00:00 The Beatles got his eyes on the skies. Here's a look at McFarlane Toys Blue
00:04 Beetle movie Blue Beetle Battle Mode.

00:13 [Rattling]
00:36 The first in his family to graduate college Jamie Reyes harbors dreams of law
00:40 school but instead is conflicted in the face of threats to his home and
00:44 misfortunes befalling his family. When he becomes symbiotically connected to an
00:48 ancient alien biotechnology Jamie is bestowed with all mighty but
00:51 unpredictable powers leading him to fulfill his destiny and become the new
00:55 generation of superhero Blue Beetle. First before we begin I'd like to once
01:00 again thank the folks over at McFarlane Toys that did provide the sample of the
01:04 new DC multiverse Blue Beetle movie Battle Mode Blue Beetle that we can have
01:08 the chance to have a look at this review. Grabbing of course as we always do the
01:11 tape measure to see how tall the figure stands. He will be of course the same
01:14 figure as before if you didn't already know that and because of that of course
01:17 he's gonna stand the same. This figure is about six and three-quarters of an inch
01:21 in height or he's about 17 centimeters tall. Short of just a bit of retooling
01:27 they did on the back of his body it seems to be though the same figure as
01:30 the other Blue Beetle that we've already had a look at. I have already taken the
01:33 luxury of adding the blaster on the end of his forearm but that's also something
01:37 that is on this figure as well. Other than again like the changing of the
01:41 backpacks which I'll show of course in a second it looks to be the exact same
01:45 figure from one to the other. Granted the Battle Mode version of Blue Beetle does
01:50 get gifted a few extra things that weren't packaged with the original Blue
01:53 Beetle. Before of course we get to those new things here let's look to the some
01:57 of the old things here. Maybe not necessarily old as it's not the same
02:01 trading card as the one that we already got released but it does seem a very
02:04 similar style. This in a way kind of reminds me of an app based video game
02:08 for superheroes something you'd be playing around on your phone like if you
02:12 were to have several these superheroes you could pick your own form your own
02:14 team kind of looks like the kind of style that they went with here. While no
02:18 not taking it necessarily from us still in the movie which is one thing I really
02:22 wish that these cards could have had instead they are nicely designed
02:26 character cards of course featuring down below here Blue Beetle as just regular
02:30 Blue Beetle here and Blue Beetle of course regular Blue Beetle there as well.
02:33 The backs of the cards do also have the exact same read up so if you were hoping
02:37 from something different from this to this you're gonna be a little
02:40 disappointed. The real name of course Jimmy Ray's and the paragraph read as
02:44 chunky as it may be is exactly the same from this one to this one here. Still
02:48 though I'll be putting these along with the rest of my trading cards in my
02:51 trading card sheets. Moving then on to the other same Z the figure comes in
02:55 clue with once again the same black displaced end with the same yes just a
02:58 DC logo branded down below. Nothing's changed in this department just to bring
03:02 back in not that it really matters the one that came in clue with the original
03:05 Blue Beetle you can see that they're exactly the same. What is though different
03:09 though is the wings that for example that he comes included with not to
03:12 mention some hands. The original Blue Beetle didn't come included with any
03:15 other hands then obviously the blaster hand that would have then replaced the
03:19 forearm. This time around other than the already mentioned or already will be
03:23 showing you the closed fist the figure also comes in clue with a thumbs up hand
03:27 he also comes included with a pointing hand he also comes included with a peace
03:31 sign hand if I can actually hold it properly and he also comes with a
03:35 gestured hand as well. I'm sure the question many of you probably will be
03:39 asking now right now is to bring back in the original Blue Beetle does then the
03:42 hands work well of course being that's the same figure the answer is yes you
03:46 can if you want to for example pop the hand off and just replace it with one of
03:49 the hands that come include the battle mode Blue Beetle and if you wanted to
03:53 have for example oh that's the wrong hand let's grab the right hand if you
03:57 wanted to though it's simply just a case of popping out the replacement hand and
04:01 popping then the new hand in that comes included so if for example you wanted
04:05 this Blue Beetle to come with a pointing hand simply just rip the ones away from
04:09 the one that comes include the battle mode and you can have the figure
04:11 displayed that way as well. I'm gonna keep this just to the side because I know
04:15 I'm gonna be bringing that the guy back in in a second. The figure also being
04:19 that he's a battle mode version also comes included with his beetle wings. I
04:22 really like the look of these first of all it seems that they're using like a
04:25 translucent clear plastic now before you say hey wait that's blue plastic no it
04:30 looks to be the case that they're actually using clear see-through
04:32 plastic judging by of course the fact my hands waving behind it but it does then
04:36 look like they've added a paint wash like they've washed across the surface
04:40 of it kind of a lighter blue it does really look good though he has of course
04:43 the metallic frame here that has the antenna on the top these will attach
04:47 though onto the back of the figures body and of course he does have being of
04:50 course a pair of wings he has two wings of opposite sides to attach them onto
04:54 the figure though flip the round to the back and you'll see of course the big
04:58 backpack beetle backpack that he has this is why I said if you look at the
05:02 original one the original would have had it simply just molded onto the torso
05:05 this one has a little bit of a lift lift and you can see right on the side here
05:10 there's these two little circular pieces well of course what you will want to do
05:14 it takes a little bit of prying literally and figuratively but you will
05:17 want to just pry the backpack right off the back put the figure down here for
05:21 one second hoping that he's gonna stand properly and of course we're gonna be
05:25 taking ourselves the wings and if you look on the back of it these little
05:28 spools of plastic what you'll do of course you want to make sure that they
05:31 are facing the right way take the wings and with these little ringlets here
05:35 you're gonna fit them over top of the plastic just like that push them far
05:39 enough back there as well and do the exact same thing on the other side just
05:43 fit those in place and then once those are in place you're gonna take this
05:47 larger peg and this little notch of plastic here and then you're gonna fit
05:51 it on back onto the figure's body now you probably could push this further in
05:55 than what I'm doing right now I like to have it just enough that it's sitting on
05:58 the back of the figures body but then if I wanted to it's easy to remove it again
06:01 because like I said the first time I did take this guy that is packaging it was a
06:05 real hard time for me to actually try to take this part off I had to take a
06:09 little screwdriver just pry the bottom of it till finally it gave way as a side
06:13 note though doesn't it look like it has a little face with a little mouse
06:16 smiling down below here okay the wings by the way though being the way that
06:20 they attach do have a little bit of posability you can move them up and down
06:23 but not by much though you can see that it doesn't really have a whole lot of
06:26 clearance to work with but it does look good though and it does differentiate of
06:31 course make them a lot different than the other blue beetle because if not for
06:33 that it's essentially the exact same figure one right down to a detail that
06:38 this figure also has if I can just get the I'm gonna take this off for right
06:41 now the figure has also the exact same forearm piece remember that other figure
06:46 that we had a look at the blue beetle and I couldn't figure out where that arm
06:49 blaster was supposed to go well you can in fact use then this blaster and use it
06:54 then on this figure here some would then be probably asking well if that's the
06:57 case and it's essentially the same figure with just a now upgrade to his
07:01 backpack would you just want to get the one figure instead you could but then
07:05 think of it this way if you didn't already have this blue beetle you
07:08 wouldn't already have then this blaster you wouldn't have all the accessories
07:11 that went along with that version of blue beetle so you really would be able
07:14 to use those accessories anyways you'll still want to get both so again like
07:18 let's go ahead and just pop the forum back in place I guess if I wanted to
07:21 show you guys let's just pop the cannon arm off the other blue beetle and we'll
07:25 just pop it back onto this figure just more just to show you guys that it does
07:29 it is the exact same figure other than just a retooled backpack so if you
07:33 really wanted to you could use the blaster then for the other one and this
07:37 simply attach it onto this one then use of course the backpack and plug
07:40 everything in place and then you have a really battle armored blue beetle I like
07:44 that what I'll do though for right now at least let's put the forum back in
07:49 place and maybe what I'll also do as well as I'll just take the backpack off
07:53 for right now one last time just to show you guys the stellar sculpt and work the
07:57 team the team at McFarlane has really done to sculpting this figure it does
08:00 look really quite good let's just take this off for right now the only thing
08:04 about the figure though is kind of a point I mentioned earlier when we had a
08:07 look at this one - of course let's just get his blaster back in place the use of
08:12 the blue looks great no complaints no faults there the thing though about it
08:16 though is when you're looking at the rest of the figures body one of the
08:17 thing I did mention about this one is with the additional silver wash that
08:22 they've added to the plastic and already being a lighter gray to start off with
08:25 it doesn't really give overlooking of course the missing backpack it doesn't
08:29 really give the chance for the blue I feel the shine if the black if the black
08:32 was only darker black and not the silver that we get here I feel like the blue
08:36 would have a much better opportunity to really showcase itself that aside though
08:40 both the head sculpts are exactly the same the bodies look and appear to be
08:44 the same as well as can be the same apply for all like the limbs like the
08:47 forearms the biceps the lower legs and lower feet all seem to be the exact same
08:51 shared between the two figures other than again the change of the backpack
08:55 that this one now has for the articulation on battle mode blue beetle
09:00 again we'll look quickly at his head sculpt I suppose before we actually do
09:03 that there's a little fiber let's just remove that paint for I guess before we
09:07 actually get down to the post Billy on the figure is stellar the blue looks
09:10 quite good on this one there's really no bleed that I'm seeing anywhere on the
09:13 figures body even like the yellow of his eyes with the interior white pupils are
09:17 all handled extremely well as well can also be said for the blue that they've
09:21 applied to the plastic the blue for a smaller some of the areas like for
09:25 example the legs that wrap around are all well handled by McFarlane's team
09:29 like I said for the post Billy on the figure is gonna be exactly the same as
09:32 the one before the head is gonna rotate of course all the way around on a ball
09:35 joint head looks up quite high so while the figure doesn't come in clue with the
09:39 say a flight stand if you had one such available I'm probably have like three
09:43 or four of them still kicking around I probably end up will end up probably
09:46 using a flight stand and display blue beetle with the wings in a flight pose
09:50 with at least the head being able to high look high enough up so it looks
09:54 like you actually see what's in front of him head does look down also as well
09:58 that far you can also rock the head back and forth as well upper torso is on a
10:03 ball joint and a one touch I already mentioned with the other blue beetle is
10:05 I like that the little legs here this leg the ones on the top are attached to
10:10 the torso the ones though to the bottom are separate and it carries over nicely
10:15 to then the lower abdomen area where it kind of in a way hides the articulation
10:20 point smarter in their part upper torso is on a ball joint lower torso is also
10:24 on a ball joint and like the lower trunks if you will are also softer
10:29 plastic so it hides not only the joint but I keep always doing these in this
10:32 review that like the trunks fit fairly nicely to the rest of the legs and the
10:37 torso somewhat seamless there's still obviously a little gap on the top there
10:41 but somewhat of a seamless look of shape so it doesn't look like the figures got
10:45 a quote figure diaper legs go forward on the figure the legs go obviously back
10:50 you can't split the legs there on ratcheted joints swivel at the top of
10:53 the thigh there's a double hinge on the knee and of course all the still
10:57 articulation points here for the ankle they move not only up and down this way
11:00 rocking back and forth this way but the figure also has toe articulation still
11:05 the same ongoing problem I have you can see like there's a little if you look at
11:09 the feet first of all they sort of sink inward see that and they're not
11:13 completely flat and then of course you also add these little extra lips on
11:16 either side of it whether that's screen accurate or not does cause a little more
11:20 problems when it comes to blue beetles standing so of course make use of that
11:23 display stand going back though to the shoulders because I know normally we
11:26 look at the shoulders and we look at them the torso going to go back to the
11:29 shoulders once again these shoulder pads are a softer plastic where they've
11:34 attached them is right here which is good until you start to move the arm up
11:38 and you'll sort of see the way that they court of sort of accordion themselves
11:42 and sort of start to fold themselves inward and that's probably gonna be
11:45 damaging that plastic so you can only really because of that bring the arms
11:48 out about 45 degrees you can take the arms as well and rotate them all the way
11:52 around there's a bicep swivel there's of course the double hinge on the elbow and
11:56 the hands rotate also all the way around it's all in all like it's a good-looking
12:00 figure there's really hasn't been changes much made for this figure that
12:04 wasn't already there on the original blue beetle other than just again like
12:07 the backpack but again like the sell of this is the fact that not only are you
12:10 getting the backpack but then as well if you happen to have yourself both blue
12:14 beetles you can kind of mix and match the component pieces nothing is
12:18 necessarily saying that you have to keep all the accessories that say came in
12:21 with the original blue beetle you have to keep them on the figure no way no how
12:25 no absolutely not if you wanted to you could mix and match and rotate the parts
12:30 around like for example if you wanted to have the cannon arm say on this figure
12:33 you could do that because of course it's using the same component pieces and you
12:36 then could use the gestured hands that were included with this figure you could
12:40 use the ones that came included with the battle mode at the end of the day while
12:42 it's still being the same figure they've done enough changes it so I think
12:46 justify picking up more than just the one sure I think it would have been nice
12:50 if the figure had included a flight stand but with considering all the other
12:55 accessories that Jamie Reyes does come included with anyways the wings the
12:58 additional hands for example well we may not necessarily have some weapons to
13:02 wield like the original blue beetle I think there's still enough that gets
13:05 packaged along with him that you can see that the plastic went somewhere it's not
13:10 a case where you're just getting a figure with only just a couple of
13:12 interchangeable hands and just the flat black display stand no you can see like
13:16 the plastic the resources went enough to enough places that can be at least
13:20 justified as to why the figure didn't come include with a flight stand for me
13:24 of course when it comes to displaying the figure I'm gonna probably put him on
13:26 the shelf very similar to the way I've got him right now looking as if he's
13:29 about to leap off and fly into the sky yes while he is still essentially using
13:34 the same body as the other blue beetle we looked at before I really did like
13:38 the mold anyways then maybe just the silver is the one thing that's a bit of
13:41 a detractor for me that I wish like the colors for the silver were a little bit
13:44 more darker but other than that I really like the way that this one did turn out
13:48 and for me of course if the figure is gonna be having the wings and all I will
13:51 want to display the figure with wings and all the wings aren't as poseable
13:55 necessarily but at least that they are removable so if you didn't always want
13:59 to have the wings for example on the tap attached onto the back of the figures
14:02 body simply just detach the backpack remove the wings and replace the
14:06 backpack where you found it all in all just a nice-looking figure if you're a
14:10 big fan of the new blue beetle movie whether you've seen the movie yet or
14:13 not yeah this is definitely one worth picking up and still I think worth
14:16 picking up even if you already have the other blue beetle in your collection big
14:20 thank you once again to the folks over at McFarland toys that did provide the
14:23 sample of the blue beetle battle mode that we had the chance to have a look at
