00:00Good afternoon, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Sussex Newspapers. What really
00:07lovely to speak to a prince! Dominic Lacey will be our prince in Cinderella, the epitome
00:12of Chichester's Festival Youth Theatre this Christmas on the main house stage in Chichester.
00:17And what a role to be playing a prince! How do you approach something like that? Because
00:21it's a big role, isn't it? Yeah, it's a massive role to take on and play, but it's very fun
00:27to explore his different dimensions and different perspectives from where he's coming from.
00:33Yeah, it's a big role, including lots of research and how he might be feeling, how he might
00:40approach a room, how he might greet his guests. But yeah, it's wonderful. Tell me about that
00:45research, that's essentially thinking about it, thinking it through, is it? Yeah, thinking
00:50it through. We also have looked at maybe a prince's etiquette when entering a room, so
00:56how he might walk or who he may address, how he may address them. But it's also how people
01:02react to you, isn't it? Yeah, exactly. And it's a big, fun role to play, yeah. Absolutely.
01:10And as we were saying, some princes on stage can be a bit one-dimensional, but yours is
01:14a pretty complex character, isn't he? There's a lot to him. I would say so, yeah. People
01:21around him always, especially his father, expect him to be this one-dimensional prince
01:27who does what he's told, but he doesn't always want to follow that. He doesn't want to always
01:33live that fairy tale life and he doesn't always want to follow the rules. But I don't know,
01:40just by finding people who are similar to him, he realises what's right for him and
01:46what's right for the people around him as well, and not necessarily his father's words.
01:51Fantastic. And for you, this is your fourth main house Christmas show with the Youth Theatre.
01:56That's quite a record, isn't it? Well, yeah, I'm getting up there. I'm proud of it. It's
02:06been a long, large experience and I'm very proud to be a part of it and I've enjoyed every single
02:11year I've been a part of it. And has it changed your experience, do you think? I would 100% say
02:16so, yeah. The amount of experience I've got from this is a bit ridiculous, but yeah, it's
02:21definitely kind of broadened my idea of theatre and I might not have necessarily kind of thought
02:30my future of going into theatre if it wasn't for this, so I'm very proud of it, yeah.
02:34Brilliant. Fabulous experience to have, Your Highness. Have a fabulous Christmas.
02:38Oh, thank you, you too.
02:40Thanks very much indeed. Good to speak to you.
