Successful jazz musician C.K. Dexter-Haven has divorced the wealthy Tracy Samantha Lord, nicknamed "Miss Frigidaire", but is still in love with her. Tracy, however, is about to remarry George Kittredge, a wealthy self-made businessman. The intriguing Mike Connor is a journalist tasked, together with his fellow photographer Liz Imbrie, to cover the wedding on behalf of the press, but he also falls in love with Tracy.

She must choose between three very different men, in a path of introspective training.
