00:00 So this is something that I think the Niners are starting to whisper about and.
00:03 Think and feel that teams are starting to make it a point of emphasis to like
00:08 rough up Christian McCaffrey or maybe hurt him.
00:10 He's been getting some personal fouls against some last game.
00:14 They were trying to take off his helmet.
00:16 What do you think?
00:19 You think this is there's something here?
00:20 Yeah, the first time I got that feeling was in the Dallas game.
00:25 So the very first play I didn't look at that as trying to hurt McCaffrey.
00:30 The way I looked at that and I actually tweeted right away about it is when you
00:34 get into a game with the four dinners, a team that you know is very physical.
00:38 You have to overcompensate.
00:40 And so you have to do things that you feel like tough guys do.
00:45 And sometimes you're going to get penalties for it.
00:48 Stupid penalties because you're trying to match that physicality from the 49ers.
00:54 And that's what I felt.
00:55 The first play was there was a play later in the game though, and not a lot
00:59 of people talked about it, at least that I remember, but where he had had his
01:05 right leg tucked under a player and I think it was Parsons came over the top
01:10 and like kept pressing him down.
01:12 So essentially he was folding backwards and his knee was like getting tweaked.
01:18 I was like that right there.
01:20 I was like, okay, maybe, maybe they're trying to get him hurt on that play.
01:24 It seemed a little weird.
01:26 He jumped up.
01:27 It was no big deal.
01:28 But that was the first play and really the only play that I can remember
01:32 that said, all right, maybe they are trying to get him hurt.
01:35 That being said, I mean, I don't know.
01:39 I don't know if teams every week are trying this.
01:42 That's the first real glimpse that I had of it.
01:46 I mean, is there anything else that you can think of that stood out to you
01:49 as plays this feeling trying to get him hurt?
01:51 It's football.
01:53 Like, I don't know if they're explicitly trying to injure Christian McCaffrey.
01:57 Like there's not a bounty gate on him.
01:59 Anything that I know of.
02:00 They can't do that.
02:01 But I could imagine how a defensive coordinator such as Dan Quinn
02:05 might address his team the week of the game to sort of motivate him
02:08 to execute your game plan.
02:10 Like you'd say something like, their offense starts and ends
02:13 with Christian McCaffrey.
02:14 All right, and look at your linebackers and the people in your front seven.
02:18 Like look at this little dude.
02:18 Look at this 200 pound, 5'11" pretty boy.
02:21 You gonna let him run on you?
02:23 You gonna let him run over you?
02:24 You gonna like, are you gonna make him feel you?
02:26 Like, there's ways you could motivate bigger, faster, stronger people
02:30 than Christian McCaffrey to want to prove something.
02:32 Especially early in a game.
02:34 I mean, that doesn't mean that they're as good as him.
02:36 And like he's been dealing with that his whole life.
02:38 I mean, he's great.
02:39 But still, wouldn't you say something like that?
02:41 Like he's finesse.
02:43 He's small.
02:45 He's a scat bag.
02:46 He doesn't want it.
02:47 Like, even though he's proven that he does and that he's a complete bad.
02:51 You'd have to say something like that, right?
02:53 Instead of saying, "Hey man, Christian, he's too good.
02:55 What are you gonna do?"
02:56 There's nothing we can do.
02:57 He's so good.
02:58 Let's just hope and pray.
03:02 And I'm sure that plenty of things like that are being said.
03:06 And I mean, honestly, Dallas did a good job of containing CMC.
03:10 The problem is that when you dedicate all of your resources to one player
03:15 the way that they did, you forget that they have three other all pro
03:19 talents around that can go out and do something too.
03:21 And that's where the issue lies with the 49ers is.
03:25 If CMC, it's different.
03:27 This is the difference.
03:28 Taking CMC out of the game through a game plan is very different than
03:33 him not playing.
03:34 Because if he's not playing, you just don't have to worry about him.
03:36 Then you can start focusing on some of those other areas.
03:39 But if he's in the game, even if you take him quote unquote out of the
03:42 game, you're focusing all your resources on him to do so.
03:46 Which means somebody else is getting one-on-one coverage and they're
03:49 gonna abuse that.
03:50 In fact, all the other guys are probably getting one-on-one coverage
03:54 and they can all abuse that.
03:55 So that's what CMC does to a game.
03:58 Even if he's not the one that's going off, he is getting everybody
04:02 else involved because it takes so much attention away from the defense.
04:06 He's phenomenal.
04:08 He's absolutely phenomenal.
04:10 Yeah, absolutely.
04:12 And it's funny like Dallas can say we set out what we accomplished
04:17 to do.
04:18 We shut down Christian McCatt.
04:20 Who else can say they did that?
04:22 Yeah.
04:22 And in the process you gave up 42 points.
04:25 You're the worst like you had the best defense of anyone the Niners
04:29 have faced and you had the worst performance against the Niners
04:31 offense like whatever you and that's crazy.
04:33 Dan Quinn.
04:33 You'd think he'd have the best approach but his approach was the
04:36 worst.
04:36 You can't dare Brock Purdy to beat you because you know what he's
04:41 going to do.
04:41 He's not Jimmy Garoppolo.
04:44 He ain't.
04:45 I made that mistake.
04:47 He's good.
04:48 And if you dare him to beat you got to shut him down.
04:52 You know when he got hurt in the NSC championship game and Josh
04:55 Johnson came in things were different.
04:56 And if Brock Purdy goes down and Sam Donald comes in things going
05:00 to be different even with all the supporting cast.
05:03 So I think teams got to start looking at this differently.
05:06 It's not all even I need to start looking at this different.
05:08 It's not all about Christian McCaffrey.
05:10 Like the quarterback is a really important position and Brock is
05:14 playing at a really high level even though it's like your brain
05:17 can't register it because all you do is see a guy who looks like
05:20 he's 14 on the field and it's like no, no, it's not.
05:23 Can't but then it's like well, look at his numbers dude.
05:26 Look at his look at his resume through 13 games.
05:29 It's as good as it gets.
05:30 I don't I don't know what Brock's going to look like long-term and
05:34 I don't know what Brock would look like on mid team across the
05:37 NFL.
05:38 But what I do know is on this team.
05:41 He is playing literally flawless football.
05:44 Yeah, and that's the problem with facing the 49ers now is
05:50 before you could rely on the quarterback giving you an opportunity
05:55 throughout the game as long as you capitalize you would win if
05:57 you didn't you couldn't that's not happening anymore.
06:01 And so yeah, you can focus on taking CMC out of the game or
06:05 Kittle or Deborah whoever really there there to a point where
06:09 this player Brock Purdy is so good at getting everybody involved
06:13 spreading the ball around making the right decision that you have
06:16 to take him out of the game.
06:18 That's easy and I'm not it's not easy to do but you would think
06:21 it's easier to take him out the one guy versus all for the other
06:25 guys.
06:26 That's what you have to do.
06:27 Good luck.
06:28 Good luck.
06:29 I think Philly understood that because their whole game plan was
06:32 don't care about McCaffrey.
06:34 We are rushing the quarterback.
06:36 Don't care about handoffs play action.
06:38 Forget it.
06:39 Like we're taking out little Brock.
06:40 Sorry, man.
06:41 Not today, buddy, and we're taking out his backup to we're coming
06:44 for the quarterback.
06:45 It's like you want to shut down the Niners running back.
06:47 Yeah, he's great.
06:48 He's super great and he's leading the league in touches and a lot
06:51 a lot goes through him, but it's quarterback.
06:55 He's good and he's much more important positionally on the
07:00 chessboard.
07:00 You got to put him in check and the Cowboys couldn't do it.
07:04 They were too busy shutting down McCaffrey.
07:06 Let's give him a golf clap for shutting down McCaffrey.
07:09 Let's give him a nice job.
07:11 Dallas.
07:11 You did what you wanted to do.
07:13 Wave says two scenarios where Brock's arm strength could be an
07:16 issue. One is if we can't run because we're down big or need
07:20 quick score or if it's really windy.
07:22 I bet Cleveland plus seven also think Watson place.
07:26 You wrote in earlier with me and Rob.
07:29 He's Flavius concerned today, which is interesting.
07:32 Yeah, I don't I don't think Watson's going to Watson didn't
07:37 practice today.
07:38 What is today?
07:39 I guess it's only Wednesday.
07:40 We'll see tomorrow.
07:40 Thursday is the big day.
07:41 If he doesn't practice tomorrow, I don't think he's playing at
07:43 all. He's limited.
07:45 Then then we'll see.
07:46 Deshaun Watson just isn't dish.
07:48 If this was Deshaun Watson two and a half years ago, I'd be
07:52 very concerned.
07:53 But so are they saying that like PJ Walker with a full week
07:56 of practice gives him a better chance to win than Deshaun
07:58 Watson with no practice?
07:58 Is that what they're saying?
07:59 Because that's amazing.
08:00 Wow, Deshaun, how much they paying him and it's fully guaranteed
08:04 a lot of money a lot of money.
08:06 Oh smart.
08:07 Raj beer says Niner should be fresh.
08:11 They sat in the fourth quarter.
08:14 Yeah, but the Browns should be fresh.
08:15 They had a bye week last week, but that's a good point.
08:17 That is a good point.
08:18 You.
