European Editor Paul Horrell goes over the many details of this prototype of the Porsche 918 Spyder.

00:00 Well, this isn't exactly beautiful, but it is very special.
00:03 It's the first ever rolling chassis prototype
00:07 of Porsche's new limited-edition hypercar, the 918 Spyder.
00:11 It shares almost nothing with any current or previous Porsche,
00:16 and it's a full plug-in hybrid.
00:18 Under there is a 4.6-litre, 570 horsepower,
00:24 9,000 rpm gasoline V8.
00:28 In tandem with an electric motor,
00:30 that feeds through a seven-speed PDK transmission,
00:33 which is under there, and there's a battery under there.
00:36 And at the front of the car, there's a further electric motor.
00:40 Total system power of all that lot is 770 horsepower.
00:44 Porsche reckons that the top speed will be well over 200 miles an hour,
00:49 and it'll get to 60 miles an hour in quite a lot under three seconds.
00:53 So it's not a tree-hugging hybrid, it's a performance hybrid in a big way.
00:58 (PORSCHE 918 SPYDER)
01:00 This car is only seven weeks old.
01:06 It's been running 24 hours a day since it was first built in December.
01:11 And as you can see from the inside,
01:13 data acquisition and calibration of the 55 ECUs in the car
01:18 has been a priority at the moment.
