Environmental activist and singer has spoken out against the regulation of the water industry, labelling it a “shambles.” He said that Ofwat has failed to ensure that water companies provide an appropriate supply of water to customers.
Water companies will pay out a net total of £114 million to bill-payers after failing to meet key targets on reducing pollution, leakage and supply interruptions while customer satisfaction continues to fall, Ofwat said. 00:00 think the whole regulation of the water industry is a shambles. It always has been and I think it's
00:07 fairly certain at this point in time and it should be that when and if there is a change
00:12 of government at the next election any new and coven government now needs to sit down and very
00:18 critically review the regulation and oversight of the water industry because the one thing we
00:24 can say for certain it has utterly failed. 25 million people living in London and the southeast
00:31 of England are now on the cusp of running out of water. The national audit office think we need to
00:38 find another 30 percent more water by 2050. The investment has never been made, the planning's
00:44 never been implemented, our sewage function system is dysfunctional and water companies
00:50 are blatantly deliberately ignoring any plea or begging from the regulator to go and sort
00:57 themselves out. Of what and the regulatory system and the EA need to get off their knees,
01:03 pull on their big boy trousers and start behaving like a grown-up regulator.
