31:37 with her, but she's still likable.

31:58 And I think the juxtaposition of their personalities

32:06 is like they all have chemistry.
32:08 And I thought that this was a genuine swashbuckling,
32:13 fun time with a great spirit to it throughout.
32:16 And I don't wanna speak too long
32:18 'cause we got more episodes to get through,
32:19 but I thought this was a really solid start.
32:23 I was pleasantly surprised and could perhaps be,
32:26 shape up to be the best live action adaptation of anatomy,
32:31 depending on--
32:33 - The series, yeah, I think so.
32:35 - Series or, I mean, there aren't many
32:37 really good movies out there, but you know.
32:39 - Are there any?
32:39 I can't think of any at the moment.
32:40 - Oh, "Lita's Got a Lot of Love."

32:43 - But this was a really smooth experience
32:46 with like great action and colors and everything about it.
32:49 I really enjoyed a lot.
32:51 - Yeah, no, I thought the music was really good.
32:52 All the action was really great.
32:55 Definitely has the spirit of an anime.
32:56 I'm not sure how accurate it is to the anime itself,
32:59 but it definitely feels reminiscent of that.
33:01 And it's interesting seeing all the pieces,
33:05 even though we haven't seen the show,
33:06 the pieces of people that are either like background people
33:10 created for the show, or like,
33:11 "Oh, this is definitely inspired
33:12 and looks exactly like an anime character."
33:14 So I really liked all of those elements of it.
33:17 And yeah, I like the way it's shaping up.
33:18 It has that classic feel,
33:20 even though I think the anime is like, what?
33:21 Something like 20 years old.
33:23 - Oh, is it? Okay.
33:24 - Something like that, yeah.
33:24 It's a thousand episodes, you'd think, you know.
33:27 But yeah, I think it really-

34:03 How do they eventually accept to be a crew?
34:05 Does the crew get larger?

34:07 I think there's a lot of questions to be had here,

35:21 I'm thinking of like a Gon from Hunter x Hunter.
35:24 You know, there's a lot of these different elements
35:26 of that kind of anime lead character
35:28 who is like super optimistic, very jovial, and--
35:33 - Like a Goku.
35:34 - And yeah, yeah, exactly, and then is kind of like a--
35:37 - Is a Naruto like that?
35:38 - Yeah, like an inspiration wherever he goes in some way.
35:42 But even when you see,
35:43 I think the introduction of him is so well done
35:45 where he does seem like the kind of guy,
35:49 you get that kind of Jack Sparrow quality
35:51 where you're like, "Huh, this guy's a loser."
35:54 He just thinks he's capable,
35:56 and then you see through his actions
35:59 that even though a lot of times
36:01 his introduction upon scenes,
36:03 you see the perception that other people
36:05 would instantly have of him,
36:07 like clumsy idiot or something like that.
36:10 - A fool.
36:11 - A fool, yes.
36:12 Fool!
36:13 - Akiyoro, Konyoro.
36:15 - A bit of a fool.
36:16 - But when you actually see him in action,
36:18 you're like, "Oh, he surprises people."
36:20 He surprises you, so you see the reactions to people.
36:23 And I also think the way this unintentional crew
36:26 came to be by the end felt very natural.
36:29 And then the other guy, Zoro,
36:32 I love that kind of badass, stoic, dry delivery.
36:35 What I think's really cool about the performances too
36:39 is that there's this specific kind of pitch
36:41 that they're hitting where they do harken
36:46 to that of like they've brought
36:50 a live-action anime character to life
36:52 with their kind of delivery,
36:55 the kind of voice they have and whatnot,
36:57 and the cadence in their voice, the tone,
37:00 just the overall tenure of their voice,
37:01 I think is really, really much like it,
37:04 but it still feels believable.
37:07 - Yeah, it still works.
37:09 It could go wrong very easily,
37:11 but somehow they found a way to balance it,
37:13 a way to make it feel accessible and translate well
37:17 to a live-action piece that makes it endearing.
37:20 - And specifically of translating,
37:24 I don't feel left out one bit.
37:26 - No.
37:27 - There's not anything here.
37:28 I'm sure that there'll be like breakdown videos
37:31 and people who've watched the anime before
37:34 are noticing little things
37:36 and are able to predict stuff of what's to come or whatever.
37:39 - Make sure the hardcore fans are gonna nitpick
37:41 the shit out of it.
37:42 - Yeah, or they might be able to get even more from it,
37:44 you know, because they're noticing little nuances
37:47 that we aren't really picking up on,
37:50 but I don't feel left out.
37:53 - No, no, they've struck that balance of,
37:56 even though we haven't seen the anime,
37:57 something that, things that we can recognize
38:00 from taking in a lot of pop culture media
38:02 and recognizing Easter eggs, you're like,
38:04 oh, that's probably Easter egg for the fans,
38:05 but those are things we're gonna get to later,
38:07 and because this is starting as a show
38:10 that's introducing you as if you've never seen the anime,
38:13 it feels like a thing that can be enjoyed
38:16 by both new and old audiences as well, which--
38:19 - I love that.
38:20 - Yeah.
38:21 - That's like the exact blend you wanna hit.
38:23 - Exactly.
38:24 - Assuming anime fans like us.

38:33 like how we watch Invincible, you know,
38:35 they do that thing where Robert Kirkman
38:36 was able to create that entire show
38:39 or create that entire comic and then go back from stage one
38:42 and then kind of took the knowledge he knows
38:44 from the end of it and apply that to the beginning,
38:47 I hope they can do that with this show,
38:48 even though I don't know where the anime's going,
38:50 I hope that they found a way to,
38:52 'cause there's a thousand plus episodes,
38:53 to streamline--

39:13 But yeah, I hope that they're able to maximize
39:18 the experience and give us details of the show,
39:21 maybe the people who watch the anime didn't necessarily have,
39:24 even though we'd be none the wiser
39:26 'cause we haven't seen the anime,
39:27 but I just hope that this is going to maximize
39:32 on the experience of what the show
39:36 of a one piece season one can be.

39:39 And I love the composition of the directing as well.
39:42 A lot of the shots, the framework of them feel
39:46 like I'm looking at a drawing a lot of the time.
39:48 And--
39:49 - The sets are great too.
39:50 - Sets are great, they feel very lived in.
39:52 And I feel like a lot of times with a show like this,
39:54 they get really caught up in production value
39:56 and that tends to be the main star,
39:59 where I still feel like, no,
40:00 the characters are the star of this.
40:02 - Yeah, 100%.
40:03 - And I really, really enjoy that.
40:05 Like to me, honestly,
40:07 this could have just been a very surface level experience,
40:09 but I found the energy of this very contagious.
40:13 And then even as someone who hasn't seen the anime,
40:15 by the time you see the three of them standing next
40:18 to each other, I was like, "Hell yeah, let's go."
40:21 Yeah, it was a catharsis experience, even on our end,
40:24 that I didn't anticipate walking away from.
40:29 - Yeah, I really enjoyed this a lot
40:32 and I hope the rest of the season plays out.
40:34 This is a very strong pilot.
