Frank Reich Discusses Offensive Struggles
Transcript
00:00 Had a good morning so far, good walkthrough, get dialed in on Miami.
00:03 Obviously a good football team, explosive offense, a very good defense,
00:08 coached by Vic Fangio, and obviously a great defensive coordinator.
00:13 Mike McDaniel's done a great job, obviously, with that team and
00:15 with that offense.
00:16 Listen, we respect this team a lot, but this is really about us, right?
00:22 This is about us.
00:23 So we're just focused in and dial in on how do we get better and
00:28 go play our best game this week.
00:29 I'll open it up from there.
00:30 >> If you're following the Seahawks game that Coordinator Tom Brown that you
00:36 want to build upon those five explosive plays that happened in that game.
00:39 So then Bryce had a game where he had zero, that was beyond 20, and
00:42 then just last week he had two just right at that mark.
00:45 What's the disconnect between him saying that's an objective and
00:48 then actually that coming up for issue?
00:50 >> I thought we had, yeah, fair question.
00:53 There was a game where we had zero.
00:56 It was, I think that was against the Vikings.
00:58 Is that true?
00:59 Yeah, pretty sure where they were.
01:01 Yeah, we just gotta be better than those coaches.
01:05 We gotta put our guys in position to make explosive plays.
01:08 I am really encouraged, as I said the other day,
01:13 I thought the pass game looked pretty good this past week.
01:17 And there's a lot of good things in there to build on.
01:19 So I'm encouraged there were some, and the explosive plays, as we all know,
01:26 that's a, the league uses that 20 yard standard for an explosive play.
01:30 That's usually the category.
01:32 So there's still a lot of chunk plays in that 15 to 20,
01:35 there's chunk plays in there.
01:36 I think we're working towards it.
01:37 I'm excited about it.
01:38 I think we're heading in the right direction.
01:41 I think this team that we're playing this week, Vic Fangio, what's he known for?
01:45 Limiting explosive plays.
01:47 He's gonna play a shell defense.
01:49 Vic traditionally has been a guy, keep everything in front of you.
01:52 Make them go the long route.
01:54 Make them go the long route.
01:55 That's been Vic Fangio's MO for a long time.
01:59 And he's gonna try to outplay you and
02:01 out discipline you by playing that shell, keeping everything in front.
02:04 And see if you can sustain long drives.
02:07 Our job is to A, sustain long drives when we need to.
02:12 And B, find ways, even though he's playing a shell defense and
02:15 trying to limit the explosives, we still have to find explosives by how we scheme.
02:20 And then by what our players do run after catch in that way as well.
02:24 >> Any chance that Raheem Blackshear gets activated this week to kinda,
02:28 I guess, give a spark to that running game that you guys have been missing so far?
02:31 >> There's a possibility.
02:34 We're looking at things.
02:35 I mean, we gotta see how Miles came out of the game with a little something.
02:41 So we'll see how he progresses this week.
02:44 And Miles is a pretty tough guy.
02:45 So I'm not predetermining anything at this point.
02:48 But I don't mind telling you, I don't think Miles is gonna practice today.
02:54 I don't think Miles is gonna practice today.
02:55 So Raheem will get some looks today, be an opportunity, and
02:58 then we'll just play that out during the week.
03:00 Miles may be back.
03:03 He may not be back, not sure yet.
