Transcript
00:00 Hello, I'm Gill Buchanan, the editor of the Falkirk Herald, and I'm here to tell you
00:04 about some of the stories that are making the headlines in our print edition, which
00:08 is on sale now. Organisers of a popular family Christmas event at Ruffcastle have cancelled
00:14 it just weeks after tickets went on sale. Major works at the Falkirk Wheel by Scottish
00:19 Canals means much of the site that would have been used will be fenced off, and those involved
00:24 with the December event said they would reduce the enjoyment for those attending.
00:29 Work to extend the gas mains network in some of Falkirk District's villages is about to
00:34 begin over the coming weeks. It follows residents in what they called the District's Forgotten
00:39 Villages mounting a campaign saying they faced huge power bills because of the electric heating
00:44 systems that were fitted in their homes. It's well done to behind the wall boss Brian Flynn
00:50 for being named Scotland's Licensee of the Year, although he was quick to say that the
00:55 award was for all his team. And congratulations to well-known Denny woman Nan Henderson as
01:01 she celebrates her 100th birthday, while the arrival of little Devon Balloch marks five
01:07 generations for one braids family. Watch out for Falkirk soldier Christopher Dean in the
01:13 new BBC series aptly named Soldier, which looks at the life of recruits joining the
01:18 British Army. With full coverage of the Strathcarn Hospice 10k at the weekend with lots of
01:25 photographs. A photo galleries from Take the Right Route event in Bowness and coffee mornings
01:30 held across the district for charity, including at Lawrison Primary School and a fashion show
01:36 organised by the Rotary Club of Grangemouth. Historian Ian Scott gives details of the latest
01:43 Falkirk Local History Society publication, which looks at the history of Grangemouth.
01:49 And in sport, former Falkirk player Robbie McNabb, now with Cowdenbeath, reveals he's
01:54 inherited the debilitating Huntington's gene and how he intends to live life to the full
01:59 as every minute is precious for him. All these stories and more are in a print edition, which
02:04 is on sale now and also online at www.falkirkherald.co.uk. Thank you.
