00:00 The U.S. made Stinger missiles is a portable air defense system capable of shooting down
00:05 aircraft and incoming rockets.
00:08 The missiles are seen as an important part of Taiwan's defense against an invasion by
00:13 China because they're relatively cheap, mobile, and can take down hardware worth hundreds
00:19 of times what a single missile costs.
00:23 But it's not just the military that's interested in Stingers.
00:27 In March, authorities raided the warehouse of a criminal gang and found a used Stinger
00:31 missile pod along with thousands of rounds of small arms ammunition.
00:36 An investigation traced the equipment back to a Marine Corps brigade in Taoyuan in northern
00:41 Taiwan.
00:43 Authorities have identified five suspects in the case and called them in for questioning.
00:48 Four are military officers.
00:49 "After questioning, one of the defendants handed over 100,000 NT dollars, and the rest
00:58 of the defendants were charged with violating the Criminal Crimes Act and filed a complaint
01:04 to the Taoyuan local court."
01:05 The Marine Corps has confirmed that the discovered pod is part of a Stinger missile system.
01:10 It says it will fully cooperate with the prosecutor's investigation and severely punish anyone found
01:16 responsible.
