00:00 Former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob believes that the next generation of leaders

00:06 in the country has the ability to strengthen unity.

00:10 In an opinion piece published in Utusan Malaysia in conjunction with Merdeka, Ismail expressed

00:15 concern about the "worrying use of inflammatory racial rhetoric by government and opposition

00:20 leaders during the recently concluded state elections."

00:24 However, he noted that the country entered a new political phase in the last general election

00:30 with many young MPs being elected, adding that they seem to be more open-minded about

00:35 racial unity.

00:37 Ismail said that he hopes the new generation of leaders, especially politicians, can play

00:42 an important role in racial unity which was started by the first Prime Minister Tuguh

00:46 Abdul Rahman and other Merdeka figures.

00:50 Ismail also called for greater emphasis on the Rukun Agarra as a guide to strengthening

00:54 national unity, stating that it can help raise awareness of the country's pluralism and

00:58 diversity.
