00:00 I'm Laurie Blake, this is the WrestleTalk News.
00:09 On Fridays we wear pink.
00:12 Our top story today concerns a scheduling snafu that led to a turn in the tide for the
00:16 Tuesday/Wednesday Night War.
00:18 Because yes, the war is still on.
00:20 Just because they're not fighting on the same day doesn't mean the war's not on.
00:23 There's always been war on Tuesday Wednesday nights.
00:27 Because this week's AEW Dynamite fell foul of a booking incident which led many providers
00:32 and listings to say that both this week's and next week's show would be live at 4pm
00:38 Eastern time instead of the usual 8pm ET.
00:41 It seems like this gaffe has had quite the serious knock on effect as it meant that Edge
00:44 Adam Copeland's first TV episode since joining AEW drew only 800,000 viewers according to
00:51 Brandon Thurston of WrestleNomics.
00:53 This is a drop of over 50,000 viewers since last week, 50,000 people missed out on them
00:58 tight jeans.
00:59 Don't worry, Tempest are going to make up the numbers for you by re-watching the clip
01:03 of him on YouTube.
01:04 Oh Canada.
01:05 The major dip in figures also gave NXT an opening to come out on top of the weekly watch
01:10 battle drawing a higher than usual 857,000 viewers because WWE has been putting in the
01:16 effort with NXT, sending main roster stars to go there and work, talking it up, all alongside
01:22 continuing to put on great matches and it's paying off.
01:25 It's important to note that Dynamite did come out victorious in the key 18-49 demos,
01:30 scoring a 0.28, which all of my years of doing this tells me is good, even if I still don't
01:35 understand what it means.
01:37 Point 28 of what?
01:39 While Adam Copeland's debut Dynamite may not have had the desired viewership pot, he's
01:44 definitely had an effect on ticket sales, with WrestleTix noting that 1,010 tickets
01:49 were distributed for the Stockton Arena show after Edge was added.
01:53 Meanwhile WWE is doubling down on giving NXT that main roster rub as it's been reported
01:58 that an upcoming episode of Raw is set to see the heaviest ever promotion for the brand.
02:03 That's because main roster stars like Cody Rhodes and Asuka are all slated to appear
02:07 on the October 10th edition, as is John Cena in the corner of Carmelo Hayes as he takes
02:12 on Bron Breaker, who's going to be backed by Paul Heyman.
02:15 With the TV rights deal coming up and the show being scheduled against Dynamite's
02:19 schedule Tuesday, WWE seem to be stacking NXT and hoping for a historically high viewership
02:25 number.
02:26 Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio noted that he doesn't think WWE is done with cramming
02:29 the show full of main roster stars either and that Raw's promotion will be probably
02:34 the heaviest ever and I would expect more big roster names on that show next week that
02:39 you know will get announced on Monday.
02:41 And the weird thing is AEW almost narrowly avoided going up against this bumper version
02:46 of NXT with their scheduling issues as the show was slated at not only the wrong time
02:49 but the wrong day next week.
02:52 The debacle prompted a clarification tweet from Tony Khan saying the TBS schedule is
02:55 wrong for Dynamite tonight and also wrong for next Tuesday.
02:59 Next Tuesday, #TitleTuesday, Dynamite is also 8pm ET/7pm Central on Tuesday the 10th of
03:06 October, my birthday.
03:09 Title Tuesday is set to feature Edge's first AEW match taking on Luchasaurus and Sarraya
03:13 defending the AEW Women's World Championship against Hikaru Shida.
03:17 One name in the mix at AEW who hasn't done more than appear in the crowd at All In is
03:21 Mercedes Monet who is thought to begin working with the company once she recovers from her
03:26 ankle injury.
03:27 And now the former Sasha Banks has tweeted that she might be interested in next month's
03:30 full gear in Los Angeles saying during an Instagram Live.
03:34 When is that?
03:35 I don't know, I've got to ask my friend.
03:36 A little AE-dub, it's coming here to LA I guess.
03:40 Sure, if I'm free.
03:41 I've got to see.
03:42 I've got to check the schedule.
03:43 I know we're really busy, we're doing a lot of things, travelling a lot.
03:47 Non-committal but a tease nonetheless.
03:49 Anyway, so with CM Punk out of the wrestling mix that has left poor old Brian Children
03:55 without much going on.
03:56 So he's been trying his hand at commentary.
04:01 Should go well.
04:02 And he's being thrown away.
04:03 Oh dear, but he's coming back.
04:04 Oh, and he's back again.
04:05 Oh, and he's whacked them both down with his lovely forearms.
04:06 A shake of the ropes.
04:07 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:08 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:09 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:10 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:11 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:12 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:14 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:15 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:16 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:17 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:18 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:19 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:20 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:21 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:22 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:23 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:24 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:25 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:26 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:27 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
04:53 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
05:00 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
05:01 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
05:02 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
05:03 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
05:04 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
05:05 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
05:06 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
05:07 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
05:08 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
05:09 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
05:10 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
05:11 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
05:12 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
05:13 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
05:34 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
05:58 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
06:24 Oh, and he's got a little bit of a kick.
06:53 WWE loved to place him in as he and Drew McIntyre began a short alliance.
06:57 While this seemed like little more than fuel to feed an eventual Drew McIntyre heel turn
07:02 and feud, it turns out that WWE had much more significant plans for Riddle and Drew than
07:07 first appeared.
07:08 Because according to WrestleVotes on Twitter, the unofficially named Glazz Bros were due
07:12 to get a very different name, one that screams "limited edition McDonald's sandwich",
07:17 much more than it does "wrestling tag team".
07:19 The McRiddle, yes, the McRiddle.
07:24 WrestleVotes added that WWE even went as far to design merchandise items with this team
07:29 name.
07:30 So maybe Drew got away from that one.
07:33 Despite McRiddle being lost to the seas of time, thankfully, one team was recently resurrected
07:38 in glorious fashion amid high fan demand.
07:41 That of course being DIY.
07:44 Yep, Ciampa's long search for his best pal Johnny Wrestling came to an end on Raw this
07:48 week as the Do It Yourselves boys laid some vintage beats onto Imperium's Lukevid Kaiser
07:54 and Giovanni Vinci.
07:56 Despite the DIY reunion seeming like a no-brainer for so long, many have begun to lose their
08:01 hope.
08:02 Yet in an alternative timeline we could have seen this reunion happen as far back as June,
08:06 and that comes according to Fightful Select.
08:08 Let's all cast our minds back to the June 19th edition of Raw, which emanated from Cleveland,
08:13 Ohio, a show that was a victim of many late creative changes.
08:16 Notably a planned Seth Rollins World Heavyweight Championship Open Challenge being accepted
08:21 by a returning Tommaso Ciampa.
08:24 This did not happen as Ciampa instead returned and faced The Miz.
08:31 According to Fightful the original plan was to see Ciampa answer the challenge and be
08:34 quickly beaten down by the Judgment Day, leading to a massive return for Gargano to make the
08:39 save in Cleveland, Ohio.
08:42 As was reported at the time, Gargano was in fact backstage in Cleveland on June 19th,
08:46 with plans heavily changed in the days prior before being nixed altogether, leading to
08:51 an extra three month wait for Mr. Wrestling.
08:54 This reportedly led to loads of frustration, but thankfully Johnny got to spend a lot of
08:58 his time being squashed by Omos on the WWE house circuit, so it's swings and roundabouts.
09:04 Speaking of changed plans, AEW has likely had to do their fair share of script rewrites
09:09 of late, and not because of the whims of some old moustached oil tycoon who looks like Carter
09:14 beats the devil, no it's unfortunately been because of that darn injury bug.
09:19 Because on night that also saw Jon Moxley get sidelined with a concussion, Adam Cole
09:23 also blew out his ankle, jumping from the entrance ramp at September 20th's Dynamite
09:28 Grand Slam.
09:29 On the following week's Dynamite, Cole revealed that he had broken his ankle in three places
09:33 and was set to have surgery, however many still speculated over the extent of Cole's
09:38 injury.
09:39 The news outlet did reaffirm that Cole was expected to be out for some time, if you're
09:41 still not convinced maybe take it from the man himself.
09:44 Because speaking on his Twitch channel, Cole discussed his current status, confirming that
09:48 yes his ankle is broken.
09:50 "My ankle is broken.
09:52 When it's all said and done, when I'm eventually able to get everything all fixed,
09:55 I'm going to need to get two surgeries and it will be a total of eight screws and
09:59 a plate in my ankle."
10:01 Cole described the injury as the most painful he'd ever had, revealing that doctors have
10:06 no idea how it happened.
10:08 Cole said that despite the physical pain, it's more painful mentally, which sucks
10:12 to hear.
10:13 Hopefully Roddy's shrunk and maybe stopped getting him to move furniture.
10:18 As well as Cole's home decorating, one other unfortunate occurrence from Wednesday's
10:21 Dynamite was the absence of Don Callis family member Sammy Guevara.
10:24 Guevara was originally advertised to be teaming alongside Tekeshter to take on Chris Jericho
10:28 and Kenny Omega in tag action, however Callis later announced that the Spanish God was not
10:34 medically cleared to compete.
10:36 Next letter Ozzy opens Carl Fletcher unsuccessfully filling in much of the chagrin of Callis,
10:40 but what of Sammy?
10:42 According to Dave Meltzer and Wrestling Observer Radio it unfortunately looks like yet another
10:45 concussion, which Guevara seems to have suffered at some point during his trios match at WrestleDream
10:50 on Sunday.
10:51 Sammy got a concussion on the pay-per-views is what happened, so he's out until next
10:55 week, could be, who knows, but yeah he's out.
10:59 Again, that's a major bummer.
11:00 Hopefully Guevara will be back on TV healthy enough soon, and we at WrestleTalk would like
11:04 to extend our well wishes to Cole and Guevara in their respective recoveries.
11:08 And finally I thought it would be a nice idea to finish up today's news with a couple
11:11 of laughs as it's time to look at what Hulk Hogan is claiming to have happened this week.
11:16 What lies will the man tell now?
11:18 Because speaking in a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, Hogan dropped numerous bombshells.
11:22 These including revealing scrap plans for his WWE retirement match against John Cena
11:26 at WrestleMania, comparing the script for his upcoming Netflix biopic starring Chris
11:30 Hemsworth to the Godfather, and saving the best for last, that WWE had plans for his
11:34 son Nick Hogan to wrestle at WrestleMania 39.
11:37 Yeah, you heard that right, Nick Hogan.
11:40 Known best for appearing on Hogan Knows Best back in the mid-2000s and being, you know,
11:47 just Hulk Hogan's son.
11:50 Sounds totally feasible.
11:51 According to Hogan, Shane McMahon contacted Hogan regarding a match at Mania, however
11:55 due to Hogan's health he couldn't do it, meaning Nick could be the surrogate for his
12:00 father.
12:01 Surrogate was in quotation marks.
12:03 Hogan mentioned that Nick had been training at Rikishi School and had it figured out,
12:07 however plans were nixed and then Nick blew both his shoulders out.
12:11 In response to this story, Fightful Select reach out to a WWE higher up who effectively
12:16 told them that, brace yourselves, Kendo, brace yourselves.
12:21 That was a load of bollocks.
12:26 The WWE source told Fightful, "In no way is that true.
12:30 I can't think of a time in the last 13 or 14 years that Nick Hogan's name has been
12:35 brought up at all, much less in a creative capacity.
12:39 There has never been a serious conversation about him being involved in anything that
12:43 I can think of, even when Hulk would mention him being involved in things, there just wasn't
12:48 an interest or a benefit to that."
12:52 To be fair to Hulk, the higher up then did confirm that Shane does often have wacky ideas,
12:56 yet cast a doubt on whether even Shane would pitch something that out there.
13:01 That is damning with faint praise.
13:03 Even Shane.
13:04 Do you like wrestling?
13:05 Well you're 10 minutes into a bloody video about it so you better do.
13:08 Do you like board games on top of all that?
13:10 Because we've combined the two over on PFK for no holds barred.
13:14 We've taken great board games and we've added wrestling to the mix and they've fused
13:18 them into one video and it's over there and you can watch it right now.
13:22 Go on, we're playing Fun Facts.
