The state government expects some 45,000 affordable housing units to be built in Selangor by year end, exceeding its initial target of 30,000 such units, said Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor Mentri Besar said that after witnessing the key handover ceremony of 420 units of Pangsapuri Selangorku @ Seri Temenggung in Batu Caves on Friday (Sept 22).

On the proposed rejuvenation of old towns and areas in Selangor, Amirudin said there were laws and policies that needed to be amended at the federal level before such a move could be implemented.

00:25 we are confident to build 60,000.
00:28 But we are confident now by end of this year,
00:33 we manage to achieve 80,000 units of affordable house
00:38 developed by private sector from the policy of the state government.
00:43 Amiruddin, who is Songai Tua Assemblyman,
00:46 said the affordable houses developed under programmes such as
00:50 Rumah Selangor Ku, Rumah Idaman and Rumah Harapan
00:54 are priced at RM250,000 and below per unit.

01:11 A lot of issue, but the policy and the law have to be moved first,

01:21 Now the law only allows for redevelopment after we got an approval
01:26 from the residents, 100% from the residents.

01:34 that maybe the owner has already passed away,
01:37 and then the kids or the son or the daughter
01:43 not interested to stay there, that some of the building abandoned.
01:47 So I think, I thought the law we have to change under the KPP laws,
01:52 which is allow for redevelopment after got 100% agreement
01:58 from the owner of the programme.
02:01 Second, of course the infrastructure, the infrastructure in and out,
02:06 and to build more attractive buildings,
02:10 definitely we need certain incentives,
02:14 or some subsidies from the federal government.
02:24 So I think the issue is not to build the units,
02:28 but to transit the residents.
02:32 To transit the residents, definitely you have to build the house.
02:36 To build the house, that means the developer have to prepare,
02:40 it's not just a budget, but to have an extra budget,
02:44 to have a transit house.
02:46 So if we look, one of the success stories is Abdullah Hukum
02:50 and also Kerici who changed to become a South.
02:53 It was reported that the Selangor government
02:56 was requesting an injection of funds from the federal government
02:59 in the upcoming Budget 2024
03:02 to help in the rejuvenation of old towns and areas in the state.
03:07 Citing the older parts of Petaling Jaya and Ampang as examples,
03:11 Amiruddin said rejuvenation was necessary
03:14 to ensure that development in these areas could be combined
03:18 with the pace of development in the surrounding new areas.

03:52 that now houses Pangsapuri Selangor Koo
03:55 were offered a 900 sqft unit each
03:58 at a discounted price of RM65,000.

04:05 was an ex gratia payment of RM1,000 per family
04:09 and RM500 rental subsidy
04:11 until the project's vacant possession was delivered.
