00:00 This time on Roadkill we've got El Camino.
00:02 We've got dog, hot rods, burnouts, alters, customs, merc, wine.
00:08 You can't go wrong.
00:09 You had me at El Camino.
00:11 [MUSIC]
00:21 [SOUND]
00:31 We're kicking this thing off here at Finnegan's shop where you always have to
00:49 roll a boat out of the way to get to the actual car parts.
00:52 What we're gonna do is roll from here to the Hot Rod Ranch in Lompoc, California.
00:57 Those guys have a bunch of cool stuff and
00:58 they're gonna be painting a 32 Ford project of mine.
01:01 Then we're gonna roll up to Gambino Customs and
01:04 pick up a 51 Merc that actually belongs to a Roadkill viewers.
01:07 We're gonna make it run and
01:09 drive it over to another shop that's gonna be working on it.
01:13 We're loading up the El Camino.
01:14 We're gonna take my wife's car this time because it's probably the most reliable
01:17 thing we have in the Roadkill fleet right now.
01:20 This is how you keep oil from the breathers off of your engine compartment.
01:24 Microfiber towels cut up, wrap around the breather with some zip ties.
01:28 And for a little while, it works really good till it gets saturated.
01:32 >> You've churched this thing up since the last time it was on Roadkill.
01:35 >> Dude, I gave it a bath and everything.
01:36 >> Well, check out these wheels.
01:38 >> The other ones, well, let's just say they weren't exactly round.
01:41 >> [LAUGH] These are, and these tires are killer.
01:45 >> Yeah, these make me look like I know how to go around corners.
01:47 [MUSIC]
01:49 >> [LAUGH] >> My God.
01:51 >> Wee. >> These are way too sticky.
01:53 These will not do it.
01:54 [MUSIC]
01:58 >> So, Hot Rod Ranch, Lompoc.
02:02 >> The place where Vin Diesel went to prison in Fast and Furious 1.
02:05 >> Is that true?
02:06 >> That's what he's claimed in the movie.
02:08 >> Okay.
02:09 >> I did two years in Lompoc.
02:11 I ain't never going back.
02:13 >> That's the way he said it.
02:15 [MUSIC]
02:19 >> A little bit of tire rub with you and me in the car.
02:21 [MUSIC]
02:26 So this is claiming three hours and 13 minutes to Hot Rod Ranch.
02:30 >> So nine hours.
02:32 >> Plus we have to go pick up the dog.
02:34 >> Say that again?
02:38 >> We have to go pick up the dog again.
02:39 >> Wait, why do you have to?
02:41 >> Is there a blanket for the seat?
02:46 >> I think you need to wear a rain slicker, because I'm aiming that [BLEEP]
02:50 you.
02:50 >> My God.
02:51 [MUSIC]
03:00 >> Do you want to put her in the bed in the cage?
03:02 >> We don't have the proper harness system.
03:04 >> Look at that, she knows where her seat is.
03:07 My God, it's working.
03:08 >> No.
03:09 >> It's working.
03:10 >> Wow.
03:11 >> I didn't have to heave her.
03:13 >> Look at how obedient she is now.
03:15 >> Okay, there you go.
03:17 Wow, that is a stinky dog.
03:20 Should have hosed that junk off before he loaded her in here.
03:22 >> Do not lick my face.
03:25 >> Okay, we talked about this the last time.
03:26 >> [LAUGH] >> What did she give you?
03:28 >> Got a little bit of French there.
03:30 [LAUGH]
03:32 [MUSIC]
03:36 >> My God.
03:37 [LAUGH]
03:38 >> Why does this stink?
03:39 >> No hotel is letting us stay.
03:41 >> [LAUGH] >> Nobody.
03:42 >> Not if they smell this.
03:43 [MUSIC]
03:46 >> Uh-oh.
03:47 >> What was that?
03:48 >> What was that?
03:49 >> What was that?
03:50 >> Not good.
03:51 >> Is that a protest?
03:52 >> That might have just been her snoring.
03:55 She snores pretty good.
03:56 [MUSIC]
03:59 Hey dog, what do you think of Finnegan's fancy new steering wheel?
04:01 Does that look chewable?
04:02 >> [LAUGH] >> It's tasty.
04:04 >> I'll give the dog that.
04:08 >> Don't chip your tooth on the billet.
04:09 >> It doesn't chew things up.
04:11 It's never required too much effort.
04:13 >> Yeah.
04:14 [SOUND]
04:16 [MUSIC]
04:23 If the El Camino had air conditioning, it would be as good as the Ram truck.
04:27 >> This is true.
04:28 >> It cruises good.
04:29 >> It's got a lot of utility.
04:31 >> Good arm rest.
04:32 [MUSIC]
04:33 >> All right, going for the carpool lane because we can.
04:37 >> The dog pool lane.
04:38 [MUSIC]
04:40 >> The 50 Merc was about 350 miles north of our office in San Jose, California.
04:45 And for once, we had time to take the Pacific Coast Highway and drive up to one.
04:49 [MUSIC]
04:53 >> This has been one of our more scenic drives recently.
04:56 No desert.
04:56 >> I'm thoroughly enjoying this.
04:58 [LAUGH]
04:59 [MUSIC]
05:02 >> Ooh, a tunnel.
05:03 [SOUND]
05:10 >> That was fun.
05:11 >> Very angry 383 inches.
05:13 >> Yes.
05:14 [SOUND]
05:23 >> The next morning we met up with Gil, Jamie, and Randy,
05:26 who are the three brothers that run Hot Rod Ranch.
05:28 The first visit was at their shop, which is separate from the ranch.
05:32 >> There we go.
05:33 >> How you doing?
05:34 How's it going?
05:35 >> This looks cool.
05:36 >> Thanks. >> You said I might not be impressed.
05:37 I already am.
05:38 >> [LAUGH]
05:39 >> Good morning.
05:40 >> Good morning.
05:40 >> How you doing?
05:41 >> Good.
05:41 >> How's it going?
05:42 >> Good, good.
05:43 >> Well, welcome to the-
05:44 >> Just going past you right in your-
05:45 >> [LAUGH]
05:46 >> Right in.
05:47 >> Wow.
05:49 >> Wow, that's what it looks like when people make progress on a 55 gas.
05:52 I'm unfamiliar with that.
05:53 >> That hurts.
05:54 >> [LAUGH]
05:55 >> It just hurts.
05:57 >> Ooh, I like the color on this.
05:58 Is that just House of Colors?
06:00 >> It's called House of Colors Lime Time, yeah.
06:02 >> This is a truck that we built for my uncle.
06:03 He's had it since he was like 16.
06:06 And a few years back he decided to go all out on it.
06:08 You guys did all the body work on this?
06:09 >> Everything.
06:10 >> God, this thing's straight.
06:11 >> It's really nice.
06:12 >> This is kind of our first main build, serious build.
06:17 >> It's really flat though.
06:18 >> A lot of color sanding.
06:19 >> A lot of color sanding.
06:20 >> We hand formed that whole range and cover out of sheet metal.
06:24 And Randy did the flames.
06:25 That is beautiful.
06:26 >> Cool. >> Thank you.
06:27 >> Wow, this is bigger than I thought.
06:29 Ooh, here's another 34.
06:31 It looks a little decrepit.
06:32 I'm working on a 32 Ford project that's gonna get painted by these guys,
06:35 which is why I wanted to stop by and sort of see the shop.
06:38 I've never been here before.
06:39 They take stuff like this 34 Ford.
06:41 Look how clapped out this thing is, and
06:43 they're gonna make that into a real car.
06:45 It's pretty amazing.
06:46 >> So if you don't mind me asking, what did this cost?
06:50 >> This one I picked up for 2,400 bucks.
06:52 >> Wow, that's some good.
06:53 >> I got offered three grand the very next day for it.
06:56 It's like, it was just, they're getting hard to find, you know?
06:58 >> It's just crazy that something that's missing half the firewall,
07:01 part of the pillar.
07:02 Cuz when I say he paid $2,500 for this,
07:05 you really have to realize that he paid $2,500 for that.
07:09 >> [LAUGH] >> What's amazing about these guys is
07:12 the sheer volume of work that they actually get done.
07:16 I've been following this project Thunderbird that they're throwing a late
07:19 model Coyote motor into.
07:21 And by far my favorite car here is this 34 Ford that Gil picked up and
07:25 turned into one of the most wicked looking Altrids I've seen in a long time.
07:29 >> We need to find out if it'll pass NHRA tech and build a real motor for it.
07:33 >> That's, I'd really like to, especially after what we found out,
07:36 it weighed 2,300 pounds.
07:38 >> Exactly. >> That's pretty light.
07:39 >> I have an aluminum block that would look fantastic on this thing with an 871
07:43 on it.
07:43 Check this out.
07:44 Did you guys build this?
07:46 You found it?
07:48 Wow.
07:49 That is totally sketchy.
07:50 >> Just start off nowhere near the cars, okay?
07:52 >> No brakes.
07:53 >> You got a brake right there.
07:54 >> Where?
07:55 >> Right here.
07:56 >> Okay.
07:57 I bet that works good.
07:58 No.
07:59 >> You got this.
08:00 I feel good about this.
08:02 Cuz I'm not on it.
08:03 Yeah.
08:04 >> [LAUGH] >> There's more good junk down here.
08:08 >> Taking off some sweet jumps.
08:10 >> [LAUGH] >> Ow!
08:12 >> There we go.
08:13 Maybe sandals aren't the best idea.
08:15 Chains off.
08:16 >> [LAUGH]
08:19 >> It works about as good as most of your cars.
08:21 >> All right, that was fun while it lasted.
08:23 >> As if there wasn't enough cool stuff here at the shop,
08:27 we were gonna head out to the ranch.
08:29 So I hopped into Gil's 34 Ford, and we hit the road to go check it out.
08:33 [SOUND]
08:39 >> Is it stupid or ironic that we're in Lone Poke about to do burnouts right next
08:43 to the sign for the US Penitentiary?
08:45 See, told you this is where Vin Diesel went.
08:47 [SOUND]
08:57 [MUSIC]
09:07 The ranch is where the original shop location was.
09:21 It's actually where these guys grew up.
09:24 And now they just basically use it for storage, but they store cool stuff.
09:28 Their big deal is gassers, and they've got these two '56 Chevys that are just
09:33 original leftovers, very pure to the 60s and 70s era.
09:38 >> I'm just sitting here daydreaming about what it would be like to drive my car.
09:41 This is pretty cool because my car was completely gutted when I bought the body.
09:44 Didn't have anything, no switches, no door, no gauges, just nothing.
09:49 So this is the first time I've actually sat in a '55 Chevy and
09:52 looked at the dashboard and went, that's where the glove box goes.
09:56 [MUSIC]
09:58 >> We could have spent all day and into the next one there,
10:01 hanging out with the guys from Hot Rod Ranch.
10:03 But it was 250 miles to Gambino Customs where the Merc was, so
10:07 we had to hit the road.
10:08 [MUSIC]
10:16 We arrived in San Jose and got to Gambino Customs late in the afternoon.
10:21 And we met Alex Gambino, who I knew by reputation,
10:24 cuz the guy builds really awesome traditional customs.
10:27 One of them is like his daily driver.
10:29 It's this '57 Chrysler that has a Winfield fade job that Alex did himself.
10:35 And then we laid eyes on the '50 Merc.
10:38 >> So this is it.
10:40 >> It used to be a coupe, but somebody has hacked the roof off and
10:43 put in a Chevelle convertible top mechanism that doesn't really work right.
10:47 It also has a big block Chevy in it, which makes sense,
10:49 because the whole car is on a Chevelle frame.
10:52 It's a good solid foundation for a running driving car,
10:55 if it wasn't quite as hacked together as this one is.
10:58 So you're just trying to make sure everybody's aware this is not your work.
11:02 >> Yes. >> Is that what you're saying?
11:03 >> Yes.
11:04 [LAUGH]
11:04 [MUSIC]
11:06 >> I know there's a lot of wrong here, but this is a fun looking car.
11:09 I would be completely happy to drive this into a wall or something.
11:15 So my connection to this whole deal is Jim Norman and
11:17 I became friends because he was watching Roadkill.
11:20 And he sent me a message on Facebook once, and he was looking for some parts.
11:25 And I had an engine block he needed.
11:26 After that, he happened to mention that this car needed to get from Gambino
11:30 Customs to the shop that he has in Paso Robles.
11:33 And he was gonna come down here with some tools, get it running, and drive it.
11:36 Instead of him fixing the car up,
11:38 we came down here to put our magic touch on the engine.
11:40 We know it's got a carb problem, the oil smells like gas, but
11:44 it should light off, it should move, then we'll be able to tackle the brakes.
11:48 With any luck, we'll hit the road tomorrow afternoon.
11:51 And now that I've said that out loud, it'll probably be Monday morning.
11:54 [LAUGH]
11:54 [MUSIC]
11:58 [SOUND]
12:01 >> It's Saturday morning and we're back at Gambino Customs,
12:04 ready to work on the Merc for the first time.
12:07 >> You can see the front half of the Chevelle chassis right here.
12:11 And they've grafted some two by four box tubing down the middle.
12:15 Some really brilliant welding there, let me tell you.
12:18 >> It runs, but we haven't driven it yet.
12:20 The problem is, there's a massive oil leak.
12:23 So that's the first thing we have to fix.
12:25 And we have help from Jim here, who actually hooked us up with this whole deal.
12:28 So we can kick him later.
12:30 >> Yeah, you're welcome.
12:32 >> [LAUGH]
12:33 >> So here's how oil's supposed to work, right?
12:36 It's supposed to be fairly consistent, a little thick.
12:39 This is more like water with a little bit of gasoline in it.
12:42 So it's not doing anybody any good.
12:44 >> I am thinking that the fuel pump diaphragm's bad and
12:47 pumping gas into the oil.
12:49 But see this?
12:50 This is- >> Hey, that's supposed to turn.
12:52 >> That's hard to turn.
12:53 >> It's supposed to turn.
12:55 >> Yep.
12:55 This is a first for Roadkill because the Merc is a custom instead of really a hot
13:01 rod or a muscle car.
13:03 They've always said that hot rods are for scaring girls away and
13:06 customs are for attracting them.
13:08 They're all about the look.
13:09 They're for styling, profiling on the street, not that much for
13:12 really going fast.
13:14 This is a 50 or 51 Merc, which is sort of like the iconic custom car.
13:18 It was the first time Detroit had recognized what the custom guys were doing.
13:22 It was almost a custom from the factory.
13:24 If you saw American Graffiti, the Pharoahs, that's what they drove,
13:28 is one of these.
13:29 And this one has been customized.
13:31 It's got the classic Packard tail lights.
13:33 And this is a 56 Chevy, I think, front bumper that's flipped upside down and
13:38 put on the back of the overrider bar.
13:40 So kind of traditional custom stuff, executed not that well.
13:46 >> You never know really where to begin on something like this where you've
13:48 never touched a car.
13:50 You just start fixing junk and the more you put hands and
13:52 eyeballs on the car and find even more.
13:55 >> It's like something we'd do.
13:56 >> No, I wouldn't do that.
13:58 >> If we were on the side of the road, we would.
14:00 >> You would have at least polished the stuff.
14:01 >> Yeah, use an Allen bolt.
14:02 >> Yeah.
14:03 >> Remember we had that problem with the front wheels barely turning,
14:08 like the brakes were locked up?
14:09 It's got discs on the front and
14:10 I noticed that it has a drum brake master cylinder,
14:13 which I know because both the reservoirs are the same size.
14:16 I also know that a drum brake master cylinder has residual pressure valves in
14:19 it, which are designed to hold just a little bit of brake fluid pressure
14:23 in the line, but you can't have that on disc brakes.
14:26 So we ordered a 72 Chevelle disc brake master cylinder and
14:29 Jim's throwing it on there right now.
14:30 [MUSIC]
14:32 >> Jim was a huge help on the brakes along with Freiburger.
14:35 I worked on the tune up and we thrashed on this thing all day long.
14:40 >> There you go.
14:41 Nice.
14:42 Airbags in the coil springs, booger weld extended the frame.
14:46 There's the exhaust system that does a corkscrew and
14:48 a half gainer over the rear axle.
14:50 >> This thing was registered as a truck in Indiana in 2011.
14:54 So Jack, the guy that owns this car, is way more legit than us because he
14:58 registered it and insured it for our little trip here.
15:00 [MUSIC]
15:07 >> So far so good.
15:08 [BLANK_AUDIO]
15:11 >> You want to turn it up?
15:11 [BLANK_AUDIO]
15:15 >> Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
15:15 Easy, easy.
15:16 Let it warm up.
15:18 >> You want to put a light on it?
15:19 >> Yeah.
15:20 Well, it starts.
15:21 Not running real good yet, but we're gonna put a timing light on it and
15:25 get the screwdriver out and try to get it running a little bit better.
15:28 [BLANK_AUDIO]
15:38 >> Might do a burnout.
15:43 >> That's fixed.
15:44 It was firing the ignition timing eight degrees after top dead center.
15:48 It actually wants to be about 16 before, so we set it up there and the thing purred.
15:53 It's unbelievable.
15:54 We actually wrapped up a bunch of stuff on the Merc in one day.
15:57 We hopped in with the dog and with Gambino and
16:00 took off to find out what disasters were gonna await us next.
16:03 [BLANK_AUDIO]
16:07 >> Sounds funky.
16:08 >> It's way better.
16:09 >> This is gonna take some getting used to.
16:11 All right.
16:12 I feel like I'm driving a land yacht right now.
16:14 [BLANK_AUDIO]
16:16 >> Cool.
16:18 I give him 25 yards before he finds out if it does a burnout.
16:21 [BLANK_AUDIO]
16:24 >> Heard a little squeak.
16:25 >> Yeah.
16:26 [BLANK_AUDIO]
16:28 >> The windshield is not tall enough.
16:30 >> All the dirt is flying out of the floorboards and into your eye.
16:35 >> All right, ready for the brake test?
16:37 >> Brake test.
16:37 [SOUND]
16:38 >> Yeah.
16:39 >> Good brakes.
16:40 >> Not bad.
16:41 [BLANK_AUDIO]
16:44 >> Wow.
16:45 >> Yeah.
16:45 >> A lot of dirt.
16:47 We probably should have vacuumed the turds out of this.
16:49 [BLANK_AUDIO]
16:52 >> Yeah.
16:53 >> There we go.
16:53 >> Get some.
16:54 [BLANK_AUDIO]
16:59 >> Not terrifyingly fast.
17:01 I'm calling that a 396.
17:03 [LAUGH]
17:04 >> Even if it is a 454.
17:06 [MUSIC]
17:07 >> Is he behind us?
17:08 I don't wanna look.
17:08 >> I don't know.
17:10 >> Is there any chrome I can look in a reflection to see if he's behind us?
17:13 >> No.
17:14 >> Welcome to my peripheral vision.
17:16 [LAUGH]
17:18 >> He's holding up his camera.
17:19 [LAUGH]
17:21 >> That's not suspicious at all.
17:22 >> Nice work.
17:23 [BLANK_AUDIO]
17:28 >> Wow, that's gutless.
17:30 >> Yeah.
17:31 [MUSIC]
17:32 >> Turns out there was a cop sitting back there at the light, but
17:35 we managed not to get pulled over and
17:37 headed back to Gambino's one last time before hitting the road.
17:40 >> Gambino asked us to sign the door, which is really cool because he seems like
17:44 his top heroes that come here to visit.
17:46 Number one, Gene Winfield, and Frank DeRosa Sr.
17:50 And mine's missing something.
17:52 >> There you go.
17:53 They'll know you were here.
17:55 >> Yeah.
17:55 >> While we were at Gambino's, I was posting some photos on Instagram, and
17:59 there was a kid who recognized where we were.
18:01 And he was right in the area at 16 years old with his first car, a 51 Pontiac.
18:07 So before we hit the road in America, we decided to cruise by his place and
18:10 check it out.
18:11 Cool, how long have you had it?
18:14 >> A month and a half.
18:15 >> Did you pinstripe it and everything?
18:17 >> My uncle pinstriped it.
18:18 >> Is this your very first car?
18:19 >> Yeah, very first car.
18:21 >> What do you have under the hood?
18:22 >> A 350.
18:24 >> We're gonna get smoked.
18:25 >> Yeah, and is it a stock front suspension?
18:27 >> Yep. >> Yep.
18:28 That's gotta be fun.
18:29 And this is your mom's truck?
18:32 >> Yeah.
18:32 >> My car in high school wasn't nearly as cool as this one.
18:35 I'm glad you're keeping the flame burning.
18:37 >> Don't forget your dog.
18:39 >> Dog, what?
18:40 >> Pissing on a smart car right now.
18:41 >> Our dog?
18:43 Well, your dog.
18:43 Dumb dog.
18:46 >> [LAUGH]
18:48 >> Your neighbors are gonna hate us.
18:50 >> She peed on her leash.
18:51 Come here.
18:51 I got the dog.
18:54 [LAUGH]
18:55 [SOUND]
19:01 >> Weak.
19:03 [MUSIC]
19:07 It's Sunday on Roadkill.
19:09 Last night it was pretty funny.
19:10 We actually stayed in a high end hotel and
19:12 believe it or not they did not allow dogs.
19:14 So we went ahead and brought the dog inside.
19:17 That went pretty well.
19:17 Had to smuggle her back out this morning.
19:19 Went to a gas station and made a major environmental hazard.
19:22 [LAUGH]
19:25 Wow, that's hideous.
19:27 That is gonna be a trail of fire following us the whole way.
19:30 [SOUND]
19:35 >> Pretty good.
19:36 >> We're only smoking a lot.
19:38 >> Let's test out the sway bars.
19:40 Everybody lean.
19:41 [MUSIC]
19:47 Can I get a GPS reading?
19:50 Tell me how fast I'm going?
19:51 I'll be driving by engine noise from now on.
19:53 We have no tachometer or speedometer.
19:56 >> Ooh, getting daring.
19:59 >> I feel like we should be robbing a bank right now and
20:01 then going surfing cuz we got no roof.
20:03 [MUSIC]
20:07 The door is just a little high.
20:09 >> No, no, it's perfect.
20:10 You gotta get your, that's gangster lean right there.
20:13 >> It's just a little high though.
20:14 >> That's the look.
20:15 Cuz right now my arm's getting chafed on the plasma-cutted door seam here.
20:20 >> Well, maybe that's the actual problem.
20:21 >> Yeah.
20:22 [MUSIC]
20:24 This car's full of good intentions.
20:26 Look at that.
20:27 Really expensive wiring harness.
20:29 Poorly installed.
20:31 >> Big block Chevy making a lot less power than a big block Chevy.
20:35 >> You throw two or $300,000 at this thing.
20:38 >> Man.
20:39 >> You'll have a $20,000 automobile.
20:41 [MUSIC]
20:44 >> Well, we only had to drive 160 miles down to Paso Robles to deliver this car.
20:48 The first hour of driving this thing actually went pretty well.
20:51 And then it started to get really hot outside and
20:54 naturally the car started to overheat.
20:56 [MUSIC]
20:57 This thing is gonna puke.
21:01 Where's the air, Chuck?
21:02 Where's the water?
21:03 [MUSIC]
21:05 It's not puking.
21:06 That scares me even more.
21:08 We were freaking out at the gauge, like, touching 250 when we would stop and
21:12 going down the freeway at 230, which is way too hot.
21:15 So we thought it was overheating.
21:17 We cooled it off.
21:17 [MUSIC]
21:18 >> Well, there was water in it.
21:20 >> Yep.
21:21 >> Apparently it wasn't overheating.
21:23 The gauge just sucks bad.
21:25 >> We're gonna let it cool down a little bit more, get the cap off,
21:27 fill it up with water.
21:28 Not crack the block because it's not overheating, and
21:31 then hit the road again, and ignore the gauge.
21:33 [MUSIC]
21:35 [SOUND]
21:45 After a bunch of times pulling over, thinking it was overheating, and
21:49 then maybe it's not, and then trusting the gauge, and then not.
21:52 We got to like six miles of Jim's vineyard, and
21:55 it was obvious this thing was in nuclear meltdown mode.
21:58 [SOUND]
22:02 >> That's hot.
22:03 That's really hot.
22:03 Come on.
22:05 >> Hey, the hood hinge came undone.
22:07 >> Well, that's convenient.
22:08 >> Can you grab that bolt out of that pocket there?
22:10 >> Does that go right here?
22:11 [SOUND]
22:13 >> That hurt.
22:14 [LAUGH]
22:15 >> Man.
22:17 >> Whoo!
22:18 So the last time we pulled over and the gauge said 240-ish degrees,
22:21 nothing happened.
22:22 It actually wasn't that hot.
22:23 This time, when the gauge said 250, we pulled over and
22:26 it puked its guts out everywhere.
22:28 [MUSIC]
22:29 >> It's a good thing this is one of our shorter trips,
22:31 because this is gonna get real old real fast.
22:33 We're only six miles from where we need to be.
22:36 >> So what do we do?
22:37 We do what we always do, take the hood off.
22:39 That's the obvious fix.
22:40 [SOUND]
22:49 >> [LAUGH]
22:51 >> It doesn't sound happy now that I've done that.
22:53 >> It does not.
22:53 >> Whoa!
22:55 [LAUGH]
23:00 >> Why is it waiting to the very end of the trip for
23:01 the wheels to come off of this thing?
23:03 >> I don't know.
23:04 [MUSIC]
23:05 >> I was genuinely concerned about bringing this car to its new owner,
23:08 cuz he'd never driven it, he'd never really seen it.
23:12 And it showed up with the hood in the back seat.
23:14 >> The Merc's owner was there with his dad and with his little kid.
23:19 And I'll tell you, any doubts I had about this car melted away immediately,
23:23 because when this guy saw his Merc for the first time, his eyes were just huge.
23:28 The guy glowed like he couldn't believe it.
23:30 And he knew the car was rough, but it didn't matter, because it made him happy.
23:34 And best of all, his little kid was bouncing off the walls.
23:38 >> That's a father and son driving their new hot rod, new to them anyway.
23:42 [MUSIC]
23:44 Look at that, best day at work ever right there.
23:46 [MUSIC]
23:48 Woo!
23:49 >> Hey little chap, you're doing great.
23:52 You've been awesome.
23:54 >> Next generation of hot rod right there.
