00:18 Like it's pretty surprising to think about how much Meghan Markle's life has changed.
00:23 She used to live in Toronto, Canada and act in a popular TV show called Suits.
00:36 And then she fell in love with Prince Harry and became part of the royal family.
00:41 Then their wedding was seen as a very beautiful moment, even for those watching it on TV.
00:47 They felt like they were really a part of it.
00:56 And then fast forward to January of 2020, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry surprised the
01:01 whole world by saying that they're going to be leaving the royal family.
01:12 And this decision led Meghan's father, Thomas, as well as her half-sister, Samantha, to talk
01:19 to the media a lot more.
01:21 And Meghan's relationship with her half-sister got quite messy.
01:34 Before Meghan Markle became an actress on Suits, she grew up in Los Angeles, California,
01:39 and she attended a private school.
01:41 Meghan's mom, Doria Ragland, had been supportive of her, and Meghan made sure that her mother
01:47 was a significant part of her new royal life.
01:53 But when it comes to Meghan's half-sister, it's a different story.
01:57 They don't seem to have a good relationship at all.
02:00 Like Samantha Markle, Meghan's half-sister, has spoken about Meghan on several occasions.
02:05 In a documentary called Thomas Markle, My Story, in it, Samantha Markle expressed her
02:12 disappointment in Meghan and Prince Harry leaving the royal family.
02:17 And this is what she had to say, and I quote, "With Meghan and Harry separating from the
02:22 royals, it's disappointing to me because she actually got every girl's dream.
02:28 Every young girl wanted to become a princess and she got that and now she's tossing that
02:33 away.
02:34 It looks like she's tossing that away for money."
02:37 Now when Meghan and Harry had their much-anticipated interview with Oprah in March of 2021, Meghan
02:44 shared that she had suffered from depression and she was desperately seeking help.
02:55 Samantha Markle, however, didn't have much sympathy about Meghan Markle saying that.
02:59 She actually went out to criticize Meghan for using depression as an excuse and claimed
03:04 Meghan had treated her poorly.
03:07 Samantha even wrote a book titled The Diary of Princess Pushy's Sister.
03:20 And Meghan Markle had mentioned during her interview with Oprah that it had been about
03:25 20 years since they had any significant contact.
03:29 Meghan ended up disputing Samantha's claim of having a relationship.
03:33 She says that "Nuh-uh, we didn't even have a relationship.
03:35 What's Samantha talking about?"
03:36 This is what Meghan said in her own words, "I think it would be very hard to tell all
03:41 when you don't know me."
03:43 Samantha, however, she argues that they in fact did know each other and they had college
03:49 graduation photo together as proof.
03:52 Meghan Markle believes that Samantha Markle is in fact seeking attention and she's just
03:58 trying to get famous.
04:00 Meghan shared with Oprah that Samantha started using the last name Markle and became way
04:06 more involved in the public eye after Meghan became famous through her relationship with
04:11 Prince Harry.
04:13 Meghan went on to clarify that she grew up as an only child and she last saw Samantha
04:18 about 18 or 19 or so, maybe 20 years prior, with a 10 year gap before that interaction.
04:26 And it appeared that Samantha did not like this at all because Samantha ended up suing
04:30 Meghan, alleging defamation over Meghan's statement in the Oprah interview where she
04:36 called herself an only child.
04:38 However, a Florida judge dismissed the lawsuit in early 2023.
04:44 The judge ruled that Meghan was just expressing her opinion about her childhood and her relationship
04:49 with her half-sibling.
04:51 And since that statement was a pure expression of opinion, it couldn't be proven false
04:56 in a legal sense, leading to the dismissal of the lawsuit.
05:01 So yeah, this is getting pretty nasty.
05:04 And Samantha Markle has also said that she's going to make a counterclaim to try to sue
05:09 Meghan again.
05:11 Who knows if it's going to go through this time.
05:13 But yeah, when you look at their relationship, it's a lot of she said, she said.
