Former Crimson Tide quarterback Scott Hunter's advice to Tommy Rees and Jalen Milroe
Transcript
00:00 And my final question for you, Scott Hunter, is if you were giving advice to
00:04 Jalen Milrow or let's say the proverbial starting quarterback,
00:08 with the rest of the games on hand, you're two and one and just as you said,
00:11 the real season gets going this weekend as SEC play gets started.
00:16 What advice would you, if you had five minutes,
00:18 three minutes with the quarterback going into this weekend,
00:22 what advice would you give to the Alabama quarterbacks?
00:24 >> Well, let's go back to Tommy Reese.
00:28 If Tommy were to ask me, what can I do to get Milrow really
00:34 performing at a very successful rate, rate meaning play after play after play.
00:40 And I would say to Tommy, have a lot of three step,
00:45 two and a half to two second throws in space with post and
00:52 other kind of routes to the tight end and so forth.
00:57 Things that he can quickly read and quickly get the ball out of his hand.
01:01 And if he does a good job of that, his confidence level will grow and grow.
01:06 But he's not gonna be able to sit back there for three and four seconds and
01:12 take on the rush and deliver strikes very successfully.
01:18 And of course, if you can't, then your confidence goes downhill.
01:23 So it's kinda like playing the Pittsburgh Steelers back in my day.
01:29 You had plan A and plan B.
01:33 And plan A was everything's working fine.
01:35 We can go back five steps, hold the ball three seconds.
01:38 Plan B was, hey, we better get rid of that ball in two to two and
01:42 a half seconds cuz these guys are coming.
01:45 >> The steel curtain back there, mean, mean, mean defense back then.
01:49 That's the way I would try to prepare Jalen is give him a lot of quick reads and
01:54 quick throws that he immediately hits and picks up his confidence.
02:00 And he said, hey, I can do this.
