00:00 a lot of carryover from that game in terms of what they're doing fundamentally,
00:02 schematically.
00:03 Dan is very involved, and Campbell's very involved with the offense.
00:07 And so we know what they're gonna be about, and so should be a good matchup.
00:11 >> How would you describe that offense, just in kind of, well,
00:16 again, too specific?
00:18 >> Yeah, I would say the biggest thing about them is that they do a good job in
00:23 terms of window dressing things.
00:24 There's gonna be a lot of motions, shifts, things of that nature.
00:28 They're really gonna try to distract your eyes before the snap.
00:31 But the core fundamental is that they're running the ball.
00:34 We know there's certain runs that they're gonna feature,
00:36 certain runs that they're gonna be good at.
00:38 And they're gonna have the play action pass that's working off of that.
00:42 So that's what we gotta be ready to deal with.
00:45 >> Detour had a pretty good game, it seemed like, last week.
00:47 What's been the biggest difference for him?
00:49 It seems like just a switch just flipped for him recently.
00:52 >> Yeah, I just think he's been committed since day one.
00:55 Since we've been with him,
00:56 it's been about his work, playing on the edge, playing inside.
01:01 He knew he was gonna have multiple roles to do that in.
01:05 And he's been committed to being better.
01:06 And I know he's doing it in every phase of his life, in the classroom,
01:11 in the weight room, on the field, obviously.
01:13 And I've just seen a great commitment from a young man since day one
01:17 to be the best version of himself.
01:18 And now he's seen the fruits of that labor.
01:20 >> I know you and I think even Frank said at times at the beginning,
01:23 it kinda looked very foreign to him in this defense.
01:26 Is that in the past now completely, and he's completely comfortable?
01:29 >> Yeah, yeah, and I mean, that's not unnatural.
01:31 He's never played with his hands down, or I assume he's standing up.
01:34 He's always played with his hands down.
01:36 And so that's not unnatural at all for that to happen.
01:40 But where I've been really pleased with him is that he's worked through it.
01:43 He never got down about it.
01:45 He was upbeat, he was positive.
01:48 And he knew that if he worked and prepared,
01:50 that it would eventually come around, and it has.
01:53 >> We haven't seen Justin make a real big impact as of yet.
01:58 Is there anything you can do schematically to kinda get him going?
02:04 >> Yeah, I think he's done a solid job for us.
02:08 He's been really good in a run game and run opportunities.
02:11 And what we need to do as a team, overall, as a defense overall,
02:15 is that we just need to create more pass rush situations.
02:17 And I feel like we've done a good job of rushing the passer, but
02:21 we just haven't had enough opportunities to do it.
02:23 And so we need to get more second and longs, more third and longs.
02:27 I think that's the key to us being the defense that we wanna be, so
02:30 we can create those opportunities to rush the quarterback and
02:32 potentially create an explosive place for us.
02:35 >> Now, following up on Yitur, after not playing very much in the first game,
02:41 he's continuing to make big plays.
02:42 Is he earning more snaps?
02:44 >> Absolutely, absolutely.
02:45 And he earned those snaps even before we started playing games,
02:48 to be honest with you.
02:50 He did a great job in training camp, and he was ready to go.
02:54 And as you know, the flow of the game in that first game is like we didn't really
02:58 play a lot of snaps on defense.
03:00 And just kind of some of the personal groups that we were working,
03:03 didn't work out that way.
03:04 But the intention was to play him in that first game.
03:07 But you can see now that the last three games is kind of what we wanna be
03:11 defensively in terms of that substitution pattern there.
03:14 >> You guys have had a lot of different people going through a lot of different
03:18 ways of playing defense.
03:19 Third down defense has been pretty consistent across four weeks.
03:22 Is there a common thread there that you can kind of point to that there's some
03:27 degree of pride in at this point?
03:29 >> Yeah, I mean, I think when you look at it,
03:31 the first thing is that we have a lot of really good rushers.
03:34 When you can put Derek on the field, Yitur on the field, Brian obviously,
03:38 Justin, Frankie being activated in some of these deals.
03:41 So we have the ability to get a lot of pressure when we get people to those
03:44 situations.
03:45 And we've done a good job in terms of the coverage schemes with Jonathan Cooley and
03:49 Bert in the back end, really coaching up some of the zone coverage that we're doing.
03:53 And so that's always a point in formula.
03:55 If you can rush the quarterback, you're gonna have success on third down.
03:57 You're trying to use that.
