Battersea Dogs and Cats Home has announced its veterinary hospital will be renamed after the charity's late ambassador Paul O’Grady. Following the TV and radio presenter’s death in March, Battersea set up a tribute fund in his honour which has raised £480,000 to date. The funds will be spent on life-saving medical procedures for dogs and cats needing specialist care and treatment. Five other animal charities close to O’Grady’s heart will receive £20,000 each, including The Oldies Club based in his home city of Liverpool. Report by Jonesia. 00:26 We were just overwhelmed at the outpouring of sympathy and support for Paul's passing.
00:32 Thousands upon thousands of cards and letters, but of course over 20,000 individual donations
00:38 that's resulted in this tribute fund of £480,000, which is just a staggering amount
00:44 and a real testament to Paul's legacy.

01:08 I cried, I'll be totally honest, I was so overwhelmed. He was such a genuine guy and to think that
01:18 his representatives knew how much dogs meant to him and old dogs in particular
01:25 and we're just so grateful that Battersea considered us.
01:29 As an example, vet bills for August alone were £29,000,
01:35 we're a small charity, we're all volunteers, all the money that we get comes from donations,
01:43 so this is just huge for us.

01:54 To be honest, a nightmare.
