00:00 Foreign Affairs Department, to the Filipinos in Gaza who fled after Israel announced the
00:07 intensified offensive against the Hamas militant group.
00:11 The DFA has now increased the alert level for Gaza.
00:14 This means mandatory repatriation or forced return to the Filipinos there.
00:20 The total number of Filipinos living in Gaza is 131.
00:25 According to the DFA, 78 of them are staying near the Rafah border near Egypt.
00:32 But the Filipinos who fled have not yet obtained an embassy in Jordan because the border between
00:38 the two countries has not yet opened.
00:39 So in Gaza, we have put it now under alert level 4, meaning mandatory repatriation.
00:46 What does this mean?
00:48 Well, of course, it doesn't mean that we can go in and just get them out of Gaza.
00:53 Nobody can go in and out so far.
00:58 It means when mandatory, we are telling you, please leave and we'll help you leave.
01:05 But if you cannot leave, or I'm sorry, if you don't want to leave, then, well, you are
01:12 there at your own risk.
01:14 We are hoping that they'd be able to cross into the Egypt border through the Rafah crossing.
01:19 There are nearly 78 already who are at the crossing.
01:24 The only question is, how long will they wait until they'll be able to enter Egypt?
01:31 The important thing is, from the Egypt side, our embassy is ready to pick them up and repatriate
01:37 them.
01:38 The Filipinos living in Gaza have fled from the northern part where the center of the
01:44 conflict is expected to be.
01:45 It is estimated that 1,300 people have died since the offensive against Israel began.
01:53 According to the International Committee of the Red Cross or ICRC, supply of water and
01:59 electricity in Gaza is now limited because many critical infrastructures have been damaged.
02:04 The Red Cross is worried that the situation in Gaza will worsen in the coming days.
02:09 Should the fighting continue to increase?
02:11 Should there be fighting on the ground?
02:14 The impact for civilians is going to be devastating.
02:17 And while the past days have seen extremely difficult scenes on both sides of the conflict,
02:25 nothing can justify the utter destruction of Gaza and the impact on civilians.
02:31 The Red Cross is appealing to Israel and Hamas to allow them and other humanitarian groups
02:37 to enter Gaza.
02:38 For now, they are having a hard time sending any kind of help there.
02:44 We need support from outside to be able to do it, but we also need the agreement of different
02:49 governments and different actors to be able to access Gaza and to be able to provide this
02:53 assistance.
02:54 We are ready to do this.
