Zac Taylor on How San Francisco 49ers Evolution Helped Cincinnati Bengals
Transcript
00:00 It kind of brings up an interesting point.
00:01 I was in LA in 2017 when Shanahan got to the 49ers.
00:07 And so you got a chance to see their evolution
00:10 of their systems.
00:11 And the first year, I know they had quarterback injuries
00:16 and stuff the first two years.
00:17 And then the third year, they went to the Super Bowl.
00:19 And so I remember showing our guys in 2020
00:24 kind of the evolution of San Francisco.
00:26 The first year, they were just-- they were learning the system.
00:29 And you could tell at times guys were learning.
00:32 And some of the crispness maybe wasn't there.
00:35 The second year, it really ramped up.
00:36 And then I showed clips of their Super Bowl game
00:38 against Kansas City of just why they were in the Super Bowl.
00:42 Just the attention to detail, everything was so good.
00:46 And just, hey, this is part of our process.
00:48 Our first year, we weren't very good.
00:50 Our attention to detail wasn't great.
00:52 Our level of coaching a lot of times wasn't great.
00:54 2020, we made some progress.
00:57 And then here's the step we got to make in 2021.
00:59 And there's a path here.
01:00 There's a pathway that San Francisco
01:02 has kind of shown people how it can occur.
01:04 And sure enough, maybe somebody out there
01:06 was showing clips of our Super Bowl game in year three.
01:10 So I've always looked at San Francisco
01:12 as a good template of how you can build
01:15 and you can continue to evolve and get
01:17 to where you want to be and then maintain
01:19 that level of consistency.
01:20 And they've really been the standard of that.
01:21 They've maintained that level of consistency
01:23 now since 2019 all the way through.
01:26 They've played in Super Bowls and championship games.
01:28 And really, really done a really good job there with John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan.
