00:00 Welcome to the WrestleTalk News, I'm Pete Quinnell.
00:09 Last week it was reported that Vince McMahon had essentially been taken off his creative
00:12 duties in WWE, which you'd have seen if you'd have been watching WWE with Triple
00:17 H's fingerprints all over shows as of late.
00:19 Like for example, Gunther vs. Bronson Reed on last night's Raw.
00:23 Meat.
00:24 And while it had been speculated upon as to why this was the case, there's now reports
00:28 confirming what much of the speculation pointed to - that being Vince's new boss, Ari Emanuel.
00:33 According to Sports Illustrated, Emanuel thinks that the company runs most effectively when
00:37 people are allowed to do their assigned roles, and as Triple H's chief content officer,
00:41 Emanuel thinks he should be allowed to do his job without interference.
00:45 And as such, Emanuel reportedly called for Vince to stop doing week-to-week creative
00:49 in WWE.
00:50 It's always worth noting of course that Vince has a reported "ironclad" contract,
00:54 so he's not going anywhere just yet, and is focused on securing TV rights for Raw and
00:58 NXT currently.
00:59 But there is also speculation that Vince could see this move as a loss of leverage on his
01:03 part and his reaction to the news could be telling.
01:06 But aside from the superficial reason of "you should let Triple H do his job, Vince",
01:09 why exactly did Ari Emanuel make the call to take Vince off creative?
01:13 Well interestingly, when WWE announced their new deal for SmackDown to head to the USA
01:17 Network, WWE's stock price actually dropped instead of increasing.
01:21 Despite the deal being a 40% increase on SmackDown's deal with Fox in 2019, Wall Street reportedly
01:25 expected an even bigger increase, hence the stock price drop.
01:29 Ari Emanuel spoke at Bloomberg's Screen Time conference where he actually blamed Vince
01:33 McMahon for the stock price drop.
01:35 "I think there's three things that happened.
01:37 One, the reason the stock is down is they thought Raw was the best package.
01:40 Two, the PFL situation.
01:42 And three, probably Vince McMahon in our deal, wanted to be able to put, at any point in
01:47 time, his stock.
01:48 He's 78 years old, he's been working at this for decades and decades, so I think
01:52 those three back-to-back issues."
01:54 Vince being able to at any point sell all of his stock if he wanted to is apparently
01:58 what Emanuel is talking about here, meaning it would always be an unstable position for
02:02 WWE's stock.
02:03 But it is very interesting that for years and years, Vince McMahon has always tried
02:08 to make a scapegoat out of someone or something as to why stock prices aren't as high as
02:12 they should have been, or why viewership isn't as good as it once was, and now the shoe is
02:16 on the other foot.
02:17 In other news, speculation is still rife with who Roman Reigns could be facing when next
02:21 year's WrestleMania rolls around, straight after this year's Mania after Cody Rhodes
02:25 lost in the main event against Roman Reigns, which I'm still totally fine with.
02:32 It was reported that Rhodes was planned for the main event of Mania 40 in a rematch with
02:36 Reigns.
02:37 However, as we know in WWE, plans can always change, and with the meteoric rise of LA Knight
02:43 and a potential Rock floating around, is there a chance that Rhodes' position could be
02:47 taken?
02:48 Rock even mentioned recently on the Pat McAfee show that at one point him vs. Roman was locked
02:52 in but didn't materialise in the end.
02:53 So would WWE pull out all the stops for one of the big decade milestones at the show of
02:58 shows?
02:59 No, not according to Sports Illustrated anyway, who said that after speaking with multiple
03:03 sources close to WWE, the decision about WrestleMania will not be Rock's to make, and that there
03:08 are currently no plans for this match to happen.
03:11 They also mentioned that unless something drastically changes in the next few months,
03:15 that spot is reserved for Cody Rhodes.
03:17 Even with LA Knight being thrust up the card, Sports Illustrated reports that he'd need
03:21 a Becky Lynch or Daniel Bryan level of groundswell support in order for those plans to change,
03:26 as right now he's a stepping stone for Roman to get to WrestleMania.
03:29 So the new plan, is the old plan.
03:32 Good to know. and now a special message from Turbo Jack.

05:00 Do you think they're still open to the old contract thing?
05:06 I mean you used the word tampering, not me, I never used the word contract tampering.
05:11 Look, I'm just saying, Steve is saying that he wants to come over here and spill a pint
05:15 on me in the pub.
05:16 I'm not sure about Larson, Larson doesn't seem all that into the idea of coming across
05:20 to the UK and beating me up, but his arms are massive and he scares me a little bit.
05:24 So I think we should just try and be friendly with them.
05:26 So let's talk about the contract thing.
05:29 Again Kenneth, you're using the word tampering, not me.
05:32 That is not a word that I've used.
05:34 Sorry, sorry, sorry my producer's calling me.
05:37 What?
05:38 We're what?
05:40 Oh, oh, um, yeah.
05:46 Now it's time for my review of Monday Night Raw, aka the Get a Better Crowd Oklahoma edition
05:51 of Monday Night Raw, in about 5 minutes.
05:54 I'll call you back.
05:56 The show opened with the now solo Sami Zayn who came out for a promo with mixed emotions.
06:01 He's happy for Kevin Owens getting a chance on Smackdown, but it does mean that he can't
06:05 work with him to get back those titles.
06:07 The titles being held by the man he originally won them off Jey Uso.
06:11 He also laid out aspirations of being World Heavyweight Champion.
06:16 As a season opener of Raw, this is a strong one.
06:19 It sets out a new stall for Sami Zayn.
06:21 Something fresh, something different, something oh no wait here comes the Judgment Day.
06:25 Yep, it's the same Raw as last week.
06:28 And the week before that.
06:29 They did their usual Judgment Day promo and Jey Uso ran down to make the save.
06:33 Sami looked at Jey, conflicted, and walked away.
06:36 He later confronted Jey about this and said that he appreciates the help, but it should
06:40 be Kevin Owens standing by his side and he's no longer there because of Jey.
06:46 Jey walked away, but Sami chased after him to apologise.
06:49 A season premiere episode of Raw brought us fresh and new match-ups like…
06:54 Ricochet vs. Shinsuke Nakamura.
06:55 I'm being glib for the sake of comedy as this was an extremely fun Force Count Anywhere
07:00 match and probably the best thing on the whole show that didn't involve Gunther.
07:03 The two brawled everywhere, including the gorilla position, and saw Ricochet do an insane
07:08 Shooting Star Press off the balcony onto Nakamura.
07:11 It was a very indie show-like spot and the crowd loved it.
07:15 Nakamura finally put Ricochet through a table and hit the Kinshasa for the win.
07:19 A very good match.
07:21 All the Raw women stood in a row to remind us that Tegan Nox is friends with Natalya
07:26 who then lost to Piper Niven in a short and totally fine match.
07:28 The heels beat Natty down for a bit and Tegan made the save.
07:31 Seth Rollins, dressed like Scott Summers if he was an even bigger prick than he normally
07:35 is, had a promo segment with Drew McIntyre to ask why he was conversing with Rhea Ripley
07:40 last week in a backstage shot I totally missed until it was pointed out to me by Dan Layton
07:44 on the WrestleTalk Podcast - with Seth theorising that Drew is afraid of failure.
07:49 So much so that he's turning to the Judgment Day so he won't fail again.
07:54 Drew brought up losing his last title match because of the Bloodline, to which Seth told
07:58 him "get over the Bloodline" and Drew fired up by saying that he beat Brock Lesnar
08:02 in front of no one and carried the company when no one was there to see it.
08:06 The first chance he got to carry this company again, this time in front of those fans, was
08:11 taken away from him because of the Bloodline.
08:14 So yeah, I don't think he'll be getting over that any time soon.
08:18 Seth responded by saying that he worked four years to claw back to the top and he made
08:24 it, but Drew can't because he's too busy pointing fingers and blaming others.
08:28 But when Rollins beats Drew at Crown Jewel, he'll have no one to blame but himself.
08:33 This was excellent.
08:35 A really effective promo segment to hype up a title match that lays out everyone's character
08:40 motivations as well as furthering that slow Bill Drew turn.
08:44 I cannot say enough good things about this segment.
08:49 And it was the last good segment on this show for a little while.
08:52 Because the crowd totally died out for Ludwig Kaiser vs. Johnny Gargano not helped by a
08:56 duff finish.
08:57 Kaiser and Vince had a small argument which led to Gargano hitting his slingshot DDT for
09:01 the win, but Vince raked the eyes of Johnny Gargano while he was in the pin right in front
09:08 of the referee staring at him.
09:10 This was somehow not a DQ, then Gargano distracted himself into Kaiser winning the match.
09:15 A bad finish to an okay match with a dead crowd.
09:18 The crowd were also dead for Ripley taking on Shayna Baszler, which is both surprising
09:21 and a shame.
09:22 Nia Jax ran down but Raquel Rodriguez brawled with her, Zoey Stark then appeared from out
09:27 of nowhere and brawled with Nia.
09:28 She then got in the ring and gave Rhea the dinkiest little kick you've ever seen for
09:32 a super lame DQ.
09:35 Absolutely f***ing rubbish.
09:37 They all brawled afterwards and Stark stood tall.
09:39 Adam Pearce later made a fatal 5-way for Crown Jewel, and Ripley had a stare down with Jade
09:44 Cargill who got a really big pop from the crowd - and making her look like a star from
09:48 the outset is really, really paying off.
09:51 Thankfully Bronson Reed and Gunther brought us back on track and woke this crowd up.
09:55 This was another tremendous Gunther title defence and he won with an excellent powerbomb.
10:00 The crowd really picked up for this match by the end.
10:02 Jackie tried to interview The Miz but he got Baron Corbined when Nia Jax stole his interview
10:06 time and Alpha Academy set up a tag match with New Day for next week.
10:10 Tazawa did a little dance.
10:11 And the main event saw the Judgment Day recapture the tag titles when Jimmy Uso stopped Jey
10:16 Uso from making a one-man comeback.
10:17 With not a lot of time left on the show, they basically just did the final third of a normal
10:22 match for the whole match - including Don putting Priest's foot on the ropes, again
10:26 right in front of the referee, and Priest took Cody out by giving him the razor's
10:29 edge through the announcers table.
10:31 That's a lovely bit of dramatic irony.
10:33 Because Cody got Kevin Owens drafted, Owens wasn't there to back them up against the
10:38 Judgment Day, and now the Judgment Day hold all the gold again.
10:43 This was another very good edition of Monday Night Raw with a blousy half hour spell in
10:48 that second hour.
10:49 Still, this week's Raw is 4 out of 5.
10:51 That's all from me, go and check out the latest episode of Tables, Lists and Chairs
10:55 where we count down the top 10 worst WWE World Champions of all time.
