00:00 The Migrant Workers Department is charging less than P50,000 for every Filipino who returned from Israel due to rising tensions there.
00:10 Once in the Philippines, they will receive additional assistance from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
00:16 The assistance from the DMW comes from a P1.2 billion action fund that was created to help OFWs anywhere in the world.
00:26 In a House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs, DMW Officer-in-Charge Hans Kakdak said
00:33 that of the more than 5,000 OFWs who were helped, the victims were those who were displaced in Turkey and those who returned from Sudan.
00:41 We are giving 30,000 cash out rights to returning OFWs and there are special cases among those who were displaced or were in war situations like Sudan and here in Israel.
00:57 According to Kakdak, they are currently working with the Labor Department to give jobs to the children of four Filipinos who died in Israel.
01:07 OFWs who are members of the OWA will receive additional assistance.
01:12 Currently, we are helping the two siblings of the victim, Binmale Pangasinan, so we are helping them to find jobs.
01:26 Those who returned from Israel, being OWA members, they are entitled to reintegration programs like Balikpanas, Balikahanap Buhay, and the Enterprise Development Loan Program.
01:40 Currently, DMW has more than P700 million left in the action fund.
01:45 The agency said that it is targeted to finish it by December.
01:49 But if there is any left, they will add it to their budget for 2024.
01:53 Meanwhile, DMW and the Social Security System are arguing on how to have a separate pension fund for OFWs.
02:03 It is better to make it easier for OFWs to drop out of the SSS so that they can receive enough benefits to go home to the Philippines.
02:12 Based on the SSS data, more than half of its 1,300,000 OFW members are not paying contributions.
02:22 The creation of a separate Social Security Retirement Pension System will be a duplication of the current functions of the SSS.
02:34 If other pension funds are formed, it will be a new face for the financial community.
02:40 And the financial standing and track record will still have to be established.
02:45 The committee is continuing to discuss the position of other government agencies and groups of OFWs for the creation of a new pension fund.
