00:00 I think you can slice it which way you want to slice it.
00:02 That was the big factor in the game.
00:06 They did a good job of keeping everything tight inside the box and
00:12 making it hard for us to be able to get into the end zone.
00:14 And then when you settle for a couple of field goals,
00:18 now that fourth down we didn't get it early in the game.
00:21 That's the difference in the game.
00:23 And I think there was things that happened throughout the game that obviously,
00:27 if you do a little bit better, you got a chance to win.
00:30 And we didn't get it done.
00:31 So, tip your hat to Coach Martin and his staff for
00:34 what they were able to do to get that win.
00:37 But again, just very disappointed in the outcome of that game.
00:44 >> Yeah, was there anything specific in the red zone that they were doing?
00:48 Seven trips, one touchdown?
00:50 >> Not really, I mean, I think it was playing the same defense that they played.
00:54 They showed it in there and
00:55 we didn't do a good job of finding ways to get in the zone.
00:59 And a couple of times I thought we were there and just didn't get in.
01:04 Corey gets in there and then Emory scores on a Q draw that got in.
01:08 But other than that, we really didn't do a whole lot down in there.
01:12 I should go back and watch the tape.
01:13 But I thought they did a really nice job up front.
01:16 And their linebacks were playing downhill to stop the run game there.
01:20 And we just couldn't spit any out to the end zone.
01:23 >> Defensively, Glenn Gabor had nine runs, 132 yards.
01:28 What did you see from him defensively about him?
01:31 >> Yeah, I mean, he certainly hurt us with his legs.
01:34 I thought there were times we're playing man to man coverage.
01:38 And we're doubling number ten.
01:40 And so you got an extra guy outside of the box.
01:42 And then whenever he broke containment, a lot of scrimmage,
01:45 he's gonna be able to get some yards.
01:46 Now, it really hurt us quite a bit, obviously, there in the overtime.
01:50 And then there was a couple third downs where I thought he went and
01:52 got first downs there.
01:54 And it's really just our D line just standing in their lanes there and
01:58 creating too much upfield.
01:59 And then all of a sudden he just spits it out of A gap or B gap.
02:01 And that was a big part of their game.
02:03 I thought Gabor played great in the running game and
02:06 threw some balls down the field that were obviously big time throws.
02:10 >> Would you have liked to see three guys out there,
02:14 a couple of them are there, that are especially good at running back?
02:18 >> Well, I mean, I don't know, that's hard to say.
02:21 There's a lot of stuff going on at that point in time.
02:25 I think really the only one I really remember is that last one there.
02:30 But we got a couple penalties down there.
02:32 I mean, they call it, Lyman downfield, that one, we're on a two yard line.
02:37 I don't know how you call that really.
02:39 But and then we get a penalty there, we back it up, we get back to the two.
02:44 We got a holding penalty, gets to the back, we get back in there.
02:48 We're battling right there, just didn't find a way to get in there.
02:51 So it's hard to say about him.
02:52 I mean, I thought, other than a couple decisions, I thought he played really
02:55 good, I thought he played gutsy tonight.
02:57 He ran the ball hard, made some great throws.
03:00 I don't know, I mean, he rushed for 101 yards, looks like here,
03:05 and threw the ball pretty nice.
03:06 I think he liked to have the pick right before halfback when he threw that pick.
03:10 But other than that, I thought he played very solid.
03:12 >> I love that, [INAUDIBLE]
03:17 >> Well, absolutely not.
03:21 There's a miscommunication in the coverage on that play.
03:25 And no, you ask anybody in our locker room who we had to defend,
03:29 it was number ten, our whole team knew that, offense players, it didn't matter.
03:32 So that was a miscommunication, they hit that one on us.
03:35 But then after that, really, we kind of settled down.
03:38 I thought we played solid on defense, other than just a few scrambles.
03:42 And then the one drive when they hit, they had called two PIs on our guys, and
03:46 they hit the fade ball on our sideline.
03:48 But other than that, I thought our guys played solid.
03:50 >> Running game really didn't take off until the second half, right?
03:53 It was about 45 seconds, I understand.
03:56 >> Yeah, yeah, I thought, like we said in the past,
04:00 whoever's got the hot hands gonna be in there.
04:02 And I thought he did a good job of seeing it and running hard, breaking tackles.
04:06 We got the Q run game involved with that as well.
04:10 Two guys rushed for over 100.
04:12 So I mean, second half, he started clicking a little bit better.
04:14 And of course, throughout the game, they're making adjustments on defense,
04:18 we're making adjustments on offense.
04:20 And I thought, again, we moved the ball.
04:24 I mean, we had a lot of yards, which you gotta get a lot of points.
04:27 I think that's the big difference in the game.
04:28 >> A couple downfield PIs last week, again this week.
04:33 Is there something their teams are picking on?
04:37 >> I mean, they're trying.
04:38 They're trying to throw the ball one on one down the sideline.
04:40 I thought J.Y. was in good shape.
04:42 He was right on our sideline and he turns back, looks for the ball.
04:44 And they're both jockeying for position.
04:46 He turns back and we get the call.
04:48 So I mean, I don't know, it's frustrating.
04:52 And they throw the touchdown passing overtime.
04:54 And they're jockeying and he gets knocked down and they catch the touchdown.
04:58 It's just, it's frustrating.
05:00 What are we supposed to tell the corners?
05:01 How are you supposed to play that?
05:02 So we gotta do a better job of playing the ball and obviously keeping our feet.
05:07 And when guys are attacking us down the field, which I mean, you're right.
05:11 We're seeing that, we're gonna continue to see it.
05:13 Where guys are gonna one on one down the sideline and
05:16 try to make pay in that way.
05:19 Because as they're thinking, you're gonna get a P.I. or a potential catch.
05:23 Why not throw it down the sidelines?
05:25 We gotta do a better job of defending those passes.
05:27 [BLANK_AUDIO]
05:32 >> Did your handerson really had to go in the night and
05:33 pull up a catch with 140 yards worth of work on the offense?
05:36 I know he had one in the game.
05:38 >> Yeah, I mean, they were packing it in the box there and
05:40 that's why it was difficult to run the football.
05:42 It was one on one outside, so
05:44 we were trying to take advantage of that against their corners.
05:47 And he did a nice job all night of catching the ball and
05:50 underneath and getting some good yards on that.
05:52 And they were able, I think we got a lot of first downs and
05:55 moved the ball down the field again.
05:56 That wasn't the issue.
05:58 I mean, the issue again in the red zone, trying to score touchdowns.
06:01 But that's what came down to.
06:02 [BLANK_AUDIO]
06:04 >> [INAUDIBLE]
06:14 >> A couple times earlier than that,
06:15 we saw how they were lined up and it looked like it would be there.
06:19 I thought that was a good time to call it cuz you're backed up on the minus 20 or
06:22 wherever we were.
06:23 Nobody's thinking you're gonna fake it.
06:25 And we got the look and Jermon did a great job of hitting it and
06:30 locked it up and he gave us a chance.
06:32 And we're trying to win the game,
06:34 maybe 240 in the clock, maybe that point in time.
06:37 We get the ball down, we melt the clock all the way down,
06:40 knock down the field goal and we get a block.
06:42 I mean, that was obviously a big play cuz you knock that one down.
06:46 It's gonna be ball game and
06:47 we're all having a different conversation right now.
06:50 >> Two sacks from UCD last night.
06:53 What was not clicking quite as well in the pass rush?
06:57 >> Well, I think they were, number one, I think they gave her the ball pretty quick.
07:01 They do a good job of catching throw.
07:03 We were able to get to them a couple of times.
07:06 And then the other thing I thought that he did a really nice job of moving around
07:09 in the pocket.
07:10 We're trying to get in our rush lanes, our guys are getting up the field.
07:14 He's sliding one side or the other, stepping up, making some plays.
07:17 I gotta give credit to him.
07:19 He did a good job of stepping up and really running and
07:21 getting those first downs, which made it a little bit more difficult.
07:25 Cuz we're playing man outside and trying to double some guys,
07:28 you gotta light box.
07:29 >> There are a lot of teams that were sluggish today.
07:32 How do you recover from that?
07:35 >> Yeah, I mean, it's very disappointing, obviously.
07:39 We gotta go back and regroup, look at ourselves in the mirror,
07:44 start right with me, and what can we do to get better?
07:48 And that's what we gotta do.
07:49 We start Big 12 play next week.
07:50 We know that we got an outstanding team coming in next week, Oklahoma.
07:53 They do a great job, and they're riding high right now and playing really well.
07:58 So we have to come in and have a great week.
08:01 There's no time to have a pity party and start feeling sorry for ourself.
08:04 I can tell you that.
08:05 We gotta come in tomorrow and get to work.
08:08 >> Is there any indication this week in practice that it's such a new team and
08:13 so many new guys that maybe believe in themselves a little too much after
08:17 the way the season's going?
08:18 >> Yeah, I don't know.
08:18 I thought we had a good week of practice.
08:20 I thought we really got after it.
08:21 I thought guys were focused, and we did some really good things.
08:27 This week in practice, I mean, there was a lot of intensity there.
08:29 We talked about the importance of this game all week.
08:33 Our guys knew what we were coming into.
08:35 And it's just we didn't play good enough to win.
08:39 It was the bottom line.
08:40 I mean, again, red zone, block field goal.
08:43 I mean, there's a couple things we can point to that we would have got to win.
08:46 It'd be a lot different right now.
08:47 >> Thank you, Coach.
08:48 >> All right, thanks, guys.
