00:00 Storm surge wasn't the only problem in Cedar Key, Florida last night with Hurricane Adalia, even though it was the main issue.
00:08 But also big time winds, and they were damaging at times, gusting to over 80 miles an hour in the far southeastern quadrant of the hurricane.
00:15 But that wind was unimpeded coming off the Gulf of Mexico where there's not a lot of friction.
00:20 And that's how we had such gusty winds here right at Cedar Key, because it protrudes into the ocean.
00:25 And look at the damage here, the only gas station in Cedar Key, this is the only place that you could get gas leading up to the hurricane.
00:33 And now the gas station has largely been destroyed.
00:36 At least the awning got toppled over with one of the fueling units.
00:41 But the bridge in and out of Cedar Key is still closed, and that's for in and out traffic.
00:46 But we have heard that it is going to be open very shortly, and that there isn't too much damage to the road surface,
00:51 and that it should be safe and passable by this evening for people especially that want to get off the island.
00:58 But the cleanup has begun in Cedar Key.
01:00 A lot of damage out there, especially along the boardwalk, even though that is designed for a lot of that surge.
01:05 A 7 to 10 foot storm surge like that with waves on top and big time winds as well is just a recipe for big problems no matter where it happens.
