Transcript
00:00 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has declared that Palawan Island is now insurgency-free.
00:07 This is what President Marcos' Angelique said in her visit earlier to National Peace Consciousness Month 2023 here in Puerto Princesa City.
00:20 This means that there are no rebels, communists or other groups that are disturbing the peace or order of Palawan Island because of the help of the National Government, LGU and other sectors of society.
00:33 The NTF-LCAC or National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict is also a big deal.
00:40 Many people have already returned to the government.
00:42 As Angelique of LGU said in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan Island has become insurgency-free because government services have been brought closer to people like health, education and other financial assistance.
00:56 Residents, police and soldiers are also being helped in the barangay.
01:00 The construction of various projects such as barangays is also ongoing.
01:06 Every Filipino should feel that the government is not the only one here.
01:13 Local communities, local government, police, soldiers and all sectors of society are here to support and improve their lives.
01:29 If we fulfill that promise, we will see that the talks will be easier and will lead to peace.
01:38 Angelique, while President Marcos is convinced that the government will continue to defend territorial sovereignty as territorial rights,
01:48 the approach or the direction of the Philippines has not changed.
01:52 The news has also been received that China has extended the 9-dash line to the 10-dash line.
01:59 President Marcos also believes in rules-based international law such as UNCLOS, which is in accordance with the claims of the Philippines on the territory.
02:08 We, of course, will continue to defend our territorial sovereignty, our territorial rights.
02:16 We have not changed our approach.
02:20 It is other countries around us that have changed their approach.
02:24 Now, once again, we received the news that now the 9-dash line has been extended to the 10-dash line.
02:36 So we have to respond to all of this and we will.
02:40 But again, these are operational details that I would prefer not to talk about.
02:49 And that's the news from Puerto Princesa City in the province of Palawan. Angelique.
02:54 Yes, Alan, in the past, if you remember, there were kidnappings of tourists in the islands of Palawan.
03:06 Are there no more such threats from extremists that could disrupt peace, especially those who visit Palawan?
03:17 Angelique, the fact that today, the government has declared Palawan Island as an insurgency-free area.
03:31 This means that the government is now in control or the people who are disturbing the order of the province are totally gone.
03:40 And the target, Angelique, of the government is to follow the entire Mimaropa region.
03:47 Because the province of Palawan, Angelique, is only a part of Region 4B or Mimaropa.
03:52 So this is the next target of the government to make it insurgency-free. Angelique.
03:57 Okay. Thank you very much, Alan Francisco.
