00:00 >> How was it going into the show?
00:02 >> I was fine.
00:04 Wait, first I wanna start off, I think I gotta, you know what I'm saying?
00:07 I'm giving him all the glory, all the honor, all the praise.
00:11 Because without him I wouldn't be here nor do anything.
00:15 So I don't wanna think about it.
00:17 But I was fine.
00:18 And I say that to say that I've always had a relationship with him.
00:22 But through these times that I've been going through, he's shown me a lot.
00:27 You know what I'm saying, he talks to me.
00:31 He's gotten me through a lot and I feel like he's really,
00:35 he really developed my mental in a way where I can deal with what I want.
00:39 >> When you say these times, what are you specifically referring to?
00:42 >> Negotiations.
00:44 It's a business at the end of the day.
00:47 I don't really feel comfortable getting into any specifics, but
00:52 I look to him for guidance and strength and
00:55 through those times, so- >> Did it even get to the point where you
01:00 thought maybe you wouldn't play?
01:03 I mean- >> What's up?
01:05 >> Did it even get to the point in these last few days where you might not have
01:10 played?
01:10 >> Yeah. >> Is that a decision?
01:11 >> Yeah, it got to that point.
01:13 >> And what was it that swayed you this way?
01:17 >> My feeling.
01:18 Like I said, I spend a lot of time with myself.
01:21 I cut off the world for one point a minute.
01:23 And I had some great advice from a friend, Justin Houston,
01:27 gave me some great advice.
01:29 And that was his advice one time, just cut off the world fast and
01:33 talk to God, so that's what I did and I played.
01:36 >> Brian, do you feel like today was a, like you had something to prove in this
01:39 particular game?
01:40 Did you just approach it like you do every other game?
01:42 >> Nope, I don't feel like I had anything to prove.
01:44 I feel like I've done what I needed to do and I'm just being consistent.
01:49 I've just taken the next step in my game and I wanna dominate.
01:53 So coming down that first quarter, first half, whatever,
01:57 that's all that was on my mind was dominating.
01:59 And I just gotta make sure I don't fizzle out when they change their game plan.
02:03 >> Brian, you seem a lot more reflective than you usually are.
02:07 How tough has this week been as a whole?
02:10 >> I've been reading.
02:11 >> What have you been reading?
02:13 >> I got a little book, Common Life, it's a daily challenge.
02:17 It gives you a message every day.
02:19 I've been reading that, I've been praying a lot.
02:21 You know what I'm saying?
02:22 At a certain point in time, I feel like as a man, you go through some challenges.
02:27 And like I said, my relationship with God just got stronger.
02:31 And I wanna continue that.
02:33 I hate that it took this long for me to really get into it, but I'm trying.
02:39 >> Brian, how disappointing that nothing- >> I'm sorry if I smell like cigar smoke.
02:44 I always do my family.
02:46 >> How disappointing nothing got done before the season?
02:50 And will you guys continue to negotiate during the season?
02:54 >> Like I said, no specifics.
02:56 I don't really wanna get into that.
02:58 Like I said, my relationship with God, wherever it may fall,
03:03 whatever happens, happens.
03:05 Just know I'm taking everything on.
03:07 >> But that terror you went on at the beginning of the game, I mean,
03:10 it seems different.
03:12 >> That's him, everything came my way.
03:14 He gave me the opportunities and I capitalized the best I could.
03:17 That's him.
03:18 I give him the things, I give him the break.
03:20 >> What did you think of Frank Reich's message to you guys after a tough loss
03:23 today?
03:24 >> It was great.
03:25 And it was a great message.
03:26 And I kind of piggybacked off it and told him,
03:29 like the game that just happened to us, change your mindset.
03:32 Don't let it happen to us, let it happen for us.
03:34 So you know, things may happen in life.
03:36 And if you change your mindset and not let it happen to you, happen for you,
03:40 you get a better result.
03:42 >> Frank, even throughout the week, I mean,
03:44 you have been in the midst of obviously contract negotiations.
03:46 To have your team and still vote you a leader of this team in the midst of what
03:50 you're going through, what did that mean now?
03:53 >> It means a lot.
03:54 It means that they got my back.
03:56 It means that they got my back and as a leader, I try to show them that I got
04:02 theirs and that was one of the main reasons why I came to camp and did everything.
04:05 Is to more importantly show them that I got them, you know what I'm saying?
04:10 Even though I'm going through what I'm going through,
04:13 things may not align right now.
04:15 Just letting them know I got them, I got their back and they reciprocated it.
04:18 >> How committed are you to play the entire season regardless of whether you
04:21 get a contract or not?
04:22 >> What's up?
04:23 >> How committed are you to play the entire season,
04:26 whether you get a contract or not?
04:28 >> I'm playing.
04:29 I'm playing, you know what I'm saying?
04:30 God got his hands on me, he's gonna protect me.
04:32 I'm playing.
04:34 >> Brian. >> Just a message to a guy like
04:35 Bryce who just really hard on himself and just about his performance today.
04:40 >> He's gonna be hard on himself.
04:42 That's what great players do, you know what I'm saying?
04:43 I don't watch Bryce throughout camp.
04:46 I watch him how he handles himself with the media, with everything.
04:50 I think he's a very poised and intelligent kid.
04:52 It's funny I keep saying kid, I'm not trying to break somebody.
04:55 But anyway, I think he's poised and intelligent and he's not gonna play like
05:00 that again, you feel what I'm saying?
05:01 I understand that he's beating himself up like we all would, you know what I'm
05:03 saying, when you're the man of greatness like yourself.
05:05 But trust me, I know that's a problem.
05:08 >> Brian, you mentioned, I think,
05:10 that they kind of made some adjustments later on in the game.
05:13 >> Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
05:17 During the first quarter, first half, whatever,
05:20 they were doing a lot of somewhat of a drop back.
05:23 They were trying to let Redder get the ball out at a certain point in time.
05:28 They weren't chipping.
05:29 But once the guy gets got a decent lead,
05:33 started to turn this up and run the ball more screens.
05:35 He wasn't really going downfields.
05:36 I didn't have a lot of time.
05:38 So I just had to figure out a way to impact that game.
05:40 It was quick, fast screens and runs and boots.
05:43 >> So it seemed like some of the two were coming underneath you when you'd go
05:47 upfield.
05:48 >> Say that again?
05:48 >> It looked like some of those quick ones you referenced,
05:52 they were throwing on your side after you'd come upfield.
05:56 >> Yeah, they'll put somebody in the C area to mess with my alignment.
05:59 That'll put me extra wide, open up that window.
06:01 So I just have to recognize the timing of it and
06:07 adjust as I see fit.
06:09 So that'll happen on the back of the drawing board.
06:12 We'll get there.
06:12 >> Brian, can you take me through the strip sack at the first drive of the game?
06:20 What'd you see and how'd you get out of it?
06:23 >> Third and long, only thing in my mind was to burn the edge.
06:26 I got a chop tip, got into the rip.
06:30 And as I was coming around, Redder started to step up.
06:33 I got long arms, God bless me with, you know what I'm saying?
06:36 So, stuck my arm out there, knocked the ball out.
06:39 It's one of the easiest sacks in the game when you got a tackle in the back.
06:42 >> Was it emotional, cathartic for you when you got that sack?
06:47 I mean, considering everything's going on,
06:49 the defense seemed to really rally around it.
06:52 >> Yeah, a bit, it was.
06:53 Like I said, it's been some time.
06:57 It's been a time.
06:58 That was raw emotion.
07:02 Even the second one was raw emotion.
07:04 And I can see I didn't get the balls of it, so raw emotion.
07:07 And now that I got it out of my system, it's down to balls.
07:11 >> Has it been a time because you feel undervalued?
07:14 >> I'm not getting into any specifics.
07:15 >> This isn't necessarily your specific, but
07:19 I'm curious what the Bosa deal, how that impacted things.
07:23 >> How did it impact things?
07:25 Is that specifics?
07:26 >> [LAUGH] >> I'd rather not get into it.
07:28 >> At a time like this, I'd rather not talk about it.
07:34 Maybe a little down the line, I'll open up a little bit more, but as of right now,
07:37 you know, no.
07:39 >> But on Monday, when you were not, they called it personal matter, and
07:42 they did the last Thursday, called it personal matter.
07:44 I mean, obviously it was due to contract, but
07:46 what's kinda going through your mind at that point?
07:49 Was there anything that you thought?
07:50 >> [LAUGH] >> My God.
07:55 >> I just have a question.
07:58 How do you separate the two, the business and-
08:00 >> Just understanding it.
08:03 Just understanding how things work.
08:06 Like this was my first rodeo, but still I know business is business.
08:09 And you gotta leave your emotions at the door.
08:11 So every time I came in, I tried my best to leave my emotions outside,
08:15 leave it in my car.
08:16 You know what I'm saying?
08:17 Coming in with a clear mind, and business is business.
08:21 Habits, habits.
08:22 >> Everybody understand what you said, Brian, on the set?
08:25 Did you say you didn't do a celebration or something?
08:27 Or what did, I couldn't hear.
08:30 >> He didn't do a celebration.
08:31 >> I didn't do a celebration.
08:31 >> I was a spider man because of- >> I was pretty much a yellow.
08:33 >> [LAUGH] >> I got filled with raw emotions.
08:36 >> And that was one.
08:36 >> It just came up, you know what I mean?
08:38 >> Yeah.
08:38 >> It is what it is.
08:40 I left some crumbs out there, though, I gotta clean up.
08:42 But, all right.
08:43 >> [LAUGH] >> You don't have any more questions,
08:46 Brian?
08:47 Good.
08:48 >> Thanks, Brian. >> Thank you, Brian.
