00:00 We're here at Dawlish where we're making great progress on our new accessible station footbridge.
00:06 The footbridge has lifts which means that passengers with heavy luggage or young children
00:10 or who have mobility issues will be able to cross from one side of the station to the other unaided.
00:16 I'm up on the footbridge where you can see the lift shaft behind me so we're still building the lifts inside
00:22 and alongside me the parapets where we just need to put the glazing in.
00:26 The footbridge doesn't have a roof that's partly so that on a day like today you can enjoy the brilliant sea views behind me.
00:32 It's also so that we can make sure that in stormy conditions we've made the structure really robust
00:38 without having to put a huge roof on which because the station is grade 2 listed
00:42 we didn't want the footbridge to over dominate the station.
00:46 The old footbridge which does have a roof will remain open for people who wish to use it.
00:52 Previously at Dawlish the waves sometimes reached the platform and made waiting for a train a rather wet experience
00:58 but now we've built the new sea wall we've made sure that many more of the waves are deflected back out to sea.
01:04 We've also built a shield wall so that the new footbridge stairs are protected as well.
