Super Sporty, A Big Reveal of the New Micra EV, New Nissan Concept 20-23
Strip away all the race car bits from the Nissan Concept 20-23 and you've got the brand's upcoming all-electric entry-level hatchback for Europe.
Senior executives from Nissan were in London today to celebrate the unveiling of the Concept 20-23, an all-electric show car designed to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Nissan Design Europe (NDE) making the city its home. More importantly, it was there to surprise the world with a forward-looking look at what the Micra replacement would look like.
Nissan says it turned to NDE's youngest designers when creating this concept car and placed few restrictions on them. The result is a car with exaggerated proportions, wide wheel arches and a large rear spoiler.
"The young team at NDE was given a simple brief: Design a fun electric city car you'd want to drive every day in London," said Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan's senior vice president of global design. “The 20-23 Concept they designed is a compact hatchback strongly influenced by the world of online racing.
This means a race car interior with bucket seats, a square steering fork, multi-point harnesses and a kickstand that young drivers as well as designers will have to climb on. Moreover, it has Lamborghini-style scissor doors.
Take away the massive wheel arches, the massive spoiler, as well as the bumpers and skirts that cover the road, and you'll get an idea of what the car will look like. Details such as large round headlights and taillights, bodywork and hatchback shape are expected to be seen in the upcoming model.
Scheduled to enter production in 2026, Nissan announced in January 2022 that the model will be based on the CMF B-EV platform used by Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance vehicles such as the Renault 5 and Alpine A290.
The Japanese company said that the yet-to-be-named production vehicle will be "designed by Nissan, engineered and produced by Renault." Although performance details have not yet been shared, its platform mate, the Renault 5, is expected to have a range of 250 miles (402 km) and an engine producing 134 hp (100 kW/136 PS) at the front.
Nissan is likely targeting a starting price of less than 25,000 euros ($26,482 at current exchange rates); This means that the production version of this vehicle will be a big difference from the Concept 20-23. But removing race car parts will probably make driving in London nicer; although it's a little less exciting to look at.
