Crawley Town lost 1-0 to 10-man Wrexham at the Broadfield Stadium. Ollie Palmer's first half goal was enough to separate the sides despite Andy Cannon being sent for the visitors in the second half. Here is manager Scott Lindsey's reaction

00:00 Scott, thank you for joining us. It's a difficult afternoon here at the Brunford Stadium, it's
00:07 been a lose-out 1-0 to Wrexham. Can I get your thoughts on the game first?
00:10 Frustration would be the word I would use with that. We dominated the ball all game,
00:17 we were outstanding, we created really good chances, certainly in the first half. I thought
00:22 that we had probably more of the ball in the second half, didn't create as much. Clear
00:26 cut chances certainly in the second half because of the way they defended deep. But I'm really
00:32 proud of my players. I thought that we were excellent today against a really strong side.
00:39 It's a really strong Wrexham side. Do you think we just missed that killer instinct
00:42 today? We looked really good on the ball, lots of passing. I think we probably dominated
00:46 the possession stat but in the end the goalkeeper wasn't really tested, was he?
00:50 Dan, obviously, you know, we missed a big chance in the first half. There's a couple
00:56 of chances in the first half. I disagree with you. I think that we did enough to win this
01:00 game today in terms of chances as well. I disagree with that. But I also think that
01:06 in the second half, with all the possession, they camped in. We didn't create clear cut
01:10 in the second half. We made some poor decisions when we got camped in there. We got them in
01:16 there. We shot when we maybe should have had an extra pass. We had an extra pass when
01:22 we maybe should have shot. Once we beat the man, we then didn't pick somebody out. We
01:28 didn't beat the man enough. So, yes, I'm kind of frustrated with the final third stuff
01:34 in the second half but I thought we did enough to win the game.
01:37 Is there some credit to be earned to the Wrexham defence? You know, we've been scoring a lot
01:40 of goals recently and they're the first side to shout us out in a great number of games.
01:44 You've got to give credit to the Wrexham team. In my defence, the whole team was behind the
01:48 ball. They didn't have, I think they only had Fletcher up at the top of the pitch for
01:53 large periods towards the end of the game. They banked in and made it really hard. There
01:58 was no spaces. We just had to keep knocking the door down and hope that one would drop,
02:04 whether it's a slide pass, whether it's a shot or whether it's just being patient, playing
02:09 round and round and round until we get an opportunity to pull the trigger or make a
02:14 pass in the box or dribble in the box or drive in the box, whatever it may be.
02:18 Very disappointed in the first half to lose Ben Crabb when Adam Campbell, I'm not sure
02:22 if that was injury-forced or not, that change. Is there any updates on those two at the moment?
02:26 No updates, too early.
02:27 Do you think that Ben Crabb coming off so early naturally changes the game?
02:33 Yes, it does but we've got good players to come on in place of him. Lowless, I think
02:38 he got mad at the match towards the end of the game. We know he's a good player. It's
02:45 not really any different. Obviously, Gladwin's our captain and leader and we probably feel
02:51 a little safer with him on the pitch but when he's not on the pitch, we've still got good
02:55 players to take his place.
02:57 A bit of a gap now to early game. We've got two cut-through issues coming up. Obviously,
03:00 now the Malkin game's been postponed and I suppose it's just a chance to get back to
03:03 winning ways as soon as possible?
03:05 Yes, we don't like back-to-back losses. That was one challenge that I set the players today.
03:11 We don't go back-to-back losses. It's important to me that we keep ticking off the games and
03:16 picking up points. Yes, disappointed with that. We've got two cup games now so it will
03:23 be an opportunity for me to put some much-needed rest into some of the players who have played
03:28 lots of minutes.
03:29 Scott, you obviously didn't have Liam Kelly today. How much of a miss was that and do
03:34 you think it had any impact on him?
03:36 Yes, a big miss obviously because he's a very good player but I thought Aaron Henry was
03:39 outstanding today in his place. He's very similar to Liam in the way that we play and
03:45 the way that he plays. So I thought Aaron was very good today but obviously not having
03:51 Liam on the pitch is always going to be a big miss. It's just unfortunate. We obviously
03:57 got concussed. There's a protocol that we've got to go by for the players' wellbeing.
04:04 When Ben Gladwin came off, I don't think anybody would think that Lollos is the natural
04:10 replacement for Ben Gladwin. What was the thinking behind that?
04:13 Yes, he is. Fair enough. It's completely the natural change for me. I think that he's
04:21 very similar to Gladwin in many ways. He glides with the ball, he makes things happen, he
04:26 does well when he's facing up. You saw him score the late goal out here. I can't remember
04:31 the game. He scored the late goal. He's facing the ball. He's not moving his back to the
04:38 ball, he's facing it. So I think he is a number 10. I think he's a complete replacement for
04:42 Gladwin.
04:43 Obviously it was quite a physical game. There were a few yellow cards for the rexham players.
04:47 What was your view of the tackle on Campbell? Did you think it was a red straight away?
04:51 I think it would be harsh for me to comment without looking back at it. I think it was
04:56 a bit of a distance away from me. It didn't look great obviously but I don't really want
05:05 to comment too much on that without me looking back.
05:07 And the physicality of rexham, did that have any effect on the team? Were you expecting
05:10 that?
05:11 No, it was League 2. It was League 2. My players were fine with it. We completely dominated
05:17 the game in my opinion. I thought we were very good today. I'm really proud of the team.
05:21 We go after performances. Performances are important to me and the results will be a
05:25 by-product of that. If you play that game like that, another 100 times you win it, probably
05:30 98.
05:31 Thanks Scott.
05:32 Thank you.
05:33 Scott, as you mentioned it's a very frustrating afternoon. It felt like in a way it was deja
05:39 vu with the Ginnigan game not too long ago where it was just they were sat behind the
05:42 ball and we had to try and break the lines. It's obviously very, very frustrating when
05:48 you have to deal with that for the remainder of the game. How frustrating are you that
05:53 it just wasn't our day today?
05:55 Very frustrating. We've got players on the pitch who can score goals. Dan Orsi's got
06:00 four already. Adam Campbell's scored four. Nick Cirullo's scored four. Darcy's on two
06:06 and Lowless is on a couple, if not probably three. So you've got players who are on the
06:12 pitch who are capable of scoring goals but when you're playing against a team, an experienced
06:15 team at that, who bank in, sit in, they scored a goal out of nothing by the way. Out of nothing.
06:24 But fair play to them. They've come here, scored a goal and then put everybody behind
06:28 it.
06:29 You said you have a couple of games to I guess resurrect this result or have the correct
06:34 reaction for this result and as well you've freshly played Saturn who are one of the games.
06:39 Is that going to give you a bit of confidence going into the game that you had a very good
06:43 result against them last time and are coming again here?
06:45 No, I haven't really thought about that yet. I'm still mulling over what's happened today
06:51 but come tomorrow I'll be ready to go again and work out what we're going to do and who's
06:57 going to play and who's going to not play. So I've not looked at that yet.
07:02 Obviously we spoke about the Gladwins miss and Lollos coming on straight away but how
07:06 impressed were you with him? A man of the match performance and he seemed to be very
07:09 very dangerous at times as well.
07:11 Yeah he's a good player isn't he? He finds spaces really well, he handles the ball very
07:15 smoothly and he glides with the ball and he can chop from left to right, right to left,
07:19 he can hit it with his left, he can hit it with his right. He's a good player and we
07:24 kind of knew, we didn't want Ben Gladwins to come off the pitch but he did and like
07:29 I said before, he's a perfect replacement for him.
07:32 As well, all the possession stats were very much in favour of Crawley, are those just
07:36 some of the positives to really take in from today so far?
07:39 Yeah, of course. We're pleased, we want to own the football, we want to have all of the
07:43 ball and we did say one of the biggest things was that we know they've got a long throw,
07:48 we know they've got good corners, we know they've got good free kicks, we know that
07:51 they've flinged the ball in your box at every opportunity but one thing that I wanted was
07:56 to have all of the ball today in order for them not to be able to do the things that
08:00 they're good at and I felt that we did that brilliantly. Of course, on top of which, we
08:03 need to make sure that with all the possession we have, we have to make sure that we get
08:07 goals, we have to make sure that we create chances. We did create chances today, for
08:13 sure, we did create chances today but probably not enough on reflection of the possession
08:19 we had.
08:20 Thank you Scott.
