00:00 I think I won it because I was the new guy in the conversation.
00:02 I had some family members send me the clip, so I'll take it.
00:07 I appreciate Kyle for awarding me with that, but
00:09 it was definitely giving a hard time around the building for that one.
00:12 >> [LAUGH] >> We thought White credited you for
00:17 picking up on the Vikings defensive play signals.
00:19 Is that something that you had an act for in your career of being able to do,
00:24 or is it something that was new for that game?
00:27 >> When it comes down to that, you're always trying to find tendencies of defense.
00:30 Just those in-game adjustments, you're trying to find those tendencies.
00:36 Sometimes it's a little different than others, but that was why,
00:39 like I said, after post-game, it was a chess match there in the first half.
00:42 Had some stall-out drives.
00:44 They did a very, very good job.
00:46 I mean, I can't credit Ryan Flores enough for how they were schemed up against us.
00:49 So yeah, it took us a little bit to adjust, but yeah,
00:52 you try and find every advantage possible to win.
00:54 >> How much did that help, do you think?
00:56 >> Quite a bit.
00:56 >> I mean, you keep doing that.
00:58 You're gonna have some folks from the government pulling you into one of those
01:01 dark vans with eyes in the suits and trying to do your job.
01:04 >> I know I'm in Tampa, but I'm a Texas Rangers fan,
01:06 not a Houston Astros fan, so we're not gonna change that.
01:08 >> Wow. >> [LAUGH]
01:09 >> We appreciate it.
01:11 >> Figure you talked about the stiff arm, and
01:13 then you had to run on to get the first down.
01:16 I know you can do it, but is there a part of you too that has to be really careful
01:22 about putting yourself in harm's way?
01:24 >> Absolutely, yeah, I think there was a run earlier that
01:30 just kind of a scramble on third down, not necessary, just get out of bounds.
01:34 Now it comes down to the third and shorts, things like that when the game's on the
01:37 line, different story, but there's definitely areas that I can get better.
01:40 But it's the first game, had the juices flowing, so yeah, nothing was the same.
01:45 >> Tom was just standing here, and he said that you're a great quarterback, but
01:48 with an offensive line that's an accountant.
01:50 >> [LAUGH] >> What are your thoughts on that, Steve?
01:53 >> I love football, I mean, it's the game of football, it's a physical game.
02:00 Always loved it, love contact, can't shy away from it,
02:03 I think that's how you get hurt.
02:04 But obviously, like I mentioned,
02:05 playing quarterback's a little bit different story.
02:07 So yeah, definitely wanna protect yourself, but
02:10 I just always wanna be a part of the guys.
02:13 There's something about that, just being involved,
02:14 showing them that I like to get down and dirty with them as well.
02:17 >> I know that you're still learning your teammates, so
02:19 there's only so much you can learn from them when you haven't played a regular
02:22 season game together.
02:23 So what were you able to learn about this group of guys from week one?
02:28 >> I mean, the motto for us is resilience right now.
02:32 Just didn't start pretty at all, we left so much on the bone.
02:35 And just being able to adapt, being resilient,
02:39 not hitting the panic button by any means.
02:41 Just continuing with the plan, staying with it,
02:44 not shying away from the run game at all.
02:46 It wasn't going well early, but we ended the ball,
02:49 ended the game with the ball in our hands, and that was very important.
02:51 That's a mentality, that's a mindset.
02:55 So resilient, tough mentality is what I learned about this group.
02:59 So hopefully we can continue growing and
03:01 just be better through four quarters as well.
03:03 >> Can you speak to the aggressiveness of the offense?
03:05 Like kinda as you mentioned, even when things weren't going your way,
03:08 things turned around in the second half.
03:10 Even the completion of Godwin to close it out, could have ran the ball, but
03:14 now you went for it to close it out.
03:17 >> Yeah, I mean, I think it's that nonstop mentality of doing whatever it takes to
03:20 win.
03:21 The headlines should read that Chris Godwin makes a great catch on third and
03:26 ten to close the game out.
03:27 But I mean, that guy was in the trenches blocking Harrison Smith over and
03:32 over again, and then makes the play up with his fingertips to close out the game.
03:35 So just, it's a mentality, like I said.
03:39 It's a tough mindset, and those guys that we're able to rely on late in the game
03:42 when they've been doing dirty work for a while, that they get rewarded.
03:45 And those guys are special for a reason.
03:48 >> You started three of 11 for like 12 yards, right?
03:50 It was tough. >> That's good stats, isn't it?
03:51 >> Yeah, it's not good.
03:53 But on top of, what I wanted to say is that in the past,
03:56 you may have forced some more stuff, right?
03:58 You may have done something that, let me try to rip this here or there.
04:02 Is that experience you've had allowed you to have the kind of patience and
04:06 resiliency that come to play in this game?
04:08 >> Yeah, I think between experience and
04:11 also just trusting the system that Dave's brought in, yeah, three of 11.
04:14 Talk about starting from the bottom right there.
04:17 Just continuing to push forward and trust the system, not force it.
04:20 Let the game come to us, knowing how good our defense was playing as well.
04:24 Don't make mistakes, let the game come, and good things will happen.
04:27 So just trust, and that's a big factor for our offense.
04:30 If we're gonna be a great team, we have to trust the other side of the ball.
04:33 Sometimes punting the ball's not bad.
04:34 So in the ball, in a series with the ball in our hands,
04:37 whether it's a touchdown, kick, or punt, is always good for us.
