00:00 One easy way for the Niners to mess this up
00:02 is to overuse Christian McCaffrey and get him hurt.
00:04 And I think when we see him get like 25, 27, 28 touches
00:07 in a game, we're like, "Why?
00:08 "You won by, it was such a big game.
00:09 "Why did you do this?
00:11 "What coach would wanna?"
00:13 So I asked Chris Forrester, you know,
00:15 "What do you think?"
00:16 And he sort of revealed like,
00:17 "Yeah, like Christian's hard to take off the field.
00:18 "He really won't come out."
00:20 It's like, "Oh, okay.
00:21 "So Christian McCaffrey wants to be the
00:23 "Office of Player of the Year.
00:24 "Got it, got it, got it."
00:26 What do you think of Christian McCaffrey's sort of
00:29 defying his coaches and saying,
00:32 "Look, I'll play as much as I want.
00:34 "Thank you."
00:35 - I feel like it's kind of normal for star players in a way.
00:38 'Cause so many times until I see them,
00:41 like even Diego Samuel or any player in any team,
00:44 unless they have like, they have like a massive run
00:48 or a big play, like a receiver or running back, whatever.
00:50 It was like 20 to 40 yards.
00:52 That unless they, they're waving.
00:55 They're the ones that kind of sub themselves off
00:57 because the coaches aren't going to be like,
00:59 "Yeah, it's a good idea to take one of our best players off."
01:02 Because I guess in a coach's mind,
01:03 they kind of sound like,
01:04 "Wait, that's the stupidest thing I could ever do."
01:07 And they don't see how long-term picture it is,
01:10 especially in that moment, especially that moment.
01:12 They don't see the future is irrelevant
01:14 because what matters is the now in that game.
01:17 So if Christian McCaffrey wants to go out there,
01:18 if they're trusting in him, they'd be like,
01:20 "Okay, he's not too gassed.
01:22 "He's not getting too beat up."
01:23 Then it's like, yeah.
01:24 But again, to me, it's just about, all right,
01:27 are you managing him well when it's close,
01:30 when it's games that you're blowing out towards the end?
01:32 Like last week was perfect.
01:33 Jordan Mason started getting carries
01:35 at the end of third quarter before that final touchdown.
01:37 And then they pretty much gave it away.
01:38 That was exactly what I want to see.
01:41 We talked about it, like, will they do that?
01:43 And it was perfect.
01:44 Yeah, French, yeah, chest kiss, beautiful.
01:47 And we got to see Jordan Mason ball out 6.9 yards per carry,
01:51 I believe.
01:51 And now it's like, okay,
01:52 maybe that gives you an opportunity to trust more in Mason
01:55 to spell McCaffrey after he makes those giant runs.
01:58 Because it doesn't look like McCaffrey
02:00 was really doing too hot.
02:02 Anyways, on the ground, he was averaging, what?
02:03 2.3 yards a carry?
02:05 That was pretty bad, but I guess it was to be expected.
02:07 So hopefully in this case,
02:08 you have more trust in your backup
02:09 and you can reel in McCaffrey a little bit more.
02:12 But to me, it's just ultimately,
02:13 as long as the games are out of reach,
02:14 you don't run them too much.
02:16 - I don't like Christian doing this.
02:18 I like Christian, but I don't like him doing this
02:21 for a few reasons.
02:22 It's not in the best interest of the team, okay?
02:24 It's not your call.
02:26 The coaches call.
02:27 Respect your coach and trust that they're doing it
02:30 in the best interest of the team.
02:32 It feels like a selfish move.
02:33 Like, I want to be out here.
02:35 I want accolades.
02:36 I want numbers.
02:37 I want the ball.
02:39 Give me the ball.
02:40 I feel like it's a little bit selfish.
02:42 Also, imagine you're Jordan Mason or Elijah Mitchell.
02:45 And the coach says, all right, Jordan,
02:46 I want you in the game.
02:47 It's your turn.
02:48 And you run on and Christian says, nah.
02:50 Like, you're in the same,
02:52 you're in the same meeting room.
02:53 You spend a lot of time with Christian.
02:56 You're supposed to like each other.
02:57 You're supposed to be teammates.
02:58 I would, would you not grow to resent the guy?
03:00 Like, hold on, man.
03:01 Can't I eat too?
03:02 Can I provide for my family as well?
03:04 Like, am I supposed to applaud you
03:07 when you tell me to go screw myself
03:08 and stand on the side?
03:09 Like, come on, man.
03:10 So I think it's kind of messed up.
03:13 And do it in a playoff game, man.
03:15 We call it, it'll be legendary
03:17 if you do it in the Super Bowl.
03:18 No, I'm staying in.
03:20 I want the ball.
03:21 And then he won the game.
03:23 Like, great.
03:23 It's October, man.
03:25 Chill, pace yourself.
03:25 It's October 13th.
03:26 It's my three quarter birthday.
03:30 How about that?
03:31 (laughs)
03:32 - Yeah.
03:33 I feel like,
03:34 I feel like if anything,
03:37 implementing more Mason behind McCaffrey
03:39 is gonna benefit McCaffrey himself.
03:42 'Cause that change of pace works well.
03:43 You get a little bit more energized
03:45 and it gives the defense a different look.
03:47 So it's not the same type of runner.
03:48 Mason's definitely more of a downhill,
03:50 I'll run you over.
03:51 And Mason also has-
03:52 - Thinner and lightning.
03:53 - Yes.
03:54 Perfectly thinner and lightning.
03:55 That's a perfect example.
03:56 And at least when you're McCaffrey,
03:57 it's like, okay, cool.
03:58 You got McCaffrey with, I mean,
03:59 Mason had two carries, you know,
04:01 for like seven yards, whatever.
04:03 Like he got, he bulldozed him a little bit.
04:05 McCaffrey, get in there,
04:05 be that speedster that I used to.
04:07 All of a sudden he breaks the seam,
04:08 goes for like 30.
04:10 That's really what you want.
04:11 You want less carries, but larger numbers.
04:13 You don't want to keep having like 25 carries
04:15 for like 60 yards.
04:17 That's becomes stupid at that point.
04:19 - Remember when the Giants had Tiki Barber and Ron Dane?
04:23 Thunder and lightning.
04:25 Thunder and lightning.
04:27 Remember when USC had Reggie Bush and Lindale White?
04:30 Thunder and lightning.
04:32 Shake and bake.
04:33 Shake.
04:34 - Changing paces, backs matter, dude.
04:36 That's actually like, that's a huge thing.
04:38 I think even the Patriots did,
04:39 like Garrett Blunt and who was another like,
04:41 kind of a speed,
04:43 they had a bunch of backs back then.
04:44 Not James White.
04:45 James White was the scout back.
04:45 But I remember they used to have,
04:47 that's the thing about offenses-
04:48 - Danny Woodhead.
04:50 - Danny Wood, yeah.
04:51 So I mean, well, he was a receiver?
04:54 I think you're thinking of Rex Burr.
04:55 Anyways, but-
04:57 - That's Danny Amendola.
04:58 - Danny Amendola, that's right.
05:00 The thing about all offenses,
05:03 if you look in the league,
05:03 is like everyone has a solid one-two.
05:06 Like a solid one-two.
05:07 Even though they're not getting like,
05:08 that's two like, you know, eight carries,
05:10 but it's like, dude, like that matters.
05:11 That gives them something.
05:12 Even Tony Pollard gives up about five carries
05:14 to his backup Rico Daldo, whatever.
05:17 All these guys give up some carries to each other.
05:20 It's really the 49ers are only bell cow
05:22 that really have it.
05:23 And it's, come on, think about-
05:26 - And it's not by their choice.
05:27 It's not their choice.
05:28 It's Christian's choice.
05:29 - And you would think a guy with head coach Kyle Shannon
05:32 that he wouldn't like necessarily like allow that.
05:34 But again, it's like, what's he gonna tell his stars?
05:36 That's what they want to see.
05:37 I think that's what he wants to see.
05:38 That's what he loves.
05:39 - All right.
05:43 All right, Christian.
05:44 - If he didn't like it, I doubt,
05:44 I think if he truly didn't like it,
05:46 I doubt he'd be letting that fly.
05:47 I think he loves that Christian McAfee
05:49 wants to stay in there.
05:51 - I mean, I agree.
05:52 Like the opposite was to me, Carlos Hyde.
05:54 Dude, Carlos Hyde used to take himself out
05:56 after every time he ran the ball.
05:58 It felt like, it was like, you ran it one time.
06:01 Why are you doing this?
06:03 Remember that game that the Niners had a big lead?
06:05 I think it was a Chip Kelly year against the Jets.
06:08 And I think Carlos Hyde ran for like 200 yards
06:10 and they lost to Bryce Petty somehow.
06:13 That was a game where he only had half the carries.
06:15 And I think people were like, what's the deal?
06:18 I was like, well, look at him.
06:19 He keeps taking himself out of the game.
06:21 So I don't know.
06:22 At least he's not that.
06:23 Is Carlos Hyde still in the NFL?
06:25 - No.
06:26 I don't think he's been in the NFL
06:27 for like two years, three years.
06:28 - Yeah.
06:29 Well, he did have a Hall of Fame career.
06:30 You know, great time.
06:31 - Oh yeah, that one game, hanging up in the Levoir,
06:34 whatever the word is.
06:35 - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:37 Let's see if there's any more super chats.
06:38 There are.
06:40 Jeffrey Ray says, Brady took a smaller contract
06:42 to keep his team strong.
06:43 BP wants to prove everyone wrong for years to come.
06:45 He definitely deserves the back.
06:46 Dude, Brady married Giselle, okay?
06:49 Who made way more money than him.
06:51 So I don't think you could say like Brady
06:53 was like above the money
06:54 and that's why he gave some back.
06:55 Like he had tons of money.
06:58 You think Brock is going to be like, you know what?
07:01 I'll take, no, I don't think so.
07:04 - I don't believe in this thing.
07:05 Like Brock wants to prove everyone wrong for years.
07:07 Like, no one knows that.
07:10 And I doubt he does.
07:11 I doubt he cares.
07:12 He just wants to play.
07:12 He doesn't hear about the noise.
07:14 Papa Phil says, Shadur Sanders is making 4.8 million
07:17 at college.
07:18 - Oh my gosh.
07:19 - Is that true?
07:19 - I would believe that.
07:22 I would believe that.
07:22 NIL money.
07:23 There's a lot of players making more NIL money
07:25 than Brock pretty.
07:26 Matter of fact, if Brock pretty was an undrafted free agent,
07:28 he would have made more money.
07:29 - Brock needs an NIL deal.
07:31 Great to see Jesse back and in mid season four.
07:33 - Do I look like Jesse?
07:37 He's talking about me.
07:38 - Huh?
07:39 Yeah, I don't know.
07:40 But yeah, it's funny to think about it that way.
07:42 There's college players making more money than Brock.
07:44 - Poor Brock.
07:45 No, I don't think he's going to give the Niners any breaks
07:47 in his time, man.
07:48 - He's sharing a room with someone.
07:49 Or he's not sharing a room.
07:50 He's sharing, maybe he's sharing a room.
07:52 I don't know.
07:53 - Maybe it's bunk beds.
07:54 Could be bunk beds.
07:56 - Look at all this floor space.
07:57 Look, I was doing the activities.
07:59 - I was just doing karate.
08:02 12Plays says, finally Da'Ola,
08:03 I'm playing good protecting Brock.
08:05 You agree?
08:06 We'll see this week, man.
08:08 But yeah, so far, last game was amazing.
08:12 I feel like I was more of a game plan proponent.
08:15 - Yeah.
08:16 - Not saying most solely, just more so,
08:17 because again, you're not going straight heads,
08:20 but no one really is.
08:22 But yeah, we'll do this next one,
08:24 I guess pretty much another great
08:26 Vaunted Pass Rest and Defense.
08:28 - Vaunted.
08:29 - Damn, yeah.
08:29 Fantastic.
08:30 (upbeat music)
08:33 (upbeat music)
