00:00 Scott, thank you for joining us. That's a terrific afternoon here and a perfect way to start the new year. Can I get your reflection on the game first?
00:06 Yeah, I'm obviously really pleased with the result. Excuse me, my voice has really gone.
00:13 We played differently today in the way that we pressed. We didn't jump our wide players onto their outside centre-halves like we normally do
00:25 because we were worried about their strength in the wide areas with Hutton and Tyree Shade on the other side.
00:33 We didn't want to leave Joy and Harry exposed to that. Our wing-backs in Darcy and Nick Sarula defended down the pitch,
00:43 which kind of gave them more of the ball and we blocked up. It was just a different tactic today that I felt was needed.
00:52 I thought the game plan was perfect and I thought the execution of the game plan was even better. I thought the players did it brilliantly.
00:59 So, I'm obviously really pleased.
01:01 Yeah, great execution of the game plan and massive credit to some of the players that came in today.
01:06 We'll talk a little bit about Rowles' involvement a little bit later on but the likes of Joy, Harry who's coming in the last few games,
01:12 obviously Corey's out in his place back. They all put in great performances today, didn't they?
01:16 They were very good. Joy's come up against a very, very experienced striker in Charlie Austin today.
01:22 I felt later on in the game that Charlie started peeling on that side and I thought Joy defended him brilliantly.
01:30 Of course, he was very calm in possession as well. It was a good game for him.
01:34 So, yeah, I'm really pleased with the boys who came in and played.
01:38 Yeah, obviously we will now move on to Rowles. He played a massive part in the first goal,
01:42 getting the ball to, very calm in getting the ball to Darcy who played it across the goal.
01:46 Obviously a fantastic strike for the second goal as well.
01:48 You must be so pleased. We spoke a lot about Jack in the last few weeks and how he's had to wait for his chance
01:53 and he's really taken it with both hands, hasn't he?
01:55 He's done brilliant. He has. He's had to be patient.
01:59 We've kept working with him on the training ground and I thought he did his job brilliantly well today.
02:05 Even from a defensive point of view as well, in terms of executing the game plan of what was needed from him was perfect.
02:13 And of course, his attacking bits and pieces that he'd done was brilliant and great goal.
02:20 Great goal and obviously his involvement in the whole game, I thought he was very, very good today.
02:24 He tired towards the end which is why we brought him off.
02:27 We spoke after Friday about us in front of goal and how we needed to be a little bit more clinical.
02:33 We certainly were today. Dan Orsi being one of those great strikers, performance from him,
02:37 he's there at the right time to tap in from a couple of yards out and then perfectly executes a rebound.
02:42 So, you messaged him, I still got three to win really.
02:45 Yeah, I actually thought from the kick-off he got in and thought he should have shot.
02:49 I don't know if you remember the actual kick-off, we do a set way of trying to get us in really early on in the game
02:55 and I felt he should have shot.
02:57 You look round at me, even just a minute in and I'm having a go at him for not pulling the trigger then.
03:03 He must have learned from that.
03:04 But no, he was brilliant today.
03:06 Run his socks off and again another player that got the game plan perfect.
03:11 Defensively, it would have been nice to keep the clean sheet, obviously conceding late on.
03:15 But you seemed a lot more calm and a lot more, I'm not sure what the right word is to describe it
03:21 because obviously it's hard to say this when you do concede such a late goal.
03:24 Was that a disappointing view or were you pleased with the overall performance?
03:27 I was obviously pleased with the overall performance because I thought that we worked extremely hard yesterday
03:32 on the game plan and again this morning.
03:34 Because driving in this morning I wasn't sure on one thing and we changed something.
03:40 It worked perfectly and the players executed brilliantly.
03:44 Of course, I'm disappointed to concede so late on.
03:48 You want to try and come out of there with another clean sheet.
03:51 But listen, the boys were brilliant today.
03:54 Like I say, they got the game plan spot on.
03:56 I don't think it was a great spectacle in terms of us having loads of passes and controlling and dominating the game.
04:04 I felt that we surrendered a lot of ground from our game plan but it kind of didn't matter.
04:09 They didn't really hurt us with it in my eyes.
04:11 In my opinion, I thought the game plan was needed.
04:16 In terms of what we spoke about from the Friday game against NK Duns to now,
04:20 do you think that we executed everything perfectly?
04:22 Because we spoke about how we weren't far off when the NK Duns came on.
04:25 We didn't do score and it was pleasing to see.
04:27 I suppose the lads took a lot of that into the game today and it worked.
04:30 It was a different game.
04:32 I thought we really dominated the ball at NK and got into some brilliant areas and didn't really hurt the opposition that well.
04:40 But today was a different game.
04:43 We didn't dominate the ball as much but we got the game plan spot on in terms of our defensive shape.
04:49 Our rest defence was brilliant.
04:52 We took our chances when it was called upon and I'm really, really proud of the players.
04:57 Scott, we've talked a lot recently about how you've picked up points when you're not playing particularly well
05:03 and you haven't got the results you deserve when you have played well.
05:06 Today it seemed to have all come together.
05:08 You played well and got the result you deserved. How satisfying is that?
05:11 Really satisfying, yes. Thank you.
05:13 Very satisfying. Obviously we always go after performances.
05:17 I don't think that we... I don't know what the possession stats would be.
05:22 I would dare say that it would probably be in their favour, which I don't like that.
05:27 But I felt it was needed for today's game.
05:29 I felt that if we didn't be as aggressive in terms of our press and like I say it was a different game plan in terms of my wide players.
05:39 I didn't want to press their outside centre-halves.
05:41 I wanted them to stay with their wing-backs because it would protect our outside centre-halves.
05:45 We just kind of pressed from the middle of the pitch as opposed to outside of the pitch.
05:49 It was just different and it just allowed them to have a little bit more of the ball.
05:53 But like I say it didn't bother me because they didn't really hurt us with it anyway.
05:57 I felt that the players executed the game plan perfect.
06:01 There was a moment in the first half when it was Dion passed to Corey.
06:06 Corey put it out to Jay and it was a bit tense and Jay turned the two attackers.
06:11 You turned round and clapped at the crowd. What was the reason for that?
06:14 I just thought it was a brilliant action.
06:16 A lot of people would look at that as a heart-in-mouth situation.
06:21 I want the fans to embrace those moments because it's fantastic football.
06:25 Whilst a lot of people will think it is heart-in-mouth it's actually planned quite well.
06:31 I thought it worked perfectly that action and I quite like it.
06:35 How important was it to have Joe Williams back in that midfield? He has a bit of skill doesn't he?
06:40 I thought he was brilliant today.
06:42 Listen, Kemp, who he was up against.
06:45 I literally said to him I want you to man for man mark Kemp.
06:50 Wherever he goes you go with him. If he comes off the pitch you follow him off.
06:55 He's one of the better number 10s in the division isn't he?
06:59 He's been unbelievable for Swindon.
07:02 I thought Jay marked him out of the game.
07:06 There was one action in the first half where he lost him and he nearly got in.
07:10 He fluffed his lines if you remember.
07:13 That was the only time he kind of got free of Jay.
07:16 Apart from that Jay was brilliant.
07:18 And on Denny Goals he's got 11 goals now, I think in the League 13 all together in all competitions.
07:24 How impressed have you been with him and how he's settled into this team?
07:27 He's been outstanding. Great lad. I absolutely love working with him.
07:31 Top, top lad. Works his socks off.
07:36 I'm pleased he's got these goals in his goal because the work ethic that he puts in.
07:41 He was really disappointed after the MK game that he hadn't done better in front of goal.
07:49 He looked a bit down about it so we spoke about it.
07:53 He was fine and obviously he's come back with that today.
07:56 I'm really pleased with that. Brilliant.
07:58 I think you said after the MK games we're still in a good place.
08:02 I mean today you're three points off the play-offs, starting the new year there.
08:05 You couldn't be in a better place to give you a higher than that.
08:09 We're really pleased about where we are.
08:12 We've just got to keep in touch with it.
08:14 We've got a couple of really tough months now.
08:18 The teams that we play are going to be tough.
08:21 I really back my players to get results on the road as well as here.
08:27 I think we're in a good position.
08:29 And transfer window's open. Can we expect any action soon?
08:32 Yeah I think so.
08:34 I wouldn't say soon but I think there will be action.
08:37 We are looking to put the adds on what we've got.
08:41 So yeah, we'll have to wait and see.
08:44 Brilliant. Thanks a lot. Bye bye.
08:46 June watches.
