Music in Mind host their Dementia Friendly Music Cafe at Wigan and Leigh College Wheel Restaurant, Wigan. The event has been running for seven years and returned after a summer break to a rugby-themed event, as Wigan Warrior legends, including Billy Boston were joined by current players and the Wigan Warriors Rugby Memories Group.

00:21 Hello, my name's Al Hart from Music In Mind. We're a Wigan-based company that specialise in working with Alzheimer's and dementia, providing live music as a way of tapping into old memories.
00:35 As you can see here today, we've got quite a bit of that going on. We've got some of the old legends from Wigan Rugby.
00:44 This is our first week back after the summer recess, and as you can see, it's a great turnout today. We're really excited.
00:51 We've got a new sponsor called Riverside Plumbing who's donated some money to keep this project going of ours, so we feel very blessed.

01:11 A lot of people want to know what music brings to somewhere like this.
01:16 People with Alzheimer's and dementia can't remember a lot of things that recently occurred, but the memories of the songs tap into something magical,
01:26 maybe when they were a teenager, which is quite a poignant part of their life.
01:32 Sometimes people are crying because it's bringing back those memories, for instance, and you start singing "Kesar, Kesarar, Sarar" or "You Are My Sunshine".
01:42 Those things have a personal meaning to a lot of these people, and you can see that in the fairties.
