00:00 I'm Oli Davis, this is the WrestleTalk News.
00:09 Wrestling has been full of debuts recently.
00:11 Adam Edge Copeland jumping ship to AEW, J Cargill jumping ship to WWE, and ex-AEW star
00:17 Brian Pillman Jr wrestling his first WWE match on the Tuesday 24th episode of NXT.
00:23 But the biggest wrestling debut of 2024 has actually gone down in France.
00:29 White Rock.
00:33 Or Blanc Rock, as they say over there.
00:35 The Grands Vents Museum in Paris unveiled their interpretation of Rock 'The Dwayne'
00:39 Johnson, announcing him as "1.96m tall and weighs 119kg" and also "Caucasian".
00:47 The museum's website admitted Dwayne Johnson presented "many challenges".
00:52 The eyes of Dwayne Johnson's waxwork had to be redone three times to avoid too dark
00:57 a tint, making the star's face too hard and erasing "it's warm" aspect.
01:01 Yep, you certainly avoided making him too dark.
01:06 The Dwayne himself has shared James Jefferson's roast of the waxwork online, who observes
01:11 "It look like the Rock ain't never seen the sun in a day.
01:14 It look like the Rock about to be part of the Royal Family."
01:16 Johnson added "For the record, I'm going to have my team reach out to our friends at
01:20 Gravant Museum in Paris, France.
01:22 FRENCH FLAG EMOJI.
01:24 So we can work at updating my wax figure here with some important details and improvements.
01:29 Starting with my skin colour.
01:30 And next time I'm in Paris, I'll stop in and have a drink with myself."
01:35 Am I the only one thinking all Johnson's statues should be carved out of rock?
01:38 It's right there!
01:40 White Rock will have to wait and see about his next WWE contract, though, as the company
01:44 is set for a very interesting next year.
01:47 All Elite Wrestling officially announced it was actually a thing in January 2019, with
01:52 an initial roster that included them very big names Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega, The Young
01:56 Bucks and Chris Jericho.
01:59 As the year went on, with the promotion's first pay-per-view Double or Nothing adding
02:02 Jon Moxley in May, and a weekly Network TV deal secured for that October, WWE initiated
02:08 a strategic response - signing up as many wrestling talents as possible to ridiculously
02:13 long deals.
02:14 I think the Miz's contract is on par with some Scientology ones.
02:18 It's like a thousand years.
02:20 This included locking down as many wrestlers as they could, paying much higher rates to
02:24 everyone from AJ Styles to Jinder Mahal.
02:27 The Good Brothers of Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, for instance, reportedly signed
02:31 contracts worth more than half a million dollars a year, in deals at the time PWInsider described
02:37 as "ridiculously amazing".
02:39 This was likely to stop AJ, Gallows and Anderson debuting for AEW on the first ever episode
02:45 of Dynamite as planned.
02:47 So we got Jake Hager instead.
02:49 We've got an AJ Styles at home.
02:51 Not that contracts with Vince McMahon are worth anything, though, because he released
02:54 Gallows and Anderson practically as soon as the pandemic hit.
02:58 They returned to WWE under Triple H two years later.
03:00 But these lucrative big money deals did come with a catch.
03:04 Their multi-year durations.
03:06 Often between three to five years.
03:07 For the first time in two decades, WWE had a competitor in AEW that could rival their
03:13 own deep pockets for talent.
03:15 And with each round of negotiations likely ramping up wrestlers' prices even more,
03:20 they wanted to lock each one into the same pay for as long as possible.
03:24 But WWE's strategy first laid out in 2019 could only last so long, and it's set to
03:29 run out imminently.
03:31 With the longest reported contract lengths at five years, with a mixture of some five
03:35 year deals from the outset, while others had three year plus a two year extension, a number
03:40 of huge WWE names are potentially up for grabs in 2024.
03:45 Wrestlers talking about their own contracts in interviews are thought to include AJ Styles,
03:50 Seth Rollins, Rey Mysterio, Alexa Bliss, Drew McIntyre, Becky Lynch, Ricochet, The Whole
03:56 New Day, The Usos, Wade Barrett, Sheamus, The Street Profits, Randy Orton, Sami Zayn
04:03 and Kevin Owens.
04:04 If we look at the AEW roster, however, there are far fewer contracts set to expire over
04:09 the next year - the only reported names being Tony Schiavone, Andrade, Bryan Danielson and
04:15 Dustin Rhodes.
04:16 This is because AEW were able to sign new deals with their biggest stars months ago,
04:21 securing Kenny Omega, The Bucks and Hangman Page through to at least 2027.
04:26 And this is me taking a very educated guess here, agreeing new terms with MJF ages ago,
04:31 despite him saying his contract runs out in 2024 too.
04:35 So why is AEW's a far more secure roster position over WWE right now?
04:40 The answer goes to the very top.
04:44 No, more to the top.
04:46 No, even more to the top than that.
04:50 No, that was a storyline, that doesn't actually count in the overall organigram of ownership.
04:55 More to the top.
04:56 Yes, it's the bossiest of business bosses, WWE's new parent company, Endeavor.
05:03 Fightful Select is reporting that while many top WWE stars have their contracts expiring
05:08 next year, they haven't been approached with discussions to renew their deals.
05:12 The only negotiations that have taken place, which you'd assume are the Drew McIntyre
05:17 and LA Knight discussions already reported, only happened because the talent approached
05:21 management directly, not the other way around.
05:24 Very interestingly, both McIntyre and Knight are reportedly "very far apart on money",
05:30 a concerning sign if talent is expecting similar raises on their current deals, in line with
05:34 WWE's consistently increasing high annual revenue.
05:38 Dave Meltzer described McIntyre's recent negotiations, for instance, as "just a numbers
05:43 game.
05:44 He wants a certain number, and they did not offer that certain number."
05:47 But although his contract is up in April because of time added due to injury, he's not a
05:51 guy who's looking to leave.
05:53 Because it seems, for a change under Triple H, WWE's top talent are far more satisfied
05:58 creatively as they have been in the past, and backstage morale is the highest it's
06:03 been for ages.
06:04 I wonder why that is?
06:05 But with the new owner's endeavour, many wrestlers' futures might come down to whether
06:09 their new corporate overlords see higher money deals as a good business investment.
06:14 Fightful adds many wrestlers believe they haven't been approached about negotiations
06:18 because WWE was waiting for their merger with the UFC into TKO holdings to complete.
06:24 But that concluded over a month ago now, on September 14th.
06:28 Triple talent are reportedly waiting to find out what offers will look like under the new
06:32 company - which could be higher, lower or on par with what they're currently making.
06:36 You'd expect that if it's the 'on par' or 'lower' figures, they'd at least
06:40 entertain discussions with AEW.
06:43 If Endeavour's ownership of the UFC is anything to go by, it doesn't look optimistic.
06:48 Fighter pay has been an ongoing criticism of the MMA promotion for over a decade, with
06:52 critics claiming the UFC only shares 16% of its revenue with its fighters - a number UFC
06:58 does dispute - whereas many fighters believe it should be half, which is more in line with
07:02 other large sports organisations like the NFL.
07:05 This is as the UFC is also having increasingly higher earning years, just like WWE.
07:10 Who in WWE do you think is most likely to entertain offers from AEW?
07:14 Give me some Jinder Mahal is All Elite graphics in the comments below.
07:44 NXT's Halloween Havoc Night One saw two huge
08:14 title changes, with Chase Hugh finally beating The Family to become the new NXT Tag Team
08:19 Champions and Becky Lynch shockingly dropping the NXT Women's Championship in the main
08:24 event.
08:25 Becky Lynch to AEW confirmed.
08:26 It was Lyra of Alkiria who dethroned The Man, instantly dating mine and Luke's Becky NXT
08:30 predictions for our Crown Jewel three count that goes out on Friday.
08:34 I'm so happy for you, Lyra.
08:35 Let me ever think of our content.
08:37 But here's the whole show's happenings in one minute, one take.
08:41 Shotzi provided instant Nightmare Fuel, dressed as Pinhead to open the Halloween themed show.
08:46 Roxanne Perez beat Keanu James in a Hardcore Devils Playground match, which included a
08:50 picket fence as a weapon.
08:51 A more heelish Carmelo says he's got to go through Trick Williams to get another title
08:55 shot, and he didn't attack him.
08:58 AEW's Brian Pillman Jr made his in-ring debut as Lexus King, beating Dante Chen.
09:03 Lola Vice beat Carmen Petrovic, and Kalani Jordan beat Ariana Grace in the breakout semifinals.
09:08 Wagner and Mr Stone are friends again - usually means someone's turning heel.
09:13 Chase Yu beat Tony D'Angelo and Stax to win the tag titles after Chase refused to
09:17 cheat.
09:18 Nathan Frazier says he's going to take Dom Dom's North American title.
09:20 Blair Davenport beat Gigi Dolan with more weapons.
09:23 Tiffany Stratton and Fallon Henley brawled.
09:25 The women of Chase Yu set up a women's tag team title shot.
09:28 Akira Tozawa has stolen Noam Dar's Heritage Cup.
09:30 And Valkyria beat Lynch in a great main event as Jade Cargill watched from the stage on
09:36 the platform with two security guards.
09:39 Mmmmm, I'm so good at that.
09:41 But for now, what are the 10 greatest midcard championship reigns ever?
09:44 Watch on to find out.
