00:00 The former mayor of Johor Bahru pleaded not guilty to 12 counts of accepting bribes amounting
00:07 to 1.55 million ringgit between 2020 and 2021.
00:13 Adib Azhari Daud, 63, is alleged to have received money as a reward for helping two men secure
00:19 various projects in the Johor Bahru City Council area through another individual.
00:26 The payments were alleged to have been made in 12 transactions of between 10,000 ringgit
00:30 and 250,000 ringgit each.
00:34 Some of the projects included annual roadside landscape maintenance work, annual maintenance
00:39 work for pruning trees, and maintenance work for the centralised sewage treatment plant.
00:45 The charges were framed under Section 16(a)(b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission
00:50 Act 2009.
00:52 Upon conviction, the defendant could face a prison sentence of not more than 20 years
00:57 and a fine not less than five times the value of the bribe or 10,000 ringgit, whichever
01:03 is higher.
01:05 Judge Siti Norai Dasulaiman allowed Adib bail of 120,000 ringgit for all the charges in
01:11 two sureties.
