Former President Tsai Speaks at Human Rights Forum in Prague
Taiwan's former President Tsai Ing-wen has addressed a human rights forum in Prague on a weeklong visit to Europe, her first overseas trip since leaving office. She urged democracies to come together and support one another.

00:13Tiffany, what do we know about her talk today?
00:17Hi Yvonne, well former president Tsai Ing-wen just finished up her speech at the Forum 2000,
00:25that's a human rights and democracy forum in Prague.
00:28And she spoke about how democracies around the world need to come together and support
00:33each other.
00:34Now this was her first time attending the forum in person, but it was actually her fourth
00:37time speaking at it.
00:39And during her two terms as president of Taiwan, President Tsai actually lost quite a few diplomatic
00:46allies during that time, but she also worked hard to further the country's relations through
00:51unofficial means, especially with European and Southeast Asian countries.
00:56Now although she's no longer president, it seems that she might be using trips like these
01:00to try and continue to play a role in Taiwan's foreign diplomacy.
01:05And next she's expected to be headed to Brussels, where she'll meet with the European Parliament
01:10there.
01:11And that will be a meeting that Beijing watches closely for any signs of shifting policy from
01:15the EU to Taiwan.
