 You're ruining a-- come on.
00:25:29 That's true.
00:25:30 What the hell did J.A. Jaya go through?
00:25:33 Boise.
00:25:34 Boise, that's it?
00:25:35 Man, that's like five years ago, six years ago.
00:25:38 And he did go for the Dolphins and Eagles.
00:25:40 I'm going to see what's happening.
00:25:41 He did go for the Dolphins and Eagles,
00:25:43 but that was a minute ago.
00:25:44 Panther Pickle, you trying to throw us a pickle,
00:25:46 ain't you?
00:25:47 Yeah.
00:25:48 Because-- see, that's why I don't trust the comments
00:25:51 sometimes when it comes to trade delende,
00:25:53 because people be throwing stuff in here,
00:25:54 and I don't know for sure if it's right to click it.
00:25:57 But I don't see--
00:25:59 I think he's out of the league.
00:26:00 I'm pretty sure he's out of the league.
00:26:02 Yeah, so-- all right.
00:26:03 Thanks, Panther Pickle.
00:26:07 I got ESPN up in case something pops off while we're still
00:26:09 on the air this morning.
00:26:10 And again, stick around 1115, the Believe in Colts host,
00:26:13 Lawrence and Donald will be in to preview with us,
00:26:16 Panthers versus Colts, for this upcoming Sunday.
00:26:18 He's saying that's what NRAP reports saying.
00:26:21 But-- I'll put up Twitter also, so we'll keep an eye on that.
00:26:29 Oh, wait, somebody's commencing a--
00:26:30 Pickle, that trade happened in 2017.
00:26:34 That's what I'm saying.
00:26:35 Yeah.
00:26:36 That's what bad news is.
00:26:37 It's all right, buddy.
00:26:38 It's OK.
00:26:39 There was a tweet about Frank Wright's last deadline move
00:26:41 with the Eagles.
00:26:42 So that was something that Frank Wright had something
00:26:44 to do with when he was back in the Eagles 17.
00:26:45 We get it together.
00:26:46 We figured it out.
00:26:48 So of course, that's later on today.
00:26:51 I was thinking about a couple of weeks
00:26:53 ago when we were trying to figure out who's
00:26:55 the best team in the NFL, who's the worst team in the NFL.
00:26:57 Doesn't it feel like that's flipped completely on its head
00:26:59 since we had that conversation?
00:27:00 That was like two weeks ago, three weeks ago?
00:27:02 I don't know, but y'all remember us
00:27:04 talking about the Seattle Seahawks making it
00:27:07 to the Super Bowl?
00:27:08 We did.
00:27:09 Well, I think we had them in the championship.
00:27:12 And I think we kind of talked ourselves into it.
00:27:16 Yeah, I think we--
00:27:17 The Seahawks right now, they flying right now.
00:27:22 They really are.
00:27:23 I think they're leading the West.
00:27:24 They're 5-2.
00:27:26 I mean, you look at the Eagles, man.
00:27:28 The Eagles are the best team in the league.
00:27:31 Like, experience, their offensive lines is just amazing.
00:27:35 Like, you got Julio Jones catching touchdowns now.
00:27:40 How in the world-- I saw that too.
00:27:42 I was like, why is Julio Jones on the Philadelphia Eagles?
00:27:45 Because he's our robot.
00:27:50 And then you got Brown just out here.
00:27:56 AJ Brown just really is making guys look like kids,
00:28:02 like little bit of kids.
00:28:04 You would think the Raiders would trade Devontae to us
00:28:09 for a half-eaten Bojangles dinner box.
00:28:11 I think they value him a little bit more than that.
00:28:13 We were asking off the air, would you trade--
00:28:15 Off the air, would you trade--
00:28:16 Devontae for a dinner box?
00:28:17 Would you trade Brian Burns for Devontae Adams?
00:28:19 And that was the question we were talking about before we came in.
00:28:21 Yeah, we talked about it earlier.
00:28:23 But I have to retract.
00:28:24 I have to retract.
00:28:25 I was going to say, because Stu was kind of like, yep.
00:28:27 I was talking crazy earlier.
00:28:29 I was a little sleepy.
00:28:32 I mean, Burns is 24.
00:28:34 I will say this, though.
00:28:36 Whatever the GM Scott Fitty thought was necessary to bring Devontae Adams in,
00:28:46 I wouldn't be mad at it.
00:28:48 But I would have some type of way--
00:28:51 I would feel some type of way if they tried to put Brian Burns
00:28:55 in that discussion, though.
00:28:57 Especially after everything they'd said, like the past year.
00:29:00 He's not--
00:29:01 When's our next first-round draft pick?
00:29:04 2025.
00:29:06 So not this year, but next year.
00:29:07 Or not next season, but the season after.
00:29:09 I'll give up the next two free NFL draft picks we got.
00:29:15 For Devontae?
00:29:16 For Devontae, yeah.
00:29:18 You'd give up a 25 and a 26?
00:29:20 And I'll tell you why, because we got a lot of money in the bag coming up here shortly.
00:29:26 And I feel like first-rounders, it's hit or miss.
00:29:32 It's not going to make or break you at this point.
00:29:35 I think now, in this day and age in the league, you're going to go after your guys
00:29:43 in free agency.
00:29:45 And so, I mean, if you build a solid team, guys are going to want to play here.
00:29:50 You feel me?
00:29:51 Right. Yeah.
00:29:52 And so free agency, man, if you look around the league,
00:29:55 I mean, besides the Detroit Lions, the Detroit Lions,
00:29:59 they've been balling on NFL draft picks.
00:30:02 I mean, last night, they had four of their draft picks out there balling.
00:30:09 Gibbs out there balling, running all over the place.
00:30:12 We didn't even see Gibbs on the play that long.
00:30:15 I think he was hurt.
00:30:16 Yeah, that was good.
00:30:18 It's not good that he was hurt, but good we didn't see him.
00:30:21 Yeah.
00:30:22 He was out there making people look crazy last night.
00:30:24 Detroit 6-2.
00:30:26 I don't think they're that far off from Philly, to be honest.
00:30:28 Yeah, we already talked about this.
00:30:32 If they see each other, Philly is going to be like, "Hey, look, little brother.
00:30:36 I told you to sit down."
00:30:38 You got to wait your turn.
00:30:39 Wait your turn.
00:30:41 You kind of say the same about Seattle, too, but I don't know.
00:30:44 The 49ers.
00:30:45 Pete Carroll has been there, though.
00:30:47 You know what's funny?
00:30:49 And actually, I didn't even think with everything that happened over Sunday
00:30:53 and us getting the win or whatever,
00:30:55 I didn't think I was going to have any reason to be mad about anything.
00:30:58 I'm going to tell you why we mad, son.
00:30:59 I'm going to tell you why we mad, son.
00:31:00 What happened to all of the Steve Wilkes fans that have been going on and on
00:31:05 through this season that Steve Wilkes should have been the head coach
00:31:08 of the Carolina Panthers, they have disappeared over the past three weeks,
00:31:11 and they've done so because of the 49ers' defense.
00:31:13 The 49ers' defense has fallen off a cliff,
00:31:15 and there's zero reason for it to happen when you look at who they have
00:31:19 on defense.
00:31:20 The only thing that has changed is Steve Wilkes is the defensive coordinator
00:31:23 of the San Francisco 49ers,
00:31:25 and it feels like he's starting to feel the heat a little bit.
00:31:27 He's just like, "Yeah, I get it.
00:31:29 I know we're not doing what we normally do.
00:31:31 We'll get it fixed."
00:31:32 The 49ers are 5-3, and they've lost three straight.
00:31:37 And this was a team we were looking at as the best in the game a month ago,
00:31:41 and they've just kind of--I don't know.
00:31:43 Brock Purdy's kind of coming back to earth.
00:31:45 I'm going to tell you the problem is Brock Purdy.
00:31:49 He's not what?
00:31:50 I'm not talking down about this guy because I think he's a really good teammate,
00:31:57 solid quarterback, smart.
00:32:01 But I think we're starting to see the difference between elite
00:32:09 and a good football player.
00:32:11 Yep.
00:32:12 Right?
00:32:13 And so especially at this level in time, like it's a quarterback-driven league.
00:32:18 Like we're seeing him not being able to take over games.
00:32:25 Like Christian McCaffrey, shout-out to him, MVP.
00:32:29 He MVP candidate.
00:32:30 Without him--
00:32:31 I was going to ask you all who your MVP candidates are.
00:32:33 Without Christian McCaffrey, the 49ers are poo-poo.
00:32:38 No offense, but they just not going to be that good.
00:32:42 Word?
00:32:43 Word?
00:32:44 Really?
00:32:45 Especially if Debo--Debo Samuels hurt.
00:32:50 Yeah.
00:32:51 You definitely--
00:32:52 You kind of need them both.
00:32:53 --willing and dealing.
00:32:54 You kind of need Debo and CMC out there to make this thing go the way it was going.
00:32:58 But if you had a solid, solid quarterback that was out there really like,
00:33:04 "Okay, let me take the game over," he's making everybody else better around him.
00:33:10 Yeah.
00:33:11 Okay?
00:33:12 He's making everybody else better around him.
00:33:15 And--
00:33:16 What is he like 17 games in a row?
00:33:18 And a slot player.
00:33:20 And an offensive lineman.
00:33:21 He's doing it all.
00:33:22 What did you say?
00:33:23 Is there any like at 17 games in a row with a touchdown or something like that?
00:33:26 It's like some record.
00:33:27 Yeah, man.
00:33:28 Yeah, he's a killer, man.
00:33:29 Listen, that man is out here like willing and dealing.
00:33:33 And some of you all wanted to trade CMC.
00:33:35 He's injury-prone.
00:33:36 He's too expensive.
00:33:37 Blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:33:38 Yeah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:33:39 Now look at you.
00:33:40 I'm really happy that he's out there.
00:33:41 I'm happy that he's out there for the Niners, though, because he out there in the Sunshine
00:33:45 State with all that good marketing opportunities over there by his old college.
00:33:50 Wait, that's not--
00:33:51 Well, Sunshine State's Florida.
00:33:52 That's not California.
00:33:53 I know what you mean.
00:33:54 Nah, man.
00:33:55 You know what I meant.
00:33:56 I knew what you were going to say.
00:33:57 You know what I meant when I said Sunshine.
00:33:58 I knew what you meant.
00:33:59 Sunshine in the state of California.
00:34:02 There it is.
00:34:03 There it is.
00:34:04 The golden-- what?
00:34:05 The golden-- I don't even know what that's called.
00:34:06 The Golden Gate Bridge state.
00:34:08 But no, I'm happy for him.
00:34:10 Even though, again, it feels like the 49ers are kind of like doing this a little bit because
00:34:14 of the Brock Purdy situation.
00:34:15 They traded off--
00:34:16 But maybe Debo Samuels comes back and Brock Purdy is Purdy.
00:34:22 Maybe.
00:34:23 Right?
00:34:24 Maybe that's the missing element.
00:34:25 Maybe that's the missing element.
00:34:26 Who in the AFC?
00:34:27 Because to me, I'm looking at Jacksonville.
00:34:29 Who was another team in the preseason when we were doing our picks we kind of looked
00:34:32 at as a team that could move up?
00:34:34 They've won five straight.
00:34:35 They're six and two.
00:34:36 A sneaky one that I think no one pays attention to, even myself.
00:34:40 Baltimore is kind of starting to get going here.
00:34:43 Baltimore looking real nice.
00:34:44 They've won three straight, six and two, leading the AFC North.
00:34:49 Pittsburgh's got some issues on offense still.
00:34:53 So I don't know how long Tomlin will win.
00:34:56 I think what they need to do-- who's the running back?
00:34:59 What's the name?
00:35:01 Najee Harris.
00:35:03 Oh, for the Steelers?
00:35:05 What did you say?
00:35:06 For the Steelers.
00:35:07 Harris.
00:35:08 Yeah, Harris.
00:35:09 Yeah, they need to figure that situation out.
00:35:14 That's a situation where you need to give it to the guy that's the second string.
00:35:18 I don't know his name.
00:35:19 Oh, Jalen Warren.
00:35:20 Jalen Warren, yeah.
00:35:21 Yeah, the way he's running the ball-- I saw one game a couple weeks ago.
00:35:25 I was like, "Oh, that's a complete-- way, way different running back than what I've
00:35:31 just seen in Harris."
00:35:33 But don't count Steelers out, though, because the Steelers can be that team in December.
00:35:39 That's an interesting division because all of them are above 500 right now.
00:35:42 Keeping out of Cincinnati, they do this every year.
00:35:44 They've won three straight.
00:35:45 They're four and three.
00:35:46 They always start out slow, it feels like, and then they pick up as the season goes.
00:35:50 Joe Burrow is Joe Burrow.
00:35:51 He's back.
00:35:52 Yeah, Joe Burrow looked real good.
00:35:54 Yeah, keep an eye on them.
00:35:55 And Miami.
00:35:56 He's running the ball and stuff.
00:35:57 And then Miami.
00:35:59 I don't believe in Miami anymore.
00:36:02 No?
00:36:03 What changed?
00:36:04 Do you believe?
00:36:05 Because, I mean--
00:36:06 I just-- I don't have to believe in them, so I just--
00:36:07 That's your problem.
00:36:08 I don't believe in them.
00:36:09 I don't believe in them, and that's it.
00:36:10 I just don't care.
00:36:11 It might just be all offense.
00:36:12 It's all--
00:36:13 It's all offense.
00:36:14 You win these games with defense.
00:36:15 Yo, that's another one.
00:36:16 That's another one for MVP.
00:36:17 You talking about CMC?

00:43:58 and you know when you're playing zones.
00:44:00 So I'm not really fond of the man coverage in the current situation that the Colts find
00:44:06 themselves in the past defense.
00:44:08 Lawrence Owen and Donald Thomas joining us here.
00:44:10 Believe in Colts host here previewing Colts versus Panthers 1 p.m. kickoff.
00:44:15 I believe it's on Fox this Sunday.
00:44:18 One question from the gallery and guys, we got limited time but fans if you have questions
00:44:22 you want to give Donald and Lawrence while we're on live, put them in the comment section
00:44:26 here.
00:44:27 Willie Smith asked.
00:44:28 I think it's a great question.
00:44:29 Colts fans.
00:44:30 What are your views on Frank Wright, your former coach?
00:44:34 Go ahead, man.
00:44:36 So I think Frank Wright is a good coach.
00:44:39 Personally, I think that he just has to be in the right situation.
00:44:42 Fortunately, you know, he really wasn't given a chance when he was here in Indianapolis
00:44:47 with you know, the quarterback carousel that he was, you know, he really didn't have a
00:44:51 lot of control over, you know, who was who they were signing.
00:44:55 You know, the Carson wins deal, we can talk about it.
00:44:57 But at the end of the day, I think Frank, he does a good job of grasping the locker
00:45:02 room from from what I heard from the guys that play for him.
00:45:07 You know, he was putting, he's been putting another tough situation go down to Carolina
00:45:10 and having a rookie quarterback and trying to make that thing work.
00:45:13 So you know, overall, I think he's done a decent job at coaching his record doesn't
00:45:18 reflect it.
00:45:20 But as you can see, you know, you guys grabbing a win last week, he keeps guys motivated,
00:45:25 he's got still one to fight, you know, still being early in the season.
00:45:28 He's got to give him a chance.
00:45:29 I just think he hasn't gotten a fair shake really, you know, to get a get a competitive
00:45:34 team that's going to compete week in and week out.
00:45:37 Guys, I'll let you guys open up any questions for the
00:45:40 I'll go.
00:45:43 I'll kind of go off that first before we get into my other question, because that one just
00:45:46 kind of came up.
00:45:48 So in terms of the Colts fan base, where were they with Frank?
00:45:51 Right?
00:45:52 Were they done with him?
00:45:53 Were they ready to move on?
00:45:54 Or did they really want him to stick around and be the guy?
00:45:57 Yeah, they for the most part, I think, especially about mid midway through the season, there
00:46:05 was a lot of questions on why people were getting terminated.
00:46:09 That you know, had no real impact on the game, right?
00:46:13 Like the offensive coordinator was gone.
00:46:15 And we're like, wait a minute now, Frank Reich is the one making the play calls here.
00:46:19 You know, he's, he's the one doing all the offense.
00:46:22 Why?
00:46:23 What's going on here?
00:46:26 And that that was a that sat wrong with the Colts fan base.
00:46:31 They didn't feel like there was accountability with Frank Reich.
00:46:36 And great, you know, players coach guy make players run through a brick wall for you,
00:46:42 you know, but when there was no accountability on that, on the flip side of it, then Colts
00:46:48 fans was having a bit of an issue with Frank in that in that situation.
00:46:53 But yeah, some of them thought the way Donald feels, you know, didn't have a fair shake.
00:47:02 And wanted to get him a rookie to work with, you know, for a couple years and see how he
00:47:08 how he develops because that's what's supposed to be his forte.
00:47:12 And he never never got that never got a consistent quarterback.
00:47:16 And they felt like, you know, he probably should have had a little bit more time.
00:47:21 And the other thing I wanted to ask you guys, I asked a similar question to the Texas guys
00:47:25 last week, but you guys are in a little different situation.
00:47:28 They could have had Bryce or CJ.
00:47:30 You guys probably knew you were going to either take Anthony Richardson or maybe a shot in
00:47:35 the dark on Will Levis that early.
00:47:38 Did you feel like Anthony Richardson was the guy from the start that you guys wanted the
00:47:43 Colts fans wanted the Colts wanted themselves?
00:47:45 What did you think about that whole draft process and the quarterback situation there?
00:47:50 Number four.
00:47:51 I'll let Donald run.
00:47:52 Well, I personally didn't think Anthony Richardson was going to end up in Indianapolis.
00:47:56 If it was up to me, you know, it would have been Straub.
00:48:01 I just think he had to, in my personal opinion, I think he had the best college career.
00:48:06 When you look at it from a whole like Bryce Young, you can hide behind Alabama in the
00:48:10 system and they just roll over teams in college.
00:48:14 But I just thought overall, but I knew that those two were going to be gone.
00:48:20 And so, you know, everybody was saying Will was going to slip to the late first round.
00:48:26 And I just feel like Anthony Richardson got drafted off of what he did at the combat in
00:48:31 his private workouts.
00:48:33 It wasn't a body of work from Florida because, you know, I know, which is weird is a lot
00:48:38 of Florida alumni live up here in Indy and they all said the same thing about him being
00:48:42 inaccurate.
00:48:43 He's got an arm, blah, blah, blah.
00:48:45 But he's not, you know, the guy for it.
00:48:46 And I really didn't see him being that, you know, that quarterback that was going to be,
00:48:52 you know, the guy to take the franchise to the next level.
00:48:54 Unfortunately, you know, I just that's just my personal opinion.
00:48:57 I think a lot of people were shocked with it.
00:48:59 But I just feel like when you look at analytically where we were at in the draft, when you look
00:49:05 at the analytics of what he did in his workouts and how he tested out, that it was just a
00:49:10 thing that it was going to be, you know, you had to take them.
00:49:12 Like you couldn't pass that up.
00:49:14 They're shot in the dark.
00:49:15 And unfortunately, you know, since since luck, right.
00:49:19 It's just been, you know, here in Indy, coach fans have been looking for that next Peyton
00:49:23 Manning.
00:49:24 And quite honestly, like, you know, you don't get those kind of guys that come around once
00:49:28 in a lifetime.
00:49:29 So, you know, I personally would like to see I would have loved to see the coach go after
00:49:34 a veteran quarterback more aggressively.
00:49:37 You know, there were some that were out there that I felt like could have slid in that were
00:49:40 younger instead of getting guys are like thirty five, thirty six years old, you know, can't
00:49:44 throw a ball through a paper bag, you know, saying what I do today.
00:49:49 I'm not the one, you know, calling the shots, but I just feel like you could get a you can
00:49:53 get a garoppolo ish kind of kind of guy.
00:49:57 Right.
00:49:58 Like, you know, I'm saying like, you know, with some treadmills on the tires, you know,
00:50:03 to try to write in the ship, because at this point, you're trying to put everything, you
00:50:08 know, in the basket of a rookie quarterback that hasn't proven himself or a guy that's
00:50:13 his ship has sailed and he's just, you know, you know, we can go.
00:50:16 You guys know Matt Ryan Carson wins.
00:50:18 That thing was a joke.
00:50:19 I can tell you one thing that I that I that I disagree on is Jimmy G.
00:50:25 Yeah, I know.
00:50:26 That's why I said garoppolo ish.
00:50:27 Garoppolo went for Carl.
00:50:28 I don't want I don't want no garoppolo.
00:50:29 So, hold on, let me say this one thing.
00:50:39 So Donald, yeah, go ahead, go ahead, go ahead.
00:50:43 Like I've been on this buddy.
00:50:44 I mean, my buddy bigger.
00:50:45 That's the age of Tampa Bay.
00:50:50 My guy, Lawrence, help me out here.
00:50:52 You can make a Mayfield.
00:50:55 I want to be Jonathan and hear me out on this.
00:50:59 Right.
00:51:00 Because, like, you know, if you're playing for a team, right.
00:51:05 And, you know, you guys need a quarterback and you like, listen, a rookie quarterback
00:51:10 ain't going to get it done.
00:51:11 Like, we know what we need right now.
00:51:13 We got veteran receivers.
00:51:14 We need someone who's going to lead this team like we don't have leaders on the team.
00:51:19 Like let's give me somebody season.
00:51:21 This is done a little something in their career.
00:51:24 Like it's got it.
00:51:25 This guy at least five or six years left.
00:51:27 They can really kind of like have us like middle of the road and we have other guys
00:51:31 to pick up the slack and make plays.
00:51:33 You know what I'm saying?
00:51:34 Like that's why I said, especially in the locker room and the meeting rooms and stuff
00:51:39 like that, being able to have guys to kind of, you know, sound off and give second opinions
00:51:43 and make sure we on the same page like a Baker, somebody like that.
00:51:49 Baker may feel like, you know, I'm saying like more.
00:51:52 I just feel like we just, I don't know why we do it, but we go for these old guys and
00:51:57 now we go from one extreme to the other.
00:51:58 We go from super old guys.
00:52:00 It's like realistically like, come on man, to, to, to rookies that were like, I don't
00:52:05 even know what this dude's really going to do because at quarterback, you could be a
00:52:09 monster in college and come to the league and be straight trash.
00:52:13 Like it's like, it's a crap shoot when you think about it.
00:52:16 When I had the quarterback position, like you never know what you're going to get, honestly.
00:52:20 So what do you have?
00:52:21 You have Gardner Minshew starting right now, right?
00:52:23 Yeah.
00:52:24 Correct.
00:52:25 So what are your thoughts on him?
00:52:26 And give me your thoughts on this upcoming Sunday.
00:52:28 If he throws for 300 yards, you know what's going to happen.
00:52:30 Y'all going to lose.
00:52:31 I saw some stats.
00:52:32 That's a scary thing, right?
00:52:34 Because look, I like Gardner Minshew if he throws between 20 and 30 times a game, you
00:52:40 know, any, any more than that.
00:52:42 And you're, you're flirting with fire.
00:52:44 That's, that's a, that's a problem.
00:52:47 The Colts need to have 20 to 30 carries from the running back position with Gardner Minshew,
00:52:53 right?
00:52:54 At least that's my opinion, especially when you've got a running back room, the way, the
00:52:57 way it's sitting, but Gardner's Gardner's a guy, you know, everybody in the, in the
00:53:01 locker room loves him.
00:53:03 He's got a good attitude.
00:53:05 He's actually pretty accurate for the most part.
00:53:09 And you know, he's got some ability to him for the most part.
00:53:13 You mean just like, just like Baker.
00:53:15 Is that like, you have that every once in a while, about every 15 throws that he throws,
00:53:22 you look at it and go, what was that?
00:53:24 Baker's got a better arm than Minshew.
00:53:28 Don't get me wrong, but I'm just saying that whole, what were you throwing that football?
00:53:34 Right.
00:53:35 So that, that's, that's a problem with Minshew.
00:53:39 Didn't see it as much this past week.
00:53:41 He did have that one, that one really bad pick that I honestly believe that he threw
00:53:46 it to the wrong side of Pittman.
00:53:48 You know, if he'd thrown it to the left side of Pittman, that's a touchdown, throws it
00:53:51 to the right side, right to the corner, you know, and you're like, what in the world are
00:53:55 you doing?
00:53:56 So, so he's like the, the cologne and anchorman.
00:53:58 He's like sex Panther where it's like 80% of the time it works every time.
00:54:03 So that's what's, that's the problem catching what you're describing.
00:54:06 It's like he's accurate most of the time, but most of the time, we get it there.
00:54:12 He doesn't have a super cannon for an arm though.
00:54:15 That's that's, that's a situation, you know, he's not going to the biggest hurt in my opinion
00:54:21 is when he goes downfield, you better have some open green grass where he could throw
00:54:25 and lead the receiver because he's not going to put that, you know, between two defenders,
00:54:31 25, 30 yards downfield.
00:54:33 He's just, he's just not going to do it.
00:54:36 Shouldn't it be standard for, shouldn't it be standard for quarterbacks to hit the deep
00:54:41 ball?
00:54:42 Yeah.
00:54:43 Yeah.
00:54:44 I'm really, I'm really frustrated with this Jimmy G thing.
00:54:55 I was really watching this game to see if he was really going to be that bad.
00:55:00 He was.
00:55:01 It was bad.
00:55:02 I got a question.
00:55:06 Donald, you, uh, you being, you know, first of all, I don't know what you're doing to
00:55:12 be working out to where y'all be just losing weight like this.
00:55:15 No, you know, he used to be an offensive guard.
00:55:19 A lot of hard work, a lot of hard work, that boy out there, like eating rocks.
00:55:26 But I'll do this though.
00:55:27 As soon as they're, as soon as they retire, that weight just melts off.
00:55:30 Like, literally like Jordan Rose, like he's like half the size he was before.
00:55:34 I thought he liked it, you know, for, you know, being, you know, wow.
00:55:42 And how long?
00:55:43 Uh, when I started, I started losing weight, like 2017, like the day of the solar eclipse,
00:55:50 like I was just like, all right, this is it.
00:55:53 And so like, I just threw everything out the house and like, literally I lost 30 pounds
00:55:56 in a month.
00:55:57 And then it's kind of been gradual since then.
00:55:59 Like, you know, like I'll be like, all right, let me lose five more.
00:56:02 Let me, let me do this.
00:56:03 Change my diet up type stuff.
00:56:05 I just was tired of being fat.
00:56:06 Honestly, I wanted to go on vacation, take my shirt off and be comfortable.
00:56:10 Not be that guy with a t-shirt on in the pool, you know?
00:56:13 I hear you.
00:56:14 Go ahead and show that off man.
00:56:15 Shout out to you.
00:56:16 No more walk around.
00:56:17 No more walk around eating sandwiches all day.
00:56:18 Yeah.
00:56:19 Gosh.
00:56:20 My question though is, you know, we got, we got some offensive line issues.
00:56:29 Um, we've had depth guys getting injured.
00:56:32 We just got Austin Corbett back.
00:56:35 Um, right Desmond?
00:56:37 Yeah.
00:56:38 Yes.
00:56:39 I played Sunday.
00:56:40 Yeah.
00:56:41 So he's back.
00:56:42 And, um, and, and really want to talk about, you know, Ikky, um, you know, our, our left
00:56:47 tackle, you know, he's, you know, last year he had a great season.
00:56:52 Um, and, and really, I just want you to talk to our fans and calm them down in the sense
00:56:59 of, you know, the process, you have a new offensive, you know, coordinator got a new
00:57:05 coaching staff and you got depth issues, right?
00:57:10 You learn a lot.
00:57:11 So like from the offensive line position, you've played there, you played around guys
00:57:16 that struggle that shouldn't struggle, or you played around guys that should struggle,
00:57:22 but somehow rose to the occasion.
00:57:24 Um, talk us through what you might be able to like identify with in the sense of what
00:57:30 Ikky is going through right now.
00:57:32 So yeah.
00:57:33 Um, you know, when you have a new coordinator, when you're, when you're learning essentially
00:57:37 kind of a new offense, you know, there's a lot of like little nuances that change the
00:57:42 offensive line.
00:57:43 A lot of people don't realize you, you know, but a lot of people don't realize like, you
00:57:47 know, just like the small things that, that they change far as blocking scenes go, or,
00:57:52 you know, just the calls, just like the verbiage and all that kind of stuff.
00:57:56 And honestly, like, you know, you got a whole new regime, a whole new, you know, coach and
00:58:00 all that coming in and you got to prove yourself to them as well.
00:58:03 Right.
00:58:04 And so, you know, like when you play for a certain, you know, coaching staff, they believe
00:58:08 in you.
00:58:09 They have super confidence when you go out there to oppose, to, you don't know if these
00:58:13 guys really believe in you anymore, or they're kind of like, you're not, you don't feel like
00:58:17 you're their guy.
00:58:18 Right.
00:58:19 And so that all plays a part into like a young guy's like development.
00:58:22 And so when you look at a guy like that, especially at that left tackle position, that's the money
00:58:27 spot.
00:58:28 Like, if you're not, if you're not on every game, like you're, you're, you're dealing
00:58:31 with like the number one pass rusher over there.
00:58:33 Like, you know what I'm saying?
00:58:34 So that like that within itself is one thing.
00:58:36 But you know, one thing that I learned is that guys I saw included myself that, you
00:58:41 know, would progress from season to season where the guys that really worked in the offseason.
00:58:46 Now I'm not, I don't know what his workout regime is like in the offseason, but it's
00:58:50 a constant progression, especially at offensive line, any position, you know, at that, you
00:58:55 have to work on your craft for sure.
00:58:57 And when you have success one year, you already know guys are studying how to beat you.
00:59:02 You have to understand that.
00:59:03 And so when it comes to it, you know, a guy's confidence can really get rattled when he
00:59:08 gets beat multiple times by, by, by, by one person or multiple games where you got to
00:59:14 have a guy, a coach that can really get through to your players.
00:59:16 And why I say positional coaches are so important because they can really talk to that pro that
00:59:21 player and get the best out of them and help them understand, like, listen, you know what
00:59:25 you can do, you know why you're here, you know?
00:59:27 And so it's still relatively early in the season, right?
00:59:30 You know, we're, we're through the first quarter, what, what have you, but you know, for him,
00:59:34 he's just got to understand and go back to his roots of how he got there and why he's
00:59:38 there and also watch tape on these dudes, like watch tape on Trent, on Trent Williams.
00:59:42 I think Trent Williams is number one tackle in the league by, by far, like watch what
00:59:46 these guys do.
00:59:47 And if that's not your skill set, find somebody that's comparable to that in order to be successful.
00:59:53 But at the same time, you have to, the coaching staff has to do things to put, make their
00:59:57 guys successful.
00:59:58 Right?
00:59:59 Like if you switch something up from last year to this year, and you know that this
01:00:02 guy is, is he, he struggles in outside zone.
01:00:06 You can't keep running outside zone to his side.
01:00:09 You know what I'm saying?
01:00:10 You can't do certain things.
01:00:11 You can't ask him to, to on his double teams, if he's not strong with the double teams,
01:00:15 we can't keep running power counter to his side, like we're struggling there.
01:00:18 Right?
01:00:19 So we have to find ways that this is going to be your guy that's going to be starting.
01:00:22 And I know the depth and all that.
01:00:23 He's probably the best guy for that job right now on, on your roster.
01:00:27 You have to do things that make him successful as well.
01:00:32 We got Lawrence and Donald Thomas in here, believe in coats host on the bleed podcast
01:00:37 network.
01:00:38 We're wrapping it up here.
01:00:39 Let's get predictions on this game.
01:00:41 Colts Panthers, one o'clock PM Fox this Sunday, Panthers trying to move to two and six on
01:00:47 the season and when they're second in the row Colts trying to stay afloat after losing
01:00:52 their first round draft pick Anthony Richardson earlier in the season for the season to injury
01:00:56 guys, give me your predictions here.
01:00:58 Let's start off with, with you Lawrence.
01:01:00 What do you think is going to happen in this game?
01:01:01 Give me a score and an outcome.
01:01:03 I'm just glad love this.
01:01:06 Cause you know, this hurt.
01:01:07 Now I don't know if it's still be out.
01:01:11 What was, what was, what was the viscous injury?
01:01:13 Stu, was it like a high ankle sprain or something like that?
01:01:15 I haven't checked the injury report and, and Skylar had to go.
01:01:19 He had a sports illustrated meeting.
01:01:20 He had to get to at 1130.
01:01:21 So he had to drop off, but I don't know if Chanel is going to be available.
01:01:25 Raheem Blacksher kind of some of the same things and he's out there.
01:01:28 So
01:01:29 what's up with you guys at wide receiver.
01:01:33 I don't understand this either, man.
01:01:35 I mean, hey, like tear our defense up every, every year too, man.
01:01:40 And we thought we got rid of them and Oh no, we got to play him again this year.
01:01:45 Look, and then you got Adam feeling how has Adam been this year?
01:01:50 He is our number one wide receiver.
01:01:52 57 catches 581 yards.
01:01:55 Yup.
01:01:56 He's, he's become the safety valve for for Bryce Young that we thought the tight end
01:02:02 was going to be, but it's really become feeling.
01:02:04 He kind of looks for him whenever he needs you know, an outlet for something.
01:02:08 And he was looking at him hard all day Sunday.
01:02:11 I was wrong.
01:02:12 That is not a one o'clock game.
01:02:13 That is a four o'clock game on CBS.
01:02:15 So I just gave all kinds of wrong information.
01:02:17 It's a four o'clock kickoff on CBS and it is in Charlotte.
01:02:22 So it is at Bank of America stadium, but it's not a one o'clock.
01:02:25 It's four o'clock and it's not on Fox.
01:02:26 It's on CBS.
01:02:27 Donald, your thoughts.
01:02:28 What's a, well, wait, Lawrence, did you pick?
01:02:31 No, I didn't.
01:02:32 I'm just, I'm a little worried because look, our secondary is banged up bad, right?
01:02:38 We got a bunch of, I've talked about this earlier.
01:02:40 It's just, it's, it's decimated our secondary is, and we have not been able to get enough
01:02:46 consistent pressure with our defensive tackle out for another, what, four or five games,
01:02:53 you know, that's good for us.
01:02:54 Yeah, that's great.
01:02:55 So, I mean, we're sitting with a backup at, at the one tech now.
01:03:01 So we, we, as a Colt fan, it's a little bit worrisome on the pass rush, defending the
01:03:09 pass, getting the pass rush and covering wide receivers.
01:03:12 Cause that, that goes hand in hand.
01:03:14 So that, that's a little bit worrisome.
01:03:16 I feel like the Panthers could probably score a little bit on the Colts through the air
01:03:22 until the Colts can get this fixed, which I don't see it happening anytime soon until
01:03:26 some guys come back from injury.
01:03:27 This is different from last week.
01:03:29 Cause last week the believe in Texans hose came in here, like they, they threw a party
01:03:32 and look what happened.
01:03:36 Every team is an NFL team, right?
01:03:38 I mean, you try to, you try to kill us with like lack of confidence.
01:03:42 No, no, I'm very serious.
01:03:45 Now I feel like our offense will put a lot of points on the board.
01:03:49 Okay.
01:03:50 Our, our, our only team that scored 20 points or more in every game this year, you know,
01:03:54 our offense is fine.
01:03:55 That's a good note right there.
01:03:56 Turnover issues, but we moved the ball and score.
01:04:01 I feel like this could be a very high scoring game.
01:04:03 I feel like, you know, again, something like 33, 36, we get up in the thirties.
01:04:11 I'm ecstatic.
01:04:12 I love your wide receiving core.
01:04:15 If Chanel was, was healthy it'd be, it'd be scary.
01:04:19 So, and against our cornerbacks right now the only, the only thing is if Bradley decides
01:04:27 to bullets for the second time this year.
01:04:30 Wow.
01:04:31 That's the thing, you know, you want to get pressure on a rookie quarterback.
01:04:36 I think Bryce was like eight for 10 against the blitz Sunday.
01:04:40 He's actually pretty good.
01:04:41 I believe that, but at the same time, he probably wouldn't be expecting it because the Colts
01:04:47 blitz the least amount of any team in the, in the league, right?
01:04:51 The Texans had the least amount of sacks going into Sunday and they ended up with six coming
01:04:56 out of Charlotte.
01:04:57 So, you know, so Donald, what's your thoughts here?
01:05:01 Yeah.
01:05:02 You know, we're going to score a lot of points.
01:05:05 The question is, can we stop you guys from scoring a lot of points?
01:05:08 And I don't see that happening.
01:05:09 So I'm going 34 31.
01:05:10 I'm still going to say the Colts are going to squeak it out.
01:05:14 We have to win a turnover battle, but like I said, we, we, we do score pretty quickly.
01:05:19 You know, we're good for a score and opening drive for the most part this year.
01:05:23 And we get a little stagnant and then we pick it back up in the second half.
01:05:27 So I'm gonna say 34 31, you know, like more said, we're banged up and the interior defense
01:05:32 is questionable.
01:05:34 So there are yards to be had up front.
01:05:36 If we just can take care of the football, which we really are not really good at, then
01:05:41 it, you know, but I'm going to say 34 31.
01:05:45 Here's the thing.
01:05:46 I just hope the Colts don't lose.
01:05:47 I'm going to be completely honest with you guys.
01:05:48 You know what I'm saying?
01:05:49 Like, I'm just being real with you.
01:05:50 Like, I don't want to sit like if we lose to, you know, Carolina, I think they're going
01:05:57 to go crazy out here.
01:05:59 That's just, I'm not, there's no disrespect to either.
01:06:01 We know, we know.
01:06:02 But you know what I'm saying though, it's just like, you should be upset if you, you
01:06:07 know what I mean?
01:06:08 Like, so we are one, we got the worst one in 16, but the Colts will turn around and
01:06:16 like go toe to toe with like Kansas city or San Francisco or Philly.
01:06:20 And then like, you know what I'm saying?
01:06:23 And then play a one in six football team and play like they're one in six and it's up for
01:06:27 grabs and that's just our MO.
01:06:29 So it was just like, I want, we're the better football team on paper.
01:06:32 And when you look at us from a standpoint of how we've been playing this year, but there's
01:06:35 no guarantee on how we're going to come out on Sunday.
01:06:37 And that's just, that's just being real.
01:06:39 All right.
01:06:40 So Stu, I feel like we're being punked because I don't know, because I don't know if I want
01:06:46 to go look at our defensive depth chart, dude.
01:06:49 You'll understand.
01:06:50 I don't know.
01:06:51 Last week, the saints toasted them boys, man.
01:06:53 Number 22 was all over the place.
01:06:55 The saints are not like 150 yards.
01:06:57 I'm running back for a receiver with that number.
01:07:03 Every running back that they had, every run was at least seven yards.
01:07:07 You know, I mean, it was ridiculous.
01:07:08 Look, they said everything I wanted to hear.
01:07:11 Like I just didn't know they were going to say it like they literally know we're going
01:07:14 to turn all over.
01:07:15 It's like, Hey, look, we didn't want our first game and all that was all the medicine we
01:07:23 needed.
01:07:24 Yeah.
01:07:25 I'm ready to go the distance.
01:07:34 Listen, we are two games back in our division.
01:07:37 I know.
01:07:38 I don't care how bad this season has started.
01:07:41 We are two games back.
01:07:43 You know what the Falcons are capable of capable of?
01:07:46 They history always proves they can start off 10 and one.
01:07:51 They don't lose the last four games, five games and be out of it, whatever, you know?
01:07:56 So I just saw it.
01:07:57 The Saints and the Vikings are talking about maybe trading Jameson Winston.
01:08:00 They already given up.
01:08:01 They don't even care.
01:08:02 And it's Tampa.
01:08:03 Who knows what's going on with Tampa?
01:08:04 Like, they're just like here, here, here, here, like every week.
01:08:09 We trust.
01:08:10 But look, the Carolina Panthers in these, in these coats, look, I'm going to say this.
01:08:18 We not going to have the opportunity to score that many times, but when we do, we're going
01:08:23 to.
01:08:24 And the reason why I say we're not going to have the opportunity because y'all going to
01:08:26 run the ball.
01:08:27 Yeah.
01:08:28 Okay.
01:08:29 Cause y'all got some dogs.
01:08:32 You guys, Zach Moss, his name is first name is Zach, right?
01:08:35 Yeah.
01:08:36 Jonathan and Jonathan Taylor.
01:08:38 And then Jonathan Taylor.
01:08:39 So I mean, if y'all stick to that solution, which y'all will, y'all going to be in it,
01:08:44 but we're going to win the game.
01:08:47 I'm going to go 31.
01:08:48 It's only 30s.
01:08:49 Where are all these points coming from?
01:08:50 31, 24.
01:08:51 Wow.
01:08:52 I mean, I'm giving y'all, I'm giving y'all 24 because you got some dogs in the backfield
01:09:04 that might break them.
01:09:05 I don't know about all this 31 point nonsense.
01:09:08 Cause I'm going, I'm going, I'm going 31 because Bryce Young, this last game that he had, it
01:09:16 was a confidence game.
01:09:17 I see.
01:09:18 You know what I'm saying?
01:09:20 Him against CJ Stroud.
01:09:21 That's over with.
01:09:22 Okay.
01:09:23 Oh, we have a six minute drive down the field and we got to kick a field goal.
01:09:28 Oh, I can do that while getting blasted in the backfield.
01:09:34 A running game, a running game.
01:09:36 We need you to run the ball at the end of the game.
01:09:40 No matter how it looks, we need you to do it.
01:09:43 They did it.
01:09:44 So now the offensive line is like, okay, we did something right.
01:09:48 Despite how the season's gone.
01:09:50 Oh, we got Austin Corbin back and it was his first game last week and we won with him.
01:09:56 Confidence building.
01:09:57 Defense is getting healthy.
01:09:58 Defense is getting healthy.
01:09:59 No, defense is getting healthy, but defense has been doing it with guys that just been
01:10:03 stepping up.
01:10:04 Yeah.
01:10:05 Execution.
01:10:06 That's what they've been doing.
01:10:07 They've been executing.
01:10:08 All right.
01:10:09 Oh, there's some news in here.
01:10:10 I feel pretty good about it.
01:10:12 Montez Sweat just got traded to the Bears for a second round pick.
01:10:15 That's huge.
01:10:16 That is really huge.
01:10:17 What did the Bears get?
01:10:19 That's it?
01:10:20 A second round pick?
01:10:21 That was a former first rounder coming out of, is the fire cell on in DC?
01:10:26 Because I know Sweat and Chase Young were kind of named in their own.
01:10:33 I'll give you a second for Chase, man.
01:10:35 Yeah, come on.
01:10:36 Come on over here, Chase.
01:10:37 We'll give you, we'll throw that second up there real quick because we got to get out
01:10:41 of here.
01:10:42 I don't, I can't see this Panther team exploding for 30 points yet.
01:10:48 And I know all three of you, 30 something, that's something I think more like 24, 17,
01:10:54 like it'll become more of a defensive type game.
01:10:57 I'm going to go with the Panthers too, because it's at home.
01:10:59 So you're saying the Panthers will be the first team all year to hold the Colts under
01:11:02 20?
01:11:03 I think they could.
01:11:04 I think they could with the front seven that they have.
01:11:07 They can put pressure on Minshew with Brian Burns, Frankie Louvu.
01:11:12 Now they are a little banged up.
01:11:13 Justin Houston didn't finish the game.
01:11:14 I think he's injured and a couple of other guys there, but Derek Brown, they've got the
01:11:19 front seven to kind of rattle him a little bit.
01:11:21 If the Colts decide to throw it more and they're going to pass it and give them time to pin
01:11:25 their ears back and go hunt, then I think that can affect the game and they can, you
01:11:28 know, cause some three and outs and things of that sort.
01:11:30 But if the, if to Stu's point, if the Colts decide to run the ball, our run defense isn't
01:11:35 exactly the greatest, they could kind of find a avenue there to stay on the field with the
01:11:40 running backs that you have and your offensive line is actually pretty good.
01:11:43 So I could see the Colts kind of plan keep away a little bit on offense.
01:11:47 All that's going to affect the game and the scores itself.
01:11:49 So I don't think any either team's going to get the 30, but I'm going to pick Panthers
01:11:52 24, 17.
01:11:55 And I don't think it's going to feel close.
01:11:57 I feel like the pants will get out early.
01:11:59 The Colts might make it look good towards the end, but I don't know.
01:12:02 I just feel like the Panthers have turned a page.
01:12:04 We've been watching them each week.
01:12:05 They haven't been an Owen 16 or Owens.
01:12:07 They were Owen six, feel like an Owen 16.
01:12:10 They felt like they were figuring things out on the fly.
01:12:12 And now this homestand, you got some things figured out coaching situation.
01:12:17 So I don't know.
01:12:18 I feel, I feel pretty good about the Panthers going into this game.
01:12:21 But we'll see.
01:12:22 Yeah.
01:12:23 The Colts got to travel.
01:12:24 The Colts got to travel.
01:12:25 Yeah.
01:12:26 It's a late afternoon game now.
01:12:27 It's going to be in the hotel room.
01:12:30 Like, man, hurry up.
01:12:33 Got to play the Panthers today.
01:12:35 They won a six.
01:12:36 Hurry up.
01:12:37 Yeah.
01:12:38 It's going to get the same angle with it.
01:12:39 That is how it happens too.
01:12:40 Exactly.
01:12:41 You know what it is.
01:12:42 Man, we played the Cleveland Browns today.
01:12:43 Ah.
