00:00 Starting with Everton, a really tough result on the weekend, losing to Luton Town at home.
00:07 This is a game where you went into it and you thought Everton might be in and around that area again this season,
00:14 but they can't lose this game and it all seemingly went wrong.
00:17 What sort of changes does Deutsch have to make going forward now?
00:21 I don't think they can not lose. I think they can not afford to win, to be honest with you.
00:26 When they get back to the international break, they've got a real tough run of fictions as well.
00:31 They've got the Merseyside derby against Liverpool, they've got West Ham and Brighton, I think it is.
00:35 If Everton don't pick up anything at this game, then you're looking at it thinking,
00:39 'Where do the next games of Everton pick points up from?'
00:42 Just going back to Saturday, it just seems the same old story really.
00:49 Everton starting the game well, creating a few chances, conceding a goal,
00:53 and then they run out of ideas, to be quite frank.
00:57 The second half was really poor, just aimless lumps into the box to Calvert-Lewin and Beto.
01:04 No real patterns of play, to be honest with you.
01:08 I can't remember the looting keeper making a save in the second half.
01:12 He gobbled everything up that was in the air, sold the defenders, it was meat and drink for them.
01:16 More goals conceded from set pieces.
01:20 Sean's no doubt going to make changes to his team now.
01:23 You're probably looking at the full-backs, that's the young,
01:28 disappointers on the right, Crossan, really been so lacklustre since he arrived.
01:36 You'd thought of his experience, he'd be someone who'd be able to consistently hit blue shares,
01:41 but that's not proving the case.
01:43 Vitaly Mikhalenko got caught out the back post for Carlin Morris' goal,
01:47 which I do feel a little bit sorry for Mikhalenko.
01:50 He should have probably, we're not privy to, he probably should have communicated better,
01:55 or maybe he should have just picked up Morris, the danger man, rather than the other player.
01:59 But Everton should have been better organised, he should have had real leaders who sourced that out.
02:04 In the midfield, Sean's just, he tries to get James Garner into his team,
02:10 which a lot of fans are advocating, but he's starting wide right.
02:16 At home, you're playing 4-5-1 to Luton.
02:19 I mean, these are the games that Everton have to go and take it to teams.
02:25 I think we've all seen the stats now that come out at Everton.
02:29 The home, the former Goodson Parking Community promoted sides,
02:33 it just shows that Everton struggle when they have to take games to the opposition.
02:38 I think Everton have got to go more on the front foot now and have more of an attacking threat,
02:43 because there was only two out-and-outs forwards who started that Luton game.
02:50 That was Dominic Calvert-Loony scores, and Dwight McNeil, who again, his role was a little bit uncertain at times,
02:57 drifting inside, trying to pick it up and know he wants to be playing for freedom.
03:01 But when you're playing 4-5-1 and the midfield's already quite packed,
03:06 then you've got McNeil moving inside as well.
03:09 It just doesn't provide the whip you need.
03:13 I'd like to see Everton go 4-3-3.
03:20 The midfield, there's a case for Garnaghey who came off at half-time.
03:24 I think Everton looked worse without Garnaghey on the pitch, to be honest with you.
03:28 There's a case for Amadou Ognana to be benched.
03:31 He was excellent in the two games before, and against Bremster, Nassau and Villa.
03:36 It's just frustrating because he's got so much ability but can't find consistency.
03:41 He's a young player, so that's a mitigating factor.
03:44 Then Abdelayde Takora, at home, for all of his attributes,
03:47 he's not someone who really can look after the ball as well as some others.
03:52 You know what I mean?
03:54 Passing can be a little bit way with the time.
03:57 You've got to weigh up your middle three, maybe James Garner,
04:01 Idrissa Garnaghey and Amadou Ognana, potentially.
04:04 Then the front three, Calvert-Lewin.
04:07 Maybe a little bit of a surprise, he starts ahead of Beto.
04:10 Then you've got Jack Harrison who came on at half-time,
04:13 who's certainly an option now, you think, from the start after two games,
04:16 under his belt.
04:17 Then McNeil probably on the left, or Dan Dewmill.
04:21 Sion's ice has got to have a different approach here,
04:24 because Bournemouth will watch that and think,
04:26 "If they do that to us, then we've just got to soak up the pressure for a little bit
04:30 and maybe hit them on the break or catch them on a set piece."
04:34 Everton will capitulate, like they have done.
04:39 Yes, it changes things as Everton go on to that international break
04:43 on the back of two defeats at home, five defeats at home,
04:47 at Goodison Park this season.
04:49 Then it's a real worry and questions are going to start to be asked, I think.
04:53 Even Frank Lampard touched on how important the Goodison crowd was in his tenure.
04:57 Then Deutsch did the same last season.
05:00 They made sure that they got those results at home when they needed them.
05:03 Coming off the back of losing to Luton at home,
05:06 it will feel like that's maybe starting to fade away.
05:10 If these results carry on at home, especially at home,
05:13 is pressure mounted on Deutsch now?
05:15 Because Everton fans are not going to be happy.
05:19 Yes, I think that's what comes with Premier League management, isn't it?
05:23 If you're not picking up results, then changes are going to have to be made.
05:27 I don't think Everton fans particularly want to see another change for changes' sake.
05:34 There have been so many managers. They want a little bit of stability.
05:37 Sean Dye, he has got a little bit of credit in the bank for what he did last season.
05:43 He hasn't exactly had it easy in the summer, having to sell some assets
05:48 and having to wheel and deal in the transfer market.
05:52 Kevin Fellow, losing Alex Owobi on deadline day.
05:56 Demaree Gray, if Everton had those two options and squabbled,
06:01 they would be looking a lot healthier now.
06:03 Alex Owobi said he didn't want to lose.
06:06 For all his goals and assists, he gave you a lot of industry and creativity, to be fair to him.
06:12 I don't think Everton is a fixture list, if you compare it.
06:17 It hasn't exactly been difficult.
06:19 Fulham are home, Wolves are home, Sheffield's United away.
06:23 Obviously, looting at home, that's potentially...
06:27 Everton could have had 12 points on paper.
06:31 A lot of fans would have been looking at them.
06:33 They're all winnable games. I don't disagree with them, to be quite frank.
06:37 We've been unlucky. I've had some good performances.
06:41 I haven't found my back of the net.
06:43 Some injuries as well, those are clear enough.
06:46 But the home form, it's going to be imperative for Everton.
06:51 They haven't picked up a point at home this season.
06:53 They've scored one goal out in four games.
06:56 I think Sean Dyche has now lost nine of his 14 games at Goodson Park.
07:01 Which, OK, last season was some difficulties.
07:06 But, yes, that record is poor, to be quite frank.
07:13 If Everton's form on the road doesn't improve, it's a good win at Brentford.
07:17 Villa, all right, it was in the cup, but they made changes.
07:21 I think that was maybe clouded a little bit, that win, to be honest with you.
07:24 It was a great win, let's make no bones about it.
07:26 But if Villa were full strength, would that have resulted in results?
07:30 Probably not.
07:31 Now they've got the likes of Liverpool coming up.
07:36 I don't think many supporters are looking at Everton and thinking they'll get anything out of that game.
07:41 West Ham as well, West Ham have started the season in real good form.
07:46 But then it comes down to the case of if maybe a decision was going to be made over Sean Dyche's future,
07:53 who makes it?
07:54 Because with the ongoing takeover going on, if I had my share,
07:59 will he really want to make a footballing decision if he's got a couple of weeks,
08:06 a couple of months left as a majority shareholder?
08:12 Seven partners, well, it's no guarantee that this takeover is going to go through
08:20 when you're hearing some of the stuff that's reportedly coming out of, you know,
08:24 Nalfasco de Gama in Brazil, being slapped with a transfer ban because of mispaid payments.
08:30 So maybe that's not a foregone conclusion, that's going to happen.
08:34 It comes down to the director of football, Kevin Fellwell.
08:37 But he's in more football operations than when it comes to management, etc.
08:42 So I don't know. Obviously, Everton fans won't be hoping to get to that case.
08:46 They'll be hoping there's a win against Bournemouth.
08:49 You can have a couple of weeks off then and Dyche can start working on things.
08:53 Some players will be away, but the large bulk of his squad will be there to try to work on things,
09:01 get some players up to speed, like Harrison and Beto, helping McClaren a little bit more.
09:06 But yeah, if Everton do lose to Bournemouth or maybe even draw,
09:11 then you'll be able to see that the pressure is going to be mounting on them, to be quite honest.
09:17 And I think Sean's eyes should know that he's not naive to that sort of stuff as well.
09:23 Well, on Liverpool, obviously a huge controversy over the weekend in their game with Spurs.
09:30 They played well and were quite harsh, really, to lose the game in the end.
09:34 What's the sort of situation with this VAR letter that they've written and the appeal they've made?
09:40 Because they seem like they're certainly not happy about that.
09:44 Yeah, I don't think Liverpool, obviously, ideally they wouldn't have wanted it to have panned out this way.
09:55 But this is unfortunately, I think, they want change for the game.
09:59 And maybe this is the catalyst that's needed, because there have been quite a few VAR decisions
10:05 that have gone against teams and it can have significant impacts.
10:11 We all know the money that's involved in football these days.
10:14 And if Liverpool ended up a point outside of the top four at the end of the season,
10:20 or three points outside, whatever, then you look at this and think,
10:24 well, they might have cost us, say, at least £50-60 million for not being in the Champions League.
10:31 So yeah, Liverpool obviously released a statement.
10:34 They want transparency and now they want the audio footage from the PG MOL to be released to them.
10:43 What happened with Darren England, and obviously you've had all the stuff about him being in the UAE
10:50 just 48 hours before officiating. Will that change now?
10:55 Will referees be solely tied down to one association unless it's in Europe, maybe? I don't know.
11:03 It has gone a little bit ugly. I don't think anyone would like to hear this come out this way.
11:09 But I think Liverpool just want a little bit of justice, really, for what exactly went on in that room.
11:16 Why wasn't Darren England said, it's clearly on the microphone, no goal.
11:24 Can you check that for offsides? Can you check if that was the right decision?
11:29 Maybe, you know, like the cricket sort of, suppose, you know, you clearly get a decision,
11:36 like you know what decision is being made and it's quite clear and you see what's happening
11:41 with the third umpire when they go and check it. Does that need to happen in the Premier League?
11:49 No, a lot of people have been calling that for a while.
11:53 Yeah, so I think maybe by the middle of this week it'll all be hopefully come to a head.
12:00 Jadon Clough will probably speak about it when he speaks before the Pools Europa League
12:06 and the game against Royal Union St Galloy. Maybe give a little bit more of an update.
12:12 But it's not something you want to see at this level. You want to see, you know,
12:16 the hours brought in to eradicate these mistakes and when this high profile,
12:22 especially when you don't even see the lines getting drawn, which is just pretty bizarre, really, wasn't it?
12:28 That's the first thing that you always see. I mean, you know, even if you think it's onside,
12:33 surely you should be drawing the lines anyway. If that's the case, you should be saying to goal.
12:38 And yeah, it's not a pleasant situation. And I think quite a few managers this week
12:43 at the pre-match press conference are going to be asked on their take on it.
12:47 And looking at Liverpool's final Premier League game before the next international break, Brighton,
12:53 you know, they've shown some inconsistency this season, really.
12:56 I mean, they've had some fantastic wins, the likes of Newcastle, for example.
13:02 Man United as well. And then they go and lose to Villa.
13:06 And, you know, it's been a very indifferent season for them so far.
13:10 But when they're at their peak, they are a very, very good team under Roberto Deserbe.
13:14 Is this another chance for Klopp to, you know, get back and really put pressure on City
13:20 after they sort of lost as well this weekend?
13:22 Yeah, I think that's what probably made Liverpool's frustrations even worse, to be honest,
13:28 that City had a chance to take advantage of a rare City defeat there, to be honest.
13:33 And yeah, I mean, Brighton, look, Liverpool went down there last season and got absolutely obliterated.
13:40 You know, getting Klopp called one of his worst days in management.
13:44 It was a real lacklustre performance.
13:48 But that was at a period when Liverpool were probably at their lowest ever.
13:51 I think that period was around they got beat there, and then maybe there was that Wolves game as well
13:55 when they were absolutely abysmal at Molineux as well.
13:59 And Liverpool are in a much better position now.
14:02 I mean, even after that loss to Tottenham, you know, it might create a real siege mentality around Anfield.
14:09 And they had their probably thinking that they can go and get a result against Brighton.
14:15 Sighs, who as well will be a bit of a wounded animal.
14:18 They might be dangerous after that Villa loss.
14:20 But, you know, Liverpool going there without Kosey Gaspar who's injured, Diogo Dias has ruled out suspension.
14:27 Curtis Jones, is that going to get overturned?
14:29 I mean, for me, I can't see it because it went to the monitor.
14:33 And I'm a little bit surprised that Liverpool have appealed it.
14:36 But just I think the events that have gone on with the officiating, that's what's made them appeal.
14:41 Yeah, Brighton, magnificent team on the day, they can cause any team a problem.
14:50 Liverpool have obviously got that Europa League game to negotiate first.
14:55 Klopp probably make changes so his team's fresh.
14:58 Maybe give Alexander-Arnold a game in the Europa League just to get him back up to speed.
15:04 And then maybe he features at Brighton.
15:06 And it'd be interesting to see if Jones isn't available, who might come in in the midfield.
15:12 Will Jürgen Klopp move Alexis McAllister further up the pitch?
15:17 Because that was what he was brought to do from Brighton.
15:19 Of course, he excels as a number eight for them.
15:22 And that's why Liverpool went and bought him in the summer.
15:25 But then who shields the defence then?
15:27 Who plays in the number six?
15:28 Do you bring Guataro Enzo or Ryan Gravenberchie in?
15:32 These are the selection decisions that Jürgen Klopp will have to make.
15:36 But sometimes for a manager, he'd obviously want every player fit.
15:42 But sometimes that's what they get into management for.
15:45 They want these problems, they want to cope with the headaches and the solutions to these headaches.
15:50 So I think if you asked a lot of fans, would you take a point, they'd probably say yes.
15:57 But because Liverpool's form this season, what they did at Tottenham against Ten Men,
16:00 and defending doggedly with Neyman until Joel Matip's own goal.
16:05 Maybe Liverpool, some supporters are thinking,
16:09 "Why are we just thinking that Joel's going to be enough?"
16:11 Because it might not be enough.
16:13 You've got to match Man City's results really.
16:15 And I think that's what made it so much more annoying the other night.
16:19 Because if he has a chance to take advantage, then there's not going to be too many of them.
16:23 But yeah, big game for the Reds before the international break as well.
16:26 And then obviously the Merseyside derby.
16:28 After that game, and the derby's clock always says no one ever really will remember performances in derbies.
16:36 It's just so tight and you can't really play football.
16:40 Maybe that's more so good as Liverpool have had more joy at Anfield.
16:46 Because they got beaten that COVID season.
16:49 But certainly for the most part, they've had more joy at Anfield.
16:52 And you can play a little bit more football and say it was a good symbol.
16:55 You'd still be thinking now as well, it's a tough game.
16:58 But yeah, for me, I did get a point for Brighton.
17:02 You can probably take that and move on.
