The Cincinnati Bengals usually don't make trade deadline deals, but James Rapien and Mo Egger think that could change this year. Find out why it makes sense for them to add another piece before the deadline!

00:00 What's your response when people say, ah, the Bengals don't make trades.
00:04 They never do that.
00:05 Mike Brown doesn't make trades because every article, every video, that's the
00:09 initial comment from someone and everyone is saying it now.
00:13 And.
00:14 Despite that, I still think there's at least a chance they make
00:17 a deal before the deadline.
00:18 But what's your response when you see that?
00:20 When I hear somebody say they don't make trades, my response is correct.
00:24 They also don't win super bowls.
00:26 So, and now they have a chance, like a legitimate chance, just despite the start,
00:30 despite the way the season has unfolded.
00:32 It's not that far fetched to suggest the Bengals are going to make a
00:36 deep run of the post season and end up in Vegas in February.
00:38 So maximize your ability to do that.
00:41 And look, they've, they've broken so many of their traditional molds, right?
00:46 This is sort of the last one.
00:47 This is sort of the last thing that they could do that they typically don't do.
00:52 Right.
00:53 And you know, there are extenuating circumstances here, extenuating
00:57 circumstances oftentimes involve you doing things you don't want to do.
01:02 You never want to part with draft capital.
01:04 You don't want to have to make trades, but the extenuating circumstances to
01:09 me involve the Bengals having a legitimate chance to win the title this year.
01:13 Uh, at the same time, they're falling behind the rest of the pack in the AFC North.
01:18 They can't afford to wait anymore.
01:19 The schedule gets really tough.
01:21 You can't simply hope that Irv Smith develops trust with Joe
01:25 Burrow that hasn't materialized.
01:27 You can't simply hope that somebody else fills the Samaj AP Ryan role
01:31 that could be filled by Samaj AP Ryan.
01:34 You simply can't hope that Joe Mixon at the usage rate that they're, uh,
01:39 deploying him with is, is going to stay healthy and suddenly find this
01:43 burst of productivity that we haven't seen in such a long time.
01:46 And so, no, I think, I think the idea of, well, let's not talk about
01:51 trades because it's not what they do.
01:52 Well, we've lauded this franchise in many respects for all the
01:56 different ways in which it's evolved.
01:58 So then I'm led to think that it's okay to push for them to evolve even more.
02:03 Especially given how the league has changed.
02:06 Look, 10 years ago, the Bengals were like everybody else.
02:09 Nobody made trades.
02:10 We've seen a bunch already here before the deadline.
02:13 We saw the Philadelphia Eagles, less than 24 hours after beating a good
02:17 Miami team, trade away a guy who played every defensive snap the night before.
02:22 In order to make an upgrade at the position, we've seen the Kansas city
02:25 chiefs make the sort of trade that the Bengals I think could make for Samaj AP
02:30 Ryan, if you want him back and bring him back McCall Hardman, by the way, Kansas
02:34 city is in better shape than Cincinnati.
02:36 They were five and one at the time of the deal.
02:37 And they went and swapped picks to get a guy who they really didn't have
02:41 to reteach the system or anything.
02:43 You're seeing more and more trades in this league.
02:45 I think you had James, you probably know this better than I do, or there are like
02:49 30 players who changed teams during the season last year.
02:51 Yeah.
02:52 It's a lot, right?
02:54 It's a tactic that more and more teams are using.
02:56 Why shouldn't we push the Bengals to continue to evolve and be one of those
03:00 teams when they have bona fide super bowl aspirations
