Former UST Lady Spiker gets crack at PVL after 4 yrs

KungFu Reyes says he's glad his former UST player Dimdim Pacres has been given the chance to play at the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) after being off it for the last four years for either failing to make the cut with the teams she tried out for or for joining those that did not pursue their PVL participation. Pacres was signed up by newcomer Galeries Tower Highrisers and made her pro debut against Petro Gazz on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023. She put up her best game against Chery Tiggo, where Reyes is an assistant coach. Pacres notched 11 points for the Galeries who lost to the Crossovers, 14-25, 15-25, 21-25, at the FilOil EcoOil Center on Thursday, October 19.

00:00 What did you tell the players when Dim Dim was having a hard time with the third set?
00:04 Dim Dim was just waiting to read.
00:09 Well, literally, physically, Dim Dim was prepared.
00:15 His instinct, his determination to move, to lead, that's what's missing in his body.
00:25 We told him to read well, because anytime he can.
00:30 Like in the third set, he lost a lot of energy.
00:34 That's where his being a boom pack press is.
00:41 Coach, you know a lot of former players who are at this level.
00:45 But as a coach, what's the feeling when you see them achieve their dreams and succeed in life?
00:53 Of course, when they become a mentor, a coach,
00:59 you feel happy when you see the kids who started and worked hard.
01:05 At the end, you know, there's the good and bad.
01:10 That's where all their sacrifices come from.
01:16 They're tired, they're sweaty, they're physically tired, they're injured.
01:24 But at least they're still playing, doing what they want to do.
01:31 They're learning for their families and for themselves.
01:36 That's what we want from all coaches.
01:39 The players are getting better.
01:42 We're very glad that they're here.
01:45 Coach, you mentioned earlier that you're one of the people who motivated Dim Dim.
01:49 He's still not a pro. How did you motivate him to watch this?
01:56 Dim Dim and I have a constant communication.
02:01 I was just alarmed when...
02:04 I think EJ O'Aeon called me and said, "Dim Dim, your coach is on a double."
02:14 I was like, "Who?"
02:16 Because I haven't played for a while.
02:20 I took care of myself.
02:23 In a way, I'm not playing.
02:27 You know how it hurts, especially in that kind of situation.
02:32 At least you won, you're not in pain, you're okay.
02:36 But you're letting yourself go.
02:40 You're not in a good mood, you're depressed because of the pandemic.
02:44 You're not able to finish your life.
02:47 Especially when the CPB started again, and the ball is coming back.
02:52 If you don't get anything, you're just going to end up in a big trouble.
02:56 You just have to have a lot of discipline.
02:59 Really, if you want to be kind, you have to be a bit strict.
03:03 Because we're really at our limits.
03:08 We're at our limit.
03:10 And that's it.
03:13 You have to be patient, you have to be patient.
03:17 You have to be patient.
03:20 But at least he's here.
03:23 You'll see that he's here.
03:26 It's not like you can get what you want right away.
03:29 But one step at a time, you'll get there.
03:33 That's what I did, and I'm proud of it.
