Two new signings looking for a way in.
Transcript
00:00 And two other signings, Glenn Kamara and Leo Gruev, I mean, where do they fit in given the impressive starts from Ethan Ampadu and Archie Gray in that midfield?
00:10 Yeah, it's a good question that. I mean, it's a difficult one because I think you look at the Leeds midfield and you almost centre midfield and you almost think, well, it's kind of fine as it is really.
00:19 But I mean, you can't just rely on two players for the rest of the season, and Ethan Ampadu and Archie Gray, especially when one of them is only 17 years old and basically, you know, like the age that he is at that.
00:29 So they had to bring other midfielders in and they've done the right thing by getting two of those in.
00:33 But now it's a real puzzle in terms of what do you do?
00:36 I think of the two of them, I think Glenn Kamara is the one that would instantly like sort of scream starter to me.
00:41 You know, like, I mean, the amount of games he's played for Rangers, the experience he's got at a high level and not just sort of like at Rangers, but in European competition with them as well.
00:48 I can't see him being a player that really comes here to sit on the bench.
00:51 So I would sort of expect him to start, you know, once he gets his fitness up week in, week out, assuming all goes well.
00:57 And Ethan Ampadu has been, you know, lots of rock solid acquisition, really.
01:00 So a very, very cool and calm and composed, like obviously leads like to be patient and have possession.
01:05 And he's, you know, almost a mainstay of that. He often starts most moves and looks up and picks out very good balls as well.
01:11 So my gut instinct would be those two.
01:14 And you sort of say, where does that leave Archie Gray?
01:16 Well, where it leaves Archie Gray is as a seriously, seriously talented young player.
01:20 But in an ideal world, he's one you probably give a bit of time to, you know.
01:23 So, but that said, he has, I think even in these opening games, probably look just about leads his best player.
01:29 So then you sort of start asking yourself, well, are you doing the right thing?
01:32 You know, putting him on the bench just to sort of like build him in gradually and protect him, so to speak.
01:36 So fascinating to see how it happens. Ilya Gruev as well, I'm sure will be a very good signing.
01:39 I think he's almost like not the forgotten man of the midfield, but, you know, he's the one obviously, the ones will be talked about more, I suppose.
01:45 But he's a Bulgarian international. I think he'll be a very good player as well.
01:48 He'll probably maybe be a bit slightly deeper, so maybe like an alternative for Ampadu, I would think maybe.
01:53 But, my news, we've got four very good midfielders there.
01:56 And the other thing you should remember with Archie Gray is that we saw him play at number 10 in the League Cup game.
02:00 And that's a definite option, I think. So you might end up having some games where you have Gray at 10 and then two of the other three in behind you.
02:05 So good problems to have, though. And, you know, you definitely want this situation as opposed to looking at it thinking, well, we've only got two midfielders.
02:11 And if something happens to them, then we're, you know, really in trouble.
02:14 So, yeah, interesting to see how it plays out. But, yeah, I think patience with Archie, I think that's what's needed.
02:19 He's only a young lad, remember, but a huge, huge talent.
