00:00 Dolly Parton breaks silence about husband of 57 years.
00:03 Dolly Parton keeps her marriage to Carl Dean close to her vest.
00:06 What has she said about her husband of 57 years country music icon honored by Rock and
00:11 Roll Hall of Fame?
00:12 Dolly Parton made her career in country music, so it was a huge surprise to her when the
00:16 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame extended an invitation to join their esteemed list of indivtees.
00:21 At first, Parton didn't think she belonged with the likes of the Rolling Stones, Nirvana,
00:25 Jerry Lee Lewis, or the other 300+ members.
00:28 However, her fans disagreed, and Dolly Parton eventually gave in.
00:32 She's among the musicians inducted in 2022.
00:35 Southern Living reported that she dedicated her forthcoming rock album to her husband
00:39 during her red carpet appearance at the event.
00:41 "He loves rock and roll, he loves Led Zeppelin, and he loves Stairway to Heaven.
00:45 So I'm going to do a lot of things like that for him," she said.
00:48 Dolly Parton's full rock star album releases on November 17, but several singles are out
00:53 already, including "World on Fire."
00:55 The next single is her version of a four-non-blondes hit, "What's Up, Feet?"
00:59 Linda Perry comes out on Friday, September 22.
01:03 Why Dolly Parton Keeps Her Marriage Private?
01:05 Dolly Parton has been married for over five decades, but fans rarely get a glimpse of
01:09 her husband.
01:10 In fact, she told Entertainment Tonight in 2020 that some doubt his very existence.
01:14 However, Carl Dean is a real person, and Dolly Parton married him in May 1966, despite cautions
01:20 not to.
01:21 The couple had a private vow renewal on their 50th anniversary in 2016.
01:25 The Daily Mail reports that the couple did take photos of the vow renewal but sold them
01:29 to raise money for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library Literacy Charity.
01:33 While fans likely won't get a glimpse of the photos, Carl Dean gave his first and only
01:37 interview to help promote the charity.
01:39 He answered questions submitted by fans.
01:41 One question was his first impression of the singer.
01:44 He said, "My first thought was I'm gonna marry that girl.
01:47 My second thought was, 'Lord, she's good looking.'"
01:49 As for why she kept her marriage private, Dolly Parton shared in 2022 that her mother
01:54 influenced the decision.
01:55 Today reports that Parton said, "My mama told me when I was young, 'Always keep something
02:00 back for you.
02:01 You can give what you've got to give, but don't give it all away.'"
02:03 Rare photo of husband of 57 years
02:06 Dolly Parton prefers to keep her husband out of the limelight, but sometimes sentimentality
02:10 gets the best of her.
02:11 In November 2021, she shared a sweet snapshot on her Instagram of the couple in their younger
02:16 years.
02:17 Dolly Parton keeping her husband out of the spotlight is why their marriage has lasted
02:21 almost 60 years.

02:24 Dolly Parton's despair at divided world, "I'm almost glad I never had children."
02:28 Dolly Parton is almost glad she never had children as she hates the idea of bringing
02:32 them up in a divided world.
02:33 The Jolene singer, 77, who has been married to her husband Carl Dean for 57 years, said
02:39 she wouldn't want to raise kids in today's political climate as she thinks nobody is
02:43 willing to listen to anybody.
02:44 She told Mojo Magazine about how she and Carl have come to think of themselves as each other's
02:49 child.
02:50 "I know this sounds like a selfish, awful thing to say, but I'm almost glad I never
02:53 had children.
02:54 I worry myself to death about my nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
02:59 It seems like we're not making any progress, mostly because nobody's trying, nobody's
03:03 willing to listen to anybody else.
03:05 Everybody already knows everything.
03:06 You're going to teach your children the same thing, whether it's right or wrong.
03:10 My husband and I, we just think of ourselves as each other's child.
03:13 He's my only child, and I'm his only child."
03:16 Dolly added her family is split 50/50ths between Democrats and Republicans, meaning it is nearly
03:21 impossible for them to have a peaceful get-together.
03:24 She said, "You can't even have a Christmas dinner, especially if somebody gets drinking.
03:28 You think, 'Oh, Lord, it's not even worth it anymore.
03:31 We've lost families, we've lost friends, all because of the great divide.'
03:35 That's just politics."
03:36 Dolly has previously opened up about not having kids, telling Oprah Winfrey in a 2020 interview,
03:41 "I believe that God didn't mean for me to have kids so everybody's kids could be
03:45 mine."
03:46 She added to the chat show host, 69, not having kids gave her the time to set up her Imagination
03:51 Library initiative, which donates books to young children.
03:54 She also told The Guardian in 2016 she feared if she had kids it would have stopped her
03:58 being a star.
03:59 Dolly admitted, "I would have been a great mother, I think.
04:02 I would probably have given up everything else, because I would have felt guilty if
04:05 I had left them to go touring.
04:08 Everything would have changed.
04:09 I probably wouldn't have been a star.
