00:00 Welcome to the WrestleTalk News, I'm Pete Quinnell.
00:09 If you've been paying attention to the last few weeks of Raw in particular, you'd have
00:12 noticed some interesting things.
00:14 Gunther vs Tommaso Ciampa in the main event, the tag titles being more important than ever
00:18 in recent history, Tegan Nox being back on our screens, Johnny Gargano returning to reunite
00:22 DIY… these don't seem like Vince McMahon booking decisions, do they?
00:27 Well there may be a reason for that.
00:30 PWInsider originally reported that the word going around backstage in WWE was that Vince
00:34 McMahon was no longer involved creatively in the company.
00:37 The reported belief among wrestlers was that Endeavor had knighted Triple H to run creative
00:41 and he'll be responsible for 99.9% of it going forward.
00:45 It's worth noting that this was not confirmed, but is what the wrestlers believe to be true.
00:49 Fightful Select then had a follow-up report, noting a boost in morale backstage.
00:53 Vince McMahon reportedly over the last few months never sat in on creative meetings but
00:57 sent remote changes, often close to the show's airtime.
01:00 However over these last few weeks, those last minute changes have essentially stopped, aside
01:05 from last minute changes due to medical reasons.
01:07 This doesn't necessarily mean that Vince is out "for good" because he was out "for
01:11 good" when he retired last year, and look how that one turned out.
01:14 However, things are different now, in a post-merger world.
01:18 This isn't Vince's call anymore.
01:19 Sean Ross Sapp had some interesting speculation on the Fightful post-Raw show where he took
01:23 a guess at what he thought could be happening here.
01:26 Let's paint a potential picture, as I paraphrase Sean's words.
01:30 "Vince McMahon never wanted to leave.
01:32 He thought he was bulletproof but was forced to, so he 'retired.'
01:36 He then found the one deal, the merger, that would allow him to come back, but everybody
01:40 else around him knows that WWE is better off creatively and financially without him."
01:45 So yes, Ari Emanuel allowed Vince to return to the fold, but now the merger is done and
01:50 sorted, Vince is being taken off of the creative side of things to allow WWE to flourish, and
01:55 so Vince can remain as a figurehead.
01:57 He's nothing more than a relic, a statue in the corner.
02:00 He's effectively an all but job title been removed from WWE.
02:05 Again, all speculation, but educated speculation.
02:09 Which means now, with Vince's lack of overall voting power, this could genuinely actually
02:14 be the end of Vince McMahon in WWE Creative.
02:18 But much like the wrestlers mentioned in Fightful's report, I'll believe it when I see it.
02:22 Now today is Tuesday, the 10th of October, 2023, and lots of important things are happening
02:27 today.
02:28 It's Tempest's birthday, it's Tony Khan's birthday, it's NXT, and it's Dynamite.
02:33 This past week in wrestling news has been talking about the insane lengths both shows
02:37 are going to to stack the deck and make sure they win in the ratings war.
02:41 It's insane, and I love it.
02:43 NXT will feature John Cena, Paul Heyman, Asuka, Cody Rhodes making an announcement,
02:49 and a teased appearance from The Undertaker.
02:51 Which is already bonkers itself, but just to add insult to injury, it was then announced
02:56 that the first 30 minutes of NXT tonight will also be commercial free.
03:01 I'm sure Tony Khan took this reasonably-oh, no wait, he went on a tirade it seems.
03:06 Tony Khan responded in kind by announcing that AEW Dynamite's first 30 minutes are
03:10 also going to be commercial free.
03:13 Anything WWE can do, TK can also do.
03:16 But it didn't end there, because TK then announced a 30 minute buy-in show before Dynamite,
03:21 which would also feature Eddie Kingston vs. Minoru Suzuki for the Ring of Honor and New
03:26 Japan strong titles, and Fightful confirmed that Dynamite also secured a 10 minute overrun
03:32 for their show tonight.
03:34 Wrestling is absolutely wild, and I'm so here for it.
03:38 TK also had some fun tweeting like a madman through the night last night, including tweeting
03:42 this gif.
03:45 Subtle Tony.
03:46 He also called out a fan who said he wasn't going to watch with a gif of Roddy Strong
03:49 saying "who gives a f***".
03:51 And when others complained about him tweeting it, saying that if Vince did something like
03:54 this AEW fans would be furious and crying, TK responded to them saying "if Sir Vince
03:59 McMahon said this, it would be the least of his alleged misdeeds".
04:03 At this point, I'm convinced Tony Schiavone is just going to start spoiling the main event
04:06 of NXT when Dynamite starts tonight.
04:08 Now have fun tonight everybody, and enjoy wrestling.
04:12 Now over to Luke for the Raw review.
04:14 Well thank you for that little bit of news, but before we get into the Raw review, it's
04:17 time to hear about another potential match of the year candidate with a Spotify Premium
04:23 member Mark Markison.
04:25 That's interesting Mark, what's your favourite album of all time?
04:28 Oh I don't have time to listen to music, I have wrestling to watch.
04:31 But I mean, you do stuff outside of this, right?
04:34 Like you have downtime, surely you do other things.
04:36 Here's where you're going wrong Luke, you see if you're a real fan of wrestling, you
04:39 watch every single show, otherwise you don't deserve an opinion.
04:42 The best wrestling this week came from the final of Stardom's 5 star Grand Prix between
04:46 Maika and Suzu Suzuki.
04:48 Now I read on the internet that nobody cares about women's wrestling, and that's a shame,
04:52 because the women in this match delivered 15 minutes of breakneck combat.
04:55 After brawling on the outside for a while, they squared up and each pointed at the ring
04:58 agreeing that they were too good for this to end anywhere other than the mat, and they
05:02 proved it, as they wrestled a superb, even match that barely stopped for breath.
05:07 Their chemistry was perfect, their moves were crisp and tight, snap German here, poison
05:11 rana there.
05:12 The narrative within it was superb too, using their momentum against each other.
05:15 As the clock ran down, Maika went for this unbelievable avalanche suplex, only to roll
05:19 through and hit a three amigos.
05:21 It was just stunning.
05:23 But it was Suzuki who climbed to the top rope and hit her Sky Twister press to score the
05:28 three.
05:29 Breathtaking, outstanding, it's almost impossible to give this match a high enough rating.
05:34 But what give a mark you have to?
05:37 Like that's why you're here, is to give us star ratings.
05:40 It was really good.
05:42 Yeah, I get that, but like, you've got one job, bud.
05:46 You need to give us a star rating here, mate.
05:48 What was I on?
05:49 I'm going to check.
05:50 It's better than last week, I can...
05:53 It's worth 25, was where you were on last time.
05:55 So 25.
05:56 Well, I'll leave it to fate.
05:57 The match was so good, I'll leave it up to fate then.
05:59 So 25 plus three, 28 stars.
06:06 I don't know what his qualifications are, really.
06:10 Where did you find him?
06:13 Really?
06:14 Surprising.
06:15 Honestly, I can't believe that accent is fake.
06:19 But anyway, it's now time for my review of Monday Night Raw, aka the - he's gone,
06:24 right?
06:25 For sure?
06:26 He's gone this time?
06:27 - edition of Monday Night Raw, in about 5 minutes.
06:30 The show opened with Seth Rollins coming out to celebrate his World Championship defence
06:33 at Fastlane, teasing the idea that he was going to have to relinquish the title due
06:38 to his ouchie back, but revealed that he's just getting started.
06:41 The crowd enjoyed this bait and switch, but then booed him when he said he wanted a night
06:45 off.
06:46 I don't give a toss about your bad back, mate.
06:49 Do a stomp.
06:50 Drew McIntyre came out to challenge Seth for a match for the title - not tonight, not next
06:54 week, but when Seth is 100% a crown jewel.
06:57 Seth accepted the challenge and continued his party before being attacked by Damian
07:02 Priest.
07:03 Drew watched on as Seth was being beaten down, but then stopped Dominik Mysterio from handing
07:06 Priest the briefcase to cash in, and Seth took Damian out later.
07:10 Seth asked Drew why he wouldn't help New Day but would help him, and Drew responded
07:15 - sensibly so - that he's only getting involved in other people's business when it's also
07:20 his business.
07:21 This is a great character beat for Drew, and one that I particularly enjoyed.
07:25 Damian Priest held up J.D. McDonough which looked like that one meme for a bit, and asked
07:29 him to take out Drew McIntyre later - spoilers for later in this review, that didn't go
07:33 well for J.D.
07:34 They also announced that Judgment Day will get a rematch against Cody Rhodes and Jey
07:38 Uso for the tag titles next week.
07:40 Speaking of things I enjoyed, Kofi Kingston took on Ivar of the Viking Raiders in a Viking
07:44 Rules match - but not before WWE successfully trolled me into thinking my broadcast had
07:49 gone wrong when Michael Cole and Wade Barrett were dubbed in French.
07:53 It was actually just a short promotional piece for Paris 2024, but it genuinely made me think
07:58 something had gone wrong.
07:59 Well played WWE, well played.
08:01 This match wasn't as good as their out of nowhere banger they had a couple of weeks
08:05 ago but it was still a hell of a lot of fun.
08:06 Valhalla got involved and Ivar squashed Woods against the barricade, and then hit Kofi with
08:11 the moonsault for the win.
08:12 Raquel Rodriguez and Nia Jax had a pretty standard Giant Test battle which wasn't
08:16 all that interesting, and then ended in a DQ which made it even less interesting.
08:20 Are we sure Vince is gone?
08:22 Rhea Ripley ran in and brawled before Shayna Baszler also ran in for more brawling.
08:26 She took out Ripley and stood tall.
08:27 The post-match was better than all the actual stuff bell to bell.
08:30 Later in the show Rhea demanded a match with Baszler which will happen next week.
08:33 Jey and Cody came out for a promo but were quickly interrupted by Kevin Owens and Sami
08:37 Zayn who came out to the wrong theme, someone tweet Matthew and let him know, and they set
08:42 up a tag match for later tonight with the titles on the line.
08:44 They laid down some groundwork for Cody still having his sights set on Roman finishing the
08:49 story with Cole even asking Cody about his dad.
08:52 But I am glad that they followed up on the Sami and KO grievances with Jey winning the
08:57 tag belt that they worked so hard to get off him at WrestleMania.
09:00 And if you didn't need any more confirmation that Triple H was for sure running all of
09:04 this broadcast, then check this out.
09:06 Ricochet, Bronson Reed and Chad Gable had a triple threat match to crown a new number
09:09 one contender to Gunther for next week.
09:12 This is proper MyGM booking, including spending that extra bit of money on a Nakamura run
09:16 in to grow that rivalry.
09:18 Earlier in the broadcast, Shinsuke Nakamura tried to cut a promo about his Fastlane loss
09:22 but was attacked by Ricochet.
09:23 Nakamura responded by attacking Ricochet during his entrance and laid him out with a GTS,
09:28 Hideo Itami WWE return confirmed.
09:30 They later announced that Ricochet will face Nakamura next week.
09:33 This was a great triple threat as you would expect, and the final few minutes were fantastic.
09:38 Gable hit Ricochet with a Chaos Theory suplex, but Reed pulled Ricochet out of the move then
09:42 slammed him into Gable.
09:44 He then hit the Tsunami for the win.
09:46 Superb stuff, and sets up a big meaty men slapping meat match for Gunther next week.
09:51 Becky Lynch promoted her new book and Xia Li walked up asking "what about her?"
09:56 What about Xia Li?
09:57 Good question, but what about her?
09:58 She hasn't had a match on Raw or Smackdown since March 24th when she teamed with Lacey
10:03 Evans of all people.
10:04 That was before WrestleMania.
10:06 But yeah, if you main event heads are around there I know she's been wrestling on that
10:09 show.
10:11 Not winning of course, she's even been beaten by Nikki Cross and Indi Hartwell.
10:14 So yeah, what about Xia Li?
10:16 But this is what Becky's NXT Women's Championship run should be giving us.
10:20 They're treating it like a mid-card women's title, and it's allowing for more women
10:24 to get on the show and show us what they can do.
10:27 Drew McIntyre destroyed JD McDonough in a handful of minutes in a match that you knew
10:31 wasn't going to go too long when Dom interfered and it did not lead to Raw rolling on.
10:35 The match just continued with no ad break, and Drew won.
10:38 Good stuff.
10:39 Wade Barrett interviewed DIY and they were attacked by Imperium.
10:42 Giovanni Vinci also got a 10/10 No-Nos video package later in the broadcast too.
10:46 It was so good.
10:47 Becky Lynch beat Tegan Nox to retain her NXT Women's Championship - a very good match.
10:51 Nox got a video package before, and this match did so much more to get her over than the
10:55 previous two weeks of two minute matches.
10:57 Sadly those short matches meant that this crowd never bought Nox as a genuine threat
11:01 to Bex and therefore didn't pop for any of her near falls, but Michael Cole did go
11:05 out of his way to put over this match and the idea of losing in defeat was all good
11:10 stuff.
11:11 Tegan was upset backstage and was consoled by Natalya.
11:13 The party girls walked up to start a row, and that row was completed by Chelsea Green
11:17 and Piper Niven to set up a match between Niven and Nattie for next week.
11:20 It's been a while since I've got to do this, but all together now, all the Raw women
11:25 standing in a row.
11:26 And the main event saw Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn - with correct music this time - having
11:30 a barnstormer of a tag match with Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso.
11:33 I really enjoyed the emotion of this match, as parts of it were just trying to wrestle
11:38 cordially and respectfully, but it kept boiling over into actual animosity fighting.
11:43 It was great.
11:44 And Cody and Jey won clean with a co-1D - which for my money is a better name than the Cody
11:48 1D.
11:49 And perhaps most surprisingly of all, Kevin Owens hugged Jey after the match and celebrated
11:53 with him.
11:54 They're friends now.
11:55 Friends.
11:56 And that was the show and what a fun time it was.
11:58 Everything they did hit by the Nia Jax match of course, and continued this hot streak for
12:02 WWE.
12:03 This week's show is 4 out of 5.
12:05 You think you know and have opinions on all the women's champions?
12:09 Well here's me and Pete reviewing every WWE Women's Champion in three words or less
12:13 few- sorry what?
12:14 What's up now?
12:15 Alright, come here.
12:16 What's wrong now?
12:17 No, you're not on the list.
12:18 Because you're not a- okay, I'll ask you a question.
12:29 Did you win the WWE Women's Championship or the Divas Championship?
12:33 Oh, I think that's a lie.
