Emery Jones: Success on Offense
Transcript
00:00 five guys on our line are bought into that no matter who's in there.
00:02 I feel like everybody bought in executing at a high level,
00:06 understanding the offense, understanding who we got and why we got them.
00:09 And I feel like we've just been doing a great job of doing that.
00:11 And then also, like I said, being physical and winning a lot of scrimmage.
00:14 >> And I've just asked Macy,
00:15 what do you think has been the biggest difference you want to make to sort of
00:19 get a comfortable [INAUDIBLE] >> I feel like everybody kind of
00:22 understands the scheme.
00:24 No matter what we're calling,
00:25 I feel like everybody has a pretty good understanding of what we're doing.
00:28 How does the play designer run, where does the ball poster hit,
00:31 if it's a pass, how far is the quarterback driving back.
00:33 So I feel like just understanding the scheme of the offense,
00:37 I feel like everybody's kind of bought into that and doing a great job of picking it up.
00:41 >> Well, from the defense point of view, blitzes and stumps,
00:44 does some of that timing ever help you all pick up on that and block it?
00:48 >> Yeah, going against our defense has been fun.
00:52 This spring, they gave us a lot of looks.
00:54 They experimented with things, so
00:55 we got to see a whole bunch of different types of blitzes and things like that.
00:59 So it's been great just kind of running our plays against them and
01:01 being able to make certain calls and
01:02 checks to pick up their blitzes, so that helped us a lot.
01:07 >> What's the feeling been like to be a part of an offense that is clicking at
01:10 this level, which from all angles?
01:12 >> It's a great feeling, but you can never get complacent.
01:15 There's always a next week, and there's always another game, another defense,
01:19 another style of defense that you gotta go against.
01:20 So we wanna just continue to try to get better,
01:23 continue to build on what we're doing, and just continue to elevate.
01:27 >> I've seen from TJ Chester, I've seen he got a couple snaps in him.
01:30 What have you seen from him?
01:33 >> He's stepping up.
01:34 As a freshman, he got in this big SEC game.
01:36 That was his first start.
01:37 I'm proud of him.
01:38 But he stepped up in a big way and ran that offensive line, and
01:41 he helped lead us to that win.
01:43 >> This has been a pretty physical matchup for this team in the past.
01:46 It looks like all these defensive lines are pretty physical,
01:50 with the way they play.
01:51 I mean, you guys have really stepped up your physicality as well, but
01:54 just how do you compare to a team like that?
01:56 They're gonna bring a lot of that at you coming off the back row.
02:00 >> Yeah, you just kinda watch a lot of film.
02:02 Honestly, you gotta see their techniques and
02:05 the things they do to try to get what they gotta get done.
02:09 So you watch things like their technique, their scheme, how they do stuff, or
02:13 what makes them do certain things.
02:15 And then at the line of scrimmages, you gotta come off, you gotta be physical.
02:20 I feel like that wins a lot of battles within itself, just being physical and
02:24 being determined to be more physical than the guy across from you.
02:27 So that's gonna be a big part in this week.
02:29 >> What do you remember about that game?
02:30 - Thank you very much. - All right.
