00:00 Over 100 individuals are left with no homes after eight residential structures collapsed
00:06 in Valenzuela City.
00:08 The apartments are located inside the property of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines
00:13 at the boundary of Barangay Mapulanglupa and Barangay Ugong.
00:17 The city's building official says persistent rains brought by the southwest monsoon had
00:22 softened the soil.
00:23 "Based on our initial assessment, the soil was saturated, which created pressure and
00:32 pushed the wall.
00:34 Part of the structure has collapsed already.
00:36 So it's not already fit for human occupancy and use."
00:42 Residents fear that they may not be able to go back.
00:45 That is why they appeal for relocation.
00:46 "I was traumatized because I left my child in the street.
00:49 It's a good thing that someone came down.
00:54 I hope we can be given help because we are living in a building.
01:01 We don't have a place to live."
01:04 "Relocate?
01:05 It's better because we have a place to live.
01:09 It's more stable."
01:11 The city's social welfare development provided aid to the victims, such as food packs and
01:16 comfort and hygiene kits.
01:18 The evacuees will stay at the Ugong Old Barangay Hall and the Mapulanglupa 3S Center.
01:24 Mayor Vas Gachalyan visited the evacuation centers.
01:28 He says financial assistance will be provided to the evacuees.
01:31 "We have been monitoring this place for almost a decade.
01:40 It's underneath the transmission line so they shouldn't be living there."
01:45 "There's a probability that they won't be able to go back.
01:47 That's why we will have to discuss tomorrow if the financial assistance is really for
01:53 them, for renting."
01:55 The local government will conduct aerial and on-site surveys to determine whether surrounding
02:00 areas are still safe or if more people would need to leave their homes.
