00:03 - Okay, North Carolina,
00:04 some changes coming to sports betting there.
00:07 I know that you guys and you in particular featured this
00:09 over at Legal Sports Report, your column, your article.
00:12 So fire away, what's going on there?
00:14 - Yeah, so North Carolina, sure enough,
00:17 in their budget kind of changed
00:19 the sports betting language.
00:20 Nothing changes in terms of its legality.
00:23 This is sports betting in 2024 in North Carolina
00:26 will happen.
00:28 It just changed the language.
00:29 The biggest part of it was rather than just kind of having
00:33 an open market where you could have up to 12 sports books,
00:36 now the sports books have to have a written agreement
00:39 with a sports organization in the state,
00:41 be it an NFL team, a golf course.
00:44 They also changed the language to be a governing body.
00:47 So both NASCAR and PGA Tour have multiple events
00:50 in North Carolina.
00:51 So they have been granted the ability to partner
00:55 with a sports book operator.
00:58 So that's kind of the biggest change in terms of that.
01:02 I had sources telling me that it might be detrimental
01:07 to the program to get it off the ground.
01:10 They're supposed to launch between January 8th
01:14 and June 14th under the law.
01:17 This change might change that in terms of the lottery
01:21 being able to get it up and running.
01:23 We'll see.
01:25 There's actually a lottery meeting right now going on
01:28 that I had to put Matt Waters on
01:30 that's talking about the updates.
01:32 And we do know that they will continue to try to launch
01:36 before that June deadline.
01:38 Of course, they're gonna say that.
01:40 We'll see if that happens.
01:41 We've seen a lot of states,
01:42 including one we'll talk about in a second,
01:44 launching a shorter timeframe.
01:47 So it's certainly possible that they get up,
01:50 you know, anytime between January and June.
01:53 Just a few strange changes, but nothing major.
01:57 North Carolinians will still be able to bet in 2024.
