00:00 In Palestine, Israeli Defense Forces carried out an incursion of a military reconnaissance
00:14 brigade in the northern Gaza Strip.
00:19 In Belgium, European Union leaders met to discuss the conflict between Palestine and
00:26 Israel.
00:27 In China, the Shenzhou-17 mission was launched to the Tiangong space station with three astronauts
00:33 on board.
00:37 Hello, welcome to From the South.
00:44 I'm Ana R. Sabal from the Television Studios in Havana, Cuba, we begin with news.
01:00 On Thursday morning, the Israeli Defense Forces carried out an incursion of a military reconnaissance
01:06 brigade in the northern Gaza Strip.
01:08 The incursion took place the day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu affirmed
01:14 that his plan is to invade the Palestinian enclave.
01:16 As reported by the Israeli forces through their official channels, it was a "salute
01:21 to the incursion by the Jabhati Brigade".
01:24 The communication was accompanied by images on the screen, showing the advance of a column
01:28 of tanks through the border fence that surprised the territories occupied by Israel from the
01:33 Gaza Strip.
01:34 The report further stated that the action was part of the preparation of the area for
01:39 the next stages of combat.
01:46 The UN Security Council has failed against the adverse Israeli-Hamas conflict in Gaza,
01:52 rejecting rival United States and Russian resolutions.
01:55 The U.S. resolution would have reaffirmed Israel's right to self-defense and urge respect
02:00 for international law, especially protection of civilians, and called for humanitarian
02:05 passes to deliver desperately needed aid to Gaza.
02:09 Wednesday's vote was 10-3 with two abstentions and was not adopted because both Russia and
02:14 China cast vetoes.
02:17 The Russian resolution would have called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and unincovertably
02:21 condemned Hamas' October 7 attacks on Israel and indiscriminate attacks on civilians and
02:27 civilian objects in Gaza.
02:30 During the Security Council session, the Chinese ambassador to the United Nations, Sheng Zheng,
02:39 explained the reason behind his country's veto over the draft resolution presented on
02:43 the Gaza conflict.
02:44 "What we oppose is that the draft text does not call on the parties concerned to stop
02:51 the indiscriminate and asymmetrical use of force, nor does it call for a thorough investigation
02:57 into the heinous attack on the Al-Hali Hospital.
03:00 Such selective application of international law and double standards will only push more
03:05 innocent civilians to the brink of death.
03:08 What we oppose is that the draft text attempts to establish a new narrative on the Palestinian-Israeli
03:13 issue, ignoring the fact that the Palestinian territories have been occupied for a long
03:18 time and avoiding evading the fundamental issue of independence, statehood for the Palestinian
03:24 people."
03:25 In Belgium, the European Union leaders met this Thursday to discuss the conflict between
03:31 Palestine and Israel.
03:33 The summit will take place at the Council of the European Union building in Brussels
03:37 and is expected to last for two days.
03:39 The extraordinary meeting called by the European Council President Charles Michel comes after
03:44 a week of uncoordinated, confusing and sometimes contradictory messages sent by the bloc's
03:50 politicians both in personal and on social media.
03:53 Humanitarian assistance, hostage-release, security arrests, migratory movement and engagement
03:59 with regional actors to prevent an escalation of violence will be among the main issues
04:03 on the agenda.
04:05 The possibility of formally calling for a ceasefire will also be on the table.
04:16 Palestinian babies are deprived of the mothers loved to the consular bombardment.
04:21 For more detail, let's watch a report of a correspondent in Gaza, Huda Hegassi.
04:25 This is the story of Maka, a baby inside her mother's belly who managed to survive the
04:33 occupation's missiles.
04:35 The Israeli army bombed her family's home and unfortunately her mother and several members
04:41 of her family were killed.
04:43 Fortunately, doctors were able to operate on her lifeless mother and managed to bring
04:50 Maka out safely.
04:52 "When the mother arrived, the doctors reacted quickly and professionally.
04:58 They opened the belly and were able to take the baby out.
05:01 And the pediatrician who was there did the resuscitation.
05:07 And now as we can see the baby is in the incubator and her state of health is between intermediate
05:13 and good.
05:16 And she has started to eat.
05:19 And this is a good sign."
05:20 Unfortunately, Maka's life and the life of many other babies in the incubators are in
05:31 danger due to the power cuts.
05:34 According to the doctors, the incubators and respiratory equipment could stop working at
05:39 any time due to the lack of fuel.
05:42 And that would mean the death of all the newborns in the incubators.
05:47 "This is not the only child in danger.
05:51 But all the children in the incubator are in danger.
05:57 Since electricity is essential for them and the babies need to be connected to breathing
06:04 machines in order to live.
06:08 This means that if the fuel for the incubators runs out, it means a death sentence for all
06:15 these children."
06:19 More than three quarters of the hospitals in the Gaza Strip are out of service.
06:24 A disastrous situation endangering the life of millions of Gazatis.
06:28 The occupation army's missiles have caused Maka, like many other babies, to be denied
06:33 of the affection of their mothers.
06:35 A criminal entity that does not differentiate between children, women or the elderly, and
06:40 whose only objective is to kill and destroy.
06:43 Uday Ghazi, TELESUR, Gaza, Palestine.
06:47 On Wednesday, Peruvian and Arab demonstrators protested in support of the Palestinian people
06:53 in front of the Israeli embassy in Lima.
06:56 In a capital, a group of demonstrators protested in front of the Israeli embassy against the
07:00 bombing carried out on the Palestinian people.
07:03 The participants in the demonstration stressed that although they are not Palestinians, they
07:07 are against the genocide that Israel had been committing for 75 years.
07:12 Also the government of Peru expressed in recent days profound rejection and condemnation to
07:17 the attack on the El Aliyah Arab Hospital in Gaza, which left 100 people unwounded.
07:27 In Cuba, the ambassador of the State of Palestine in the island demanded a ceasefire to prevent
07:32 massacres of Tel Aviv regime against the Gaza Strip.
07:35 During a meeting with the representative of the Cuban international media, the diplomat
07:40 affirmed that the ceasefire is the only way for humanitarian aid to reach those affected
07:45 in Gaza.
07:46 He also asserted that the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu follows the strategy of
07:51 erasing from the face of the earth and eliminating the inalienable rights of the Palestinian
07:56 people to be their own states, with borders in the limits before 1967 and with its capital
08:03 in eastern Jerusalem.
08:05 While indicating that the attacks and raids of the occupation army in West Bank have cost
08:09 more than 5,000 victims, including children, women and the elderly.
08:20 We want a solution to the conflict according to the international law, a Palestinian state
08:28 with its capital in east Jerusalem and the return of the refugees.
08:37 This is the solution that the Palestinian people want, which is in accordance with the
08:44 international law.
08:45 It is decided by the United Nations Security Council and the General Assembly.
08:51 Let's take a short break.
08:54 But remember you can join us on Tinker, that tells you English, World of War News, in different
08:59 formats, new days and more.
09:01 All studies coming up.
09:02 Stay with us.
09:02 Welcome back.
09:24 In Brazil, President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva announced the action of the Israeli
09:29 state against the Palestinian people as an act of genocide.
09:33 The head of state condemned the Israeli war against the Gaza Strip, while also assuring
09:37 that the conflict in Palestine has led to the murder of almost 2,000 children.
09:42 The Brazilian president said that he cannot understand how a human being is capable of
09:46 waging a war, knowing that the outcome will be the death of innocents.
09:50 At the same time, Lula da Silva assured that he will take the necessary measures so that
09:55 the Brazilians who had frapped in the Gaza Strip return to the South American country.
10:06 It is not a question of just saying who is right and who is wrong.
10:10 The problem here is the following.
10:12 It is not a war.
10:15 It is a genocide that has already killed almost 2,000 children who have nothing to do with
10:19 that war, who are victims of that war.
10:22 I sincerely don't know how a human being is capable of war, knowing that the result
10:27 of that war is the death of innocent children.
10:32 Education workers in Panama went on a 48-hour strike on Wednesday, joining the protests
10:37 against the winning contract signed between the government and a Canadian mining company.
10:42 The district's press were judging to demand on the environmental devastation, in addition
10:47 to the surrender of national sovereignty to foreign entities.
10:51 Several union organizations of the country are developing street protests against the
10:55 decision taken by the executive, which forces to grant an exploitation concession for 20
11:00 years to a Canadian mining company, which is considered unconstitutional by the judicial
11:06 power.
11:07 A union representative declared that intention to continue in the streets in rejection to
11:11 the decision.
11:18 The Costa Rica Union Organization called for a much-needed defense of the social rule of
11:23 law.
11:24 Mobilization for improvement in health, education and housing were reported throughout the country.
11:30 More than 50 organizations are protesting against the dismantling of public institutions,
11:35 the effects on the agricultural sector and the insecurity crisis, among others.
11:40 These organizations are made up of students from public universities, workers and different
11:44 unions, including the Agricultural Productive Center.
11:50 On Wednesday, in the United States, at least 22 people were killed and more than 50 wounded
11:57 in a new mass shooting in the city of Lewis Townley, West End, in the state of Maine.
12:02 Authorities indicated that the same shooter was responsible for the shootings at a Walmart
12:06 distribution center, a bar and a third unidentified location.
12:11 They said the suspect is on the run and urged nearby residents to stay in their homes while
12:16 investigations are underway.
12:18 In the meantime, police schools in Maine's largest city are closed on Thursday as manhunt
12:23 continues for the suspect in the Dallas shooting.
12:26 In this context, according to reports from the independent organization Gun Violence
12:30 in Arquive, so far in 2023, 564 mass shootings have been reported across the country.

13:20 Welcome back.
13:21 As part of the annual military training, South Korean Navy conducted a large-scale maritime
13:26 drill by the United States.
13:28 The Navy says that this year's drills include live-fire exercises and aerial operations
13:33 with helicopters and patrol aircraft.
13:37 Seoul claims that since 2022, North Korea has conducted over 100 missile tests and notes
13:43 that plenty of them simulate nuclear attacks on territory and the United States.
13:48 In response to North Korea's growing nuclear capability, the United States and South Korea
13:52 have been expanding their regular military drills and resuming some training with Japan.
14:14 The President of Mexico, NĂ©stor Manuel LĂłpez Obrador, visited the city of Acapulco on Wednesday
14:19 to verify the damages caused by the passage of Hurricane Ares.
14:24 After his arrival, the report of Acapulco, the President held a private meeting with
14:28 authorities of the state of Guerrero in order to evaluate the damage caused.
14:33 Hours earlier, the President, together with the heads of the Secretaries of National Defense,
14:37 Navy and Security and Protection, crossed the Mexico-Acapulco-Federal Highway on foot
14:43 after the vehicle in which they were traveling outside its landline area.
14:47 LĂłpez Obrador assured that there is still no accurate information about the number of
14:51 families affected or if there are any deaths.
14:59 On Thursday, China launched its Shenzhou-17 mission with three astronauts aboard to the
15:04 Tiangong Space Station.
15:06 China's spacecraft took off to become the sixth manned mission to reach the infrastructure
15:11 and the second to board it after its construction.
15:14 The mission will relieve the crew of the Shenzhou-16 and remain on the Chinese flag space station.
15:20 The Tiangong is the conjunction with the National Space Station, a used-late initiative, the
15:25 only space program of its kind in the world.
15:27 For those who want to know how the art of Cabo Eire will be related to water, the Guibao
15:55 on the Move team proposes the story of the director of hydrology and hydrogeology of
16:00 the International Institute of Hydraulic Resources of Cuba.
16:03 I correspond with Fabiola LĂłpez with the details.
16:10 They say he is the best-known hydraulic engineer in Cuba today.
16:13 They call him the water man.
16:15 The truth is that his image is irregular on Cuba's newscasts.
16:18 The master of science, Angeli Fernández, usually updates the country's hydrological situation.
16:24 His presence on TV was an accident.
16:26 He never forgets his first time on screen.
16:29 That first time was the only time I felt comfortable.
16:31 I thought it was a game, but they told me, "Let's do a test, and if it goes well, you
16:36 stay."
16:37 That phrase gave me the impetus to stay.
16:38 Every time people pose me a challenge, I do it well, and in all modesty, that day I was
16:43 spectacular.
16:44 I felt nervous every time I lit a bit in the second, third week.
16:47 I must admit, reporting on TV has changed my life.
16:51 When I go out on the street, I'm aware of having an audience.
16:54 At the onset, people did not know anything about what I reported because it was a new
16:58 subject, a new discipline.
17:00 But now people know.
17:01 Now people manage what I report.
17:03 They ask me questions.
17:04 Argelio is famous in Cuba.
17:06 Everyone knows he's an expert on rainfall runoff, filling of reservoirs and groundwater,
17:12 but very few know his fondness for capoeira.
17:15 Capoeira is in your blood.
17:19 Thus, it is in your insight to the dead.
17:24 Before capoeira, I didn't even sing in the shower.
17:31 Practitioners of dance fighting have to sing, have to compose a song, a subpoint.
17:35 Capoeiras, practitioners, are not dancers, but dance.
17:37 They're not acrobats, but do acrobatics.
17:39 They are not martial artists, but they fight.
17:41 Loving dance fighting, or capoeira, is just so, a way of being, a life philosophy.
17:47 Argelio has always been fond of martial arts, and he did karate and taekwondo, but in the
17:51 latest years, he wanted to do something else, closer to Cuban ideas, and closer to the Afro-Cubans'
17:56 typical joy, and he found so by the time he went to Brazil.
18:00 There, he was captivated by the sound of a berimbau that led him to a capoeira circle.
18:08 Cubans, Afro-Cuban, and Afro-Brazilian cultural practices are much alike.
18:15 We are very close.
18:16 Cubans are 100% rhythm.
18:19 Cubans are 100% joy.
18:23 Cubans are fighters.
18:24 Cuban are warriors, and those features have to do with capoeira.
18:31 He explains there are stigmas and biases against capoeira.
18:34 People often attach it to occultism, but his wish is dance fighting have more practitioners
18:38 in Cuba.
18:39 We are willing that practitioners of dance fighting gain further recognition, that is,
18:43 to remove current stigma and biases against capoeira, and most of all, current practitioners
18:48 must contribute to remove those negative opinions.
18:51 When people see me, they think if Argelio, who is a public figure, an official, a professional,
18:55 an engineer, a scientist, practices capoeira, it has to be a good sport, and particularly
19:00 by the time they visit the dance fighting circle, people will notice capoeira's cultural
19:04 baggage.
19:05 Argelio likes debating.
19:06 He wants to raise racial biases.
19:07 It should be further discussed.
19:08 In a certain way, I'm far from the stereotype of the black criminal, the black dancer, the
19:21 folklore black.
19:22 I'm far from the current stereotype of practitioners of dance fighting existing in half the world,
19:27 which is the black men with dreadlocks and no shirt.
19:30 I'm far from all stereotypes.
19:32 So many people sometimes say, "You speak very good."
19:34 And no, I speak as good as many people, but as I am black, I am more noticeable.
19:40 I say I'm proud of being black.
19:42 I mean, I've been practicing a black martial art for 16 years.
19:46 I've been practicing a black religion for 25 years.
19:49 And I've been black for 51 years.
19:51 Hence, the subject of race captivates me along everything it comprises.
19:57 Argelio is an engineer, a television presenter, a practitioner of dance fighting, and a religious
20:03 man who practices the oceanic protocols but reinvents himself every day.
20:07 He says he enjoys having plenty of projects, among them inserting the Tiavana aqueduct in
20:12 the world network of water museums and contributing to the spread of dance fighting throughout
20:17 the poor area in Cuba.
20:24 We have come to the end of this brief.
20:26 But before saying goodbye, we want to thank our Caribbean audience, especially the audience
20:31 of Trinidad and Tobago.
