00:00 The Sussex 6 campaign is about getting shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes to stock six new
00:11 locally produced items on their menus. They're only going to do it with customer support
00:16 because Sussex is some of the best food and drink producers in the country. If you support
00:20 your local pubs, cafes, shops and restaurants who stock these products, it will only help
00:25 the environment and the local economy.
00:29 Three things make our beef so special. The first one is the breeding, the Wagyu cross.
00:34 We put it over a Sussex or Angus cow. They're native breeds, they give you that lovely local
00:38 beefy flavour. The second thing is it's a high welfare herd, so it's a suckler herd.
00:43 The calves run with their mums until they're eight months of age before they're weaned,
00:47 which means they get a chance to bond and to grow naturally with plenty of milk from
00:51 mum. And the third thing is the environmental aspect, which is that we're a regenerative
00:55 agriculture here. We're raising the cattle on herbal lays, which is mixed species, much
00:59 better for the soil life, much better for the organic matter, much better for the climate.
01:04 So we work closely with local pubs and restaurants here in Sussex. We find that for them, having
01:09 a local producer is actually first choice. Their customers often ask them, where does
01:13 your beef come from? And they want to know it's a local product. But also for the chefs
01:17 themselves, there's an added advantage, which is they get a consistency of supply. And we
01:22 meet many customers nowadays on the farm and in restaurants locally who will tell us, you
01:27 know, once you've tried the Wagyu cross, you ain't going back. And that's because it's
01:30 a special product.
01:35 Buying local is really important to us. We've got lots of local food producers who concentrate
01:39 on really high quality produce and on the sustainability of what they produce. So if
01:43 you buy local food, you're keeping the money in the local economy and helping reduce your
01:47 food miles. So in Sussex, we're known for having a really wide variety of producers
01:53 and the food really does taste great. So we've created the Sussex Six campaign to help people
01:58 find local producers so that you can buy and eat local.
02:03 If there's one key message, it's visit Sussexfoodanddrink.org to find out which local businesses are supporting
02:09 the Sussex Six campaign by selling six new Sussex products. Find those businesses and
02:13 support them.
