00:00 with Jimmy Garoppolo that the offense, I remember thinking like it shouldn't be this hard.
00:04 It shouldn't be this hard to move the ball with all these players and this play caller.
00:08 And yet it was, and now it's the complete opposite.
00:10 I mean, you look at some of Brock's touchdown throws that the last touchdown throw to kiddo
00:15 Brock just loves it.
00:17 It's like a pass that you or I could have made because Brock is throwing with anticipation.
00:21 He knows exactly where Kittle's going to be and he doesn't have to throw a rocket in there
00:26 because he knows there's nobody on that part of the field.
00:28 He just lobs it up, Kittle catches it.
00:30 No problem.
00:31 I think that's part of the reason why the drops are way down this year.
00:34 It's just, it's just easy.
00:36 Yeah.
00:37 I mean, I feel like with, with Jimmy got to remember he went five and O and got paid a
00:42 hundred something million dollars without knowing Kyle system.
00:46 So I think from Jimmy's perspective, man, like I don't need your system.
00:49 I'm the guy, I think there was always a little tension there.
00:53 Like, man, you couldn't win without me.
00:54 I came here.
00:55 I was basically making it up on the fly.
00:57 I didn't know any of your plays and I went five and O man.
01:00 So we got to meet in the middle on this one.
01:01 We got to, but we have to have some creative talks and compromise.
01:06 Cause I don't want to just do what you do.
01:08 I never felt that Jimmy really put in the time to fully learn and grasp the system.
01:15 I don't think he valued it.
01:16 You saw, he said your plays freaking suck.
01:18 I don't think it was something that mattered to him.
01:20 That's the feeling I get for Brock.
01:22 I mean, he's serious, a heart attack about it.
01:24 Like this is his ticket to being a starting quarterback, Matt, like kind of like Dick
01:29 Mullins mastering the system.
01:32 And he's still working on it cause he's not going to get paid until after next year.
01:36 So he is, he's the best student.
01:38 He's not the guy who's going to flunk his final.
01:42 I could sum it up in three words.
01:44 Brock texts back.
01:46 Jimmy Garoppolo was a ghost outside of the facility.
01:48 He's his homework.
01:49 Brock does his homework.
01:51 Yeah.
01:52 And it's clear because of obviously like what you said, how he's played, but also because
01:56 of what's at stake.
01:57 We talked about it with Brandon.
01:58 Right.
01:59 There's a different motivation when you know, tens of millions of dollars is on the table.
02:05 It would motivate summer school.
02:07 Brock goes to summer school.
02:08 You know what I'm saying?
02:11 He looks like he looks very, very young.
02:15 Chris says ATO Sullivan showing Brock's anticipation throws is amazing to me.
02:19 It's what Manning was so good at.
02:21 DBS would have to cheat to break up a lot of these passes.
02:23 Yeah.
02:24 The latest JTO Sullivan video does a good job of that.
02:27 Especially like on the last touchdown to Kittle, Kittle breaks to the left and then breaks
02:31 back over the middle.
02:32 And Brock is starting to throw the ball before Kittle even fakes to the left.
02:36 Like that's how locked in he is.
02:38 And that is why it looks so damn easy.
02:40 Well, how guys look so open.
02:41 Cause you're for your defender.
02:43 You're screwed if the quarterback is throwing before the guy's out of his break.
02:47 And why is he throwing before the ball's out of his break?
02:48 It just feels like he knows the offense better than anyone.
02:52 He's 23.
02:53 It feels like he knows the offense better than anyone, better than Jimmy ever did as
02:57 well.
02:58 Maybe not as well as Kyle, but like, right.
03:00 It's incredible who the hell is this kid and where did he come from?
03:05 And who's the kid?
03:06 Brock Birdie, man.
03:07 When they drafted this guy, I watched his highlights for like five minutes.
03:12 I was like, okay, so they got CJ Beathard again.
03:14 Like no, this guy.
03:17 Like I watched CJ Beathard for years like that.
03:20 He just seemed happy to be on an NFL team.
03:22 He was playing ping pong every day.
03:24 This guy Brock Birdie is the most serious professional.
03:29 Every day he's at his locker, just sitting there reading, like studying.
03:32 Like he's not the starting quarterback of the team.
03:34 It's very, you know, it hasn't changed at all.
03:37 Not yet.
03:38 Maybe it will one day and he'll come in like, uh, you ever see boogie nights?
03:41 No, I haven't.
03:42 He'll just come in just like, oh man, nevermind.
03:44 But he'll just like come in like totally detached and gone from reality.
03:47 And he'll just be a total, like Russell Wilson.
03:49 Maybe he'll be like, you know, married to Sierra one day or the equivalent.
03:53 He'll be a star.
03:54 Or maybe he'll just keep plugging away as this, you know, aw shucks.
03:59 Football is my only passion.
04:01 I don't care about money and fame guy.
04:03 Maybe who knows.
04:04 Matt says JTL Sullivan calling Kyle Uschak coach's buddy.
04:08 It's hilarious.
04:09 It is hilarious.
04:10 It, I, yeah, he keeps doing it.
04:13 He did it for juice.
04:15 Caught the touchdown.
04:17 And then Fonzie Gonzalez says JTO gets a bit.
04:19 He just sticks with it.
04:20 Like that's, that's money.
04:21 I love that.
04:22 He also calls Kyle Shanahan Nepo baby, which is hilarious.
04:25 Uh, Fonzie Gonzalez says Henry Cab as Jimmy Garoppolo and Daniel Day Lewis as Kyle Shanahan.
04:33 Henry Cabell is not, not, he's a little old.
04:36 Stan Daniel Day Lewis, dude.
04:39 Really guy overdoes it all is way too much.
04:42 That's for me.
04:43 He does.
04:44 It's like, Oh dude, come on.
04:48 One more point I want to make about Brock.
04:50 I think it's the first time that Kyle Shanahan has ever had a quarterback where everything
04:56 special about him is from the neck up.
05:00 And I think that's why you're seeing what you're seeing out of offense.
05:06 Brock's nation, his field vision, his poise, everything neck up like incredible, incredible
05:13 aspects and attributes from him.
05:15 And I don't think Kyle's really had that since Matt Ryan.
05:18 He definitely hasn't had it in Francisco.
05:21 That's how I was going to say it's a little bit Matt Ryan.
05:22 He cause Matt Ryan by the year two had just totally dialed in this system.
05:26 Cause he's smart like Brock.
05:28 But I think what makes Brock, um, I mean, he's not the downfield thrower that Matt Ryan
05:32 was.
05:33 Although Matt Ryan did have Julio Jones.
05:34 But he's so much more mobile and that's so important.
05:39 Like Matt Ryan was a freaking statue and a big reason they blew the 28 to three lead
05:45 is that Ryan took sacks up big in the second half when it's like pretty wouldn't have straight
05:51 up wouldn't have taken those sacks and probably would pretty wouldn't have lost that game.
05:56 They're up 28 to three pretty wouldn't won that super bowl.
05:58 How about that?
06:00 How about that?
06:02 Probably he's only taking eight sacks this year and three of them came in the first week
06:06 against TJ watt and the Steelers.
06:08 Yup.
06:09 And it's, you know, the Niners have a good offensive line, but it's not like all world,
06:13 you know, it's not like he's not being touched.
06:15 He's moving around.
06:16 He's making guys miss.
06:17 He's doing those types of things.
06:19 Chris says Kyle Brandt and George Kittle say he's a robot or AI.
06:23 I assume he's talking about Brock Purdy.
06:25 He is kind of like a robot.
06:28 It was Kyle.
06:29 No, you think he was talking about Kyle.
06:33 Yeah, so shading it.
06:35 I mean, they're both so like Terminator II in terms of how they look at the game, right?
06:39 This is so like locked in and digital.
06:40 You know what I'm saying?
06:42 I don't know.
06:43 There are times when Kyle Shanahan seems like human flesh put over a metal exoskeleton,
06:48 like special sometimes.
06:50 Matt's Daniel Day Lewis as butcher was epic.
06:55 I didn't like eggs in New York.
06:56 I thought it was kind of lame.
06:58 It's like Leonardo DiCaprio being mad.
07:00 Yes, we always does.
07:01 Everyone knows that Leonardo DiCaprio's emotional range is calm and mad.
07:05 That's it.
07:06 He's got two settings.
07:07 You can chop me up and feed me to the poor.
07:09 It's like, oh man, Leo's getting mad.
07:11 Oh man, now he's not mad anymore.
07:14 Lucky Rosario says Brock seems like a mobile Drew Brees, which is a hilarious comment,
07:20 because remember, before they drafted Trey Lance, Kyle Shanahan kind of talked about
07:23 how he wanted like a mobile guy like Lamar Jackson and an accurate guy like Drew Brees.
07:28 I'm not going to say Brock is mobile like Lamar, but he's elusive like Lamar.
07:34 And he does seem to be accurate right now.
07:36 Like we said, they're on 72 percent, completing 72 percent of his passes.
07:43 He's better than Patrick Holmes, I guess.
07:46 Who is this spreadsheet?
07:47 Is that you?
07:48 No.
07:49 Deborah says for Brock, it's his faith.
07:51 He believes it's a calling.
07:53 He's meant to do it.
07:54 Whatever it is, that is true.
07:56 I'm telling you, man, that is true.
07:59 He.
08:00 Yeah, that's where a lot of his confidence comes from.
08:03 It's like he feels he was put on this earth by God to do this.
08:08 And that's a that's some serious drive.
08:12 If that's your source of drive, hard to match that one.
08:14 Well, so I have that's kind of one of the things that I think we need to learn about
08:20 Brock, because they've just been blowing the hell out of people for so long.
08:24 But late game situation, close game situation.
08:28 How does he react?
08:29 He seems very calm and very poised to his you know, everything that we've seen so far
08:34 makes us think that he would be good in those moments.
08:37 But we don't know until he actually is in them.
08:40 And just to further the point, the 49ers have only trailed for one minute and forty five
08:46 seconds this entire season.
08:49 So we just haven't gotten Brock Purdy in those situations yet.
08:53 And I do think that's one thing that we have yet to learn.
08:56 I'm not saying he can't do it before the Brock truthers come for me.
08:59 I'm not saying he can't do it.
09:00 I'm just saying we haven't had a chance to see it a lot yet.
09:03 I feel like it's been it's been hard for Niners quarterbacks to stay grounded the last ten
09:09 years.
09:10 I mean, the Niners are a very high profile team.
09:11 And when you're the quarterback of the Niners, like you get Joe Montana and Steve Young compared,
09:15 especially when you have a hot start.
09:16 So I mean, Colin Kaepernick, he became a mega celebrity.
09:19 It's kind of hard for him to stay grounded, in my opinion.
09:22 Jimmy Garoppolo became like a crossover model star.
09:25 It was kind of hard for him to stay grounded.
09:26 San Francisco, Jimmy.
09:27 Yeah, I mean, Trey Lance was supposed to be the humble dude from Minnesota.
09:31 And he came over here and he became like a social media maven and was like getting caught
09:39 at parties left and right.
09:40 It was kind of hard for him to stay grounded.
09:42 And I think with Brock, like part of what he's doing is he seems like he's staying grounded
09:47 enough to keep the same type of drive that he's had since when he was third string quarterback.
09:52 And maybe that's because of his faith, or maybe that's because he literally can't get
09:58 an extension until after next year and nothing's promised to him or whatever it is.
10:03 Like he has the drive and consistency that the Niners have been searching for a quarterback
10:10 for such a long time.
10:11 And I think that is very important when you're talking about a team that has been to three
10:16 out of the last four NFC championship games that hasn't been able to win a Super Bowl.
10:20 We always talk about how hard it is to keep climbing that mountain and keep putting forth
10:24 that same kind of effort, how you have to start over every single year.
10:28 Well, it's a hell of a lot easier when your most important player doesn't have that kind
10:33 of fatigue, so to speak.
10:36 Right.
10:37 He has the drive.
10:38 He's still hungry.
10:39 He's certainly more hungry than maybe guys that have been there for a little while.
10:43 And I think that that is a driving force for this team that is so different than, say,
10:49 like Andy Reid's Eagles teams that went to, I think it was four straight NFC championship
10:53 games.
10:54 Right.
10:55 It's different when everybody's the same, but the 49ers have added McCaffrey.
10:58 They've added Brock Purdy.
11:00 They've added Javon Hargrave.
11:01 So they have key players in key spots that don't have that same kind of fatigue that
11:06 maybe some of the other people on the team have.
11:08 And I think that's driving them.
11:10 Yeah, a quarterback, you need to be locked in like as much as the coach.
11:14 You need to be locked in more than any other player on the team.
11:17 And with Kaepernick, it was like, man, he got another interest at 26, 27 years old.
11:22 Jimmy Garoppolo went MIA in the off seasons.
11:24 Trey Lance was getting caught in the club.
11:27 You know what I mean?
11:28 Like, it's really interesting to see just that Niners have a straight up nerd at quarterback
11:33 for the first time in a minute, because the best quarterbacks to me are straight up nerds.
11:37 Like you see Peyton and Eli on their little man and cast their nerds making nerd jokes,
11:43 dad jokes like that.
11:44 And it's cool.
11:45 Tom Brady, nerd, Drew Brees, big nerd, Kirk Cousins, mega nerd.
11:50 Like you're not cool.
11:52 You're a quarterback and you have to work really hard.
11:56 I think Brock gets that for now.
11:59 You know, it's cool.
12:00 Winning is cool.
12:01 And the 49ers do it relentlessly.
12:03 Jeremy Soto says sturdy Purdy.
12:06 Matt says Leonardo DiCaprio plays the same character in every movie.
12:09 Oh, I think George is in character.
12:12 Thank you.
12:13 Oh, he's getting mad.
12:14 I feel.
12:15 Oh, I love when Leo who's getting mad.
12:19 Chris says Tom Holland as Brock Purdy.
12:21 Easy choice.
12:22 You know what that is?
12:23 Really?
12:24 That is excellent, Chris.
12:25 He does kind of look like Tom.
12:26 I think I'm on board with that one.
